Some Cues:
• Body movements that start during the question or within 5 seconds after the question, especially in anchor points: feet, arms, bottom (if sitting)
• Attacking back, instead of simply answering the question
• Indirect answers. Example: “I wouldn’t do,” instead of “I didn’t do.”
• Embellishing, trying to sell us that they’re telling us the truth through extra information
• Hands to the face — When people are in fight-or-flight mode, the blood vessels will shrink in their fingers, which itches, so they’ll play with their nose, their ear, scratch their hands…
• Verbal-non-verbal disconnect. Example: shaking their heads ‘no’ while saying ‘yes’
• Dressing up the lie: Fixing hair, adjusting tie, looking at watch
