[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAjLIVISqRw]Gordon Lightfoot – Black Day In July (single edit)

Issued March 1968 on United Artists 50281.

Gordon Lightfoot recorded this song on his third United Artists album, “Did She Mention My Name” in 1968. It explores the riots in Detroit in July of 1967. It didn’t chart at all in the US (too sensitive, maybe?), but made #17 on CHUM in May 1968.

The mono single edit is featured here. It is trimmed down to 3:26 from the 4:10 LP version, and has never been reissued.
