Although this exchange was posted late last year, it’s just now gone viral as it’s made its way to a number of aggregation sites.

Jeremy was at his local 7-11 when he noticed something unusual: a cop motorcycle illegally parked on the sidewalk. When he sees the cop exiting the store with just a big gulp in hand, Jeremy, out of curiosity, asked him if there was an emergency, since…y’know, illegal parking is only allowed provided there is an emergency of some variety.

When the cop answers negatively, Jeremy asks for his badge ID.

The exchange stays calm, with Jeremy knowing when to stop pushing the issue and to just walk away. But the fact remains that authoritative figures still have obligations to the public. As one commenter pointed out: I’m hopeful this is a sign future generations will keep questioning authority’s assumption that they are above the rules the rest of us live by.

What do you think? Was Jeremy just being a nuisance? Or should the cop have just provided his badge ID? At worst, he might have suffered a little slap on the wrist if this actually made it to his superiors.
