Very interesting, except Brian’s Baptist guest makes a false statement about speaking in tongues at the start. I wrote this comment defending this incredible Holy Spirit gift that helps break the powers of darkness!
Brian, I pray in tongues every day, and sometimes for over an hour. I first received the gift in 1981.
At 1:50 here, praying in tongues is often not in a known language. Paul says in 1 Cor. 13:1 “If I speak with the LANGUAGES of men and OF ANGELS….” Paul also said our minds are unfruitful. 1 Cor. 14:14 For if I pray in another language, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. 15 “What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also. I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.”
Paul then says he prays in tongues more than anyone, but not during public meetings, because it’s his own personal prayer language that wouldn’t edify visitors. Verse 18: “I thank my God, I speak with other languages more than you all. However in the assembly….” Praying in tongues builds oneself up spiritually. Jude 1:20 “But you, beloved, keep building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit.” I believe this is because most often, we’re dealing with evil spirits, which then often flee. It’s a way to pray perfectly without having to see the ugly demons.
Paul was probably James-3 cursed more than anyone else, and dealt with heavy spiritual attacks from demons, so he had to pray to be free more than anyone else. If I didn’t know how to pray in tongues I probably would have died many years ago. I get James-3 cursed every day for standing up for what is right. ‘Christian’ leaders can be the biggest James-3 cursers. They pray against people, which James says not to do in James 3.
