IS THE PROGNOSIS FOR AMERICA TERMINAL?

[…]

The other book I reviewed is Jack Monnett’s coming novel “When the Lights Went Out” about normal people confronting the social unrest caused by the collapse of the electrical grid by a nuclear EMP strike by Iran. It’s a following to his books on Awakening to our Awful Situation.

Monnett’s social breakdown scenario begins more realistically by an enemy’s EMP strike that takes down the national electric grid. My only disagreement with this scenario is that current research indicates it would probably take about 6 nuclear explosions spaced carefully over the nation to have this kind of devastating effect. Secondly, Iran would not be likely to have this capability compared to Russia and China. Nevertheless, it doesn’t really matter how it happens, Monnett does a good job of presenting a variety of scenarios that we will surely face someday.

Monnett focuses on the possible effects of an EMP strike on the national and local level, and his story is a solid wake up call for those who continue to think America is not at risk. His novel is set in a small Utah community so you get a unique look at how a community with a majority of preparedness oriented Mormons deals with hostile intruders as well as helping out those not of their faith that are unprepared. Overall it is an interesting view of foreshadowed events. It should appear on Amazon.com mid next week.

  1. A very scary scenario indeed. I have actually purchased some bags that are designed to protect against the affects of EMPs for personal electronic devises (cell phones, radios, computers, etc.). They can be found at empbags.com. Let me know what you think.

    Wow very nice, thank you very much! contact me if ever you want to chat more about this. I know that all of the above will be used and occur. The question now is just when. It usually takes a total psycho or else the propelling reasons built up so high on the shoulder of the despots before they finally think its worth risking their life to try taking over the world. if you utilize NASA’s 100% accurate calendar of everything that’s coming, and everything else coming from historians, scientists concerning the Earth’s behavior what’s coming and so on, you can get just as near knowing as the Lord predicted you could, knowing the season, even the month, and of course most definitely the year. He just said we wouldn’t know the actual day and actual hour. I love taking the Lord literally because I figure He knew what He was talking about and wasn’t a soothsayer that throws it all up in the air knowing that at least one or two out of enough prophecies will land head on somewhere but not everywhere. The Lord was head on each and every time, and literally. Your friend always -Ben :0)

      The one thing ignored here, and which is largely ignored, or sensationalized by the world so that it really becomes “beyond belief” are the holy scriptures. Like I suppose Joel Skousen may be, since he had a famous uncle who wrote a number of widely read books read in my faith, I am a “Mormon” (or “Latter-Day Saint” / “LDS”), that is I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. And being a Mormon, I subscribe to the Bible, the Book of Mormon, and other writings accepted by members of my faith as “scripture” (i.e., the words of God).

      You see, we believe that God knows everything. Theologians like to use a word that means the same thing, “omniscient”. God is omniscient. He not only knows everything going on now, he knows, and has known since, well, “forever” what will happen in the future. And, He also knows the past. One phrase to describe God’s “foreknowledge” of things yet to happen found in The Book of Abraham, a part of another canon of LDS scripture, is this, “My name is Jehovah, and I know the end from the beginning…” — (Pearl of Great Price | Abraham 2:8). Some other phrases used to describe God’s omniscience, found in “Mormon scripture” (which includes the Bible) are these—

      • “Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite”. Psalms 147:5 (from the Bible)

      • “…known unto God are all his works from the beginning…” — Acts 15:18 (in the Bible)

      • “O how great the holiness of our God! For he knoweth all things, and there is not anything save he knows it.”
      —(Book of Mormon | 2 Nephi 9:20)

      • “10 But the words which are sealed he shall not deliver, neither shall he deliver the book. For the book shall be sealed by the power of God, and the revelation which was sealed shall be kept in the book until the own due time of the Lord, that they may come forth; for behold, they reveal all things from the foundation of the world unto the end thereof.”
      11 And the day cometh that the words of the book which were sealed shall be read upon the house tops; and they shall be read by the power of Christ; and all things shall be revealed unto the children of men which ever have been among the children of men, and which ever will be even unto the end of the earth.”
      — (Book of Mormon | 2 Nephi 27:10 – 11)

      • “…the Lord knoweth all things which are to come…” — (Book of Mormon | Words of Mormon 1:7)

      • 1 THUS saith the Lord your God, even Jesus Christ, the Great I AM, Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the same which looked upon the wide expanse of eternity, and all the seraphic hosts of heaven, before the world was made;
      2 The same which knoweth all things, for all things are present before mine eyes;
      3 I am the same which spake, and the world was made, and all things came by me.

      (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 38:1 – 3)

      Anyway, God knows it all. We don’t know it all. But we believe fully that he does.

      Furthermore, we believe that mankind is of the same race or species as God is, except we are mortal— we can and will die. And we cannot become like God, except only if we conform ourselves and our lives to the principles by which he operates.

      For example, He is perfectly just. He is also perfectly merciful. And, He is righteous. He can do no evil, for He has said that He cannot, does not, and will not do evil. And, since He is a being of truth, we believe Him.

      In fact, we are not only of the same race or species as God is, but He is, in fact, the Father of our spirits. That entity which is invisible to mortal eyes, is, nonetheless, made of a finer or purer substance than can be beheld with mere mortal eyes. It is our spirit that makes and keeps our physical body alive. Once our spirit, or “ghost” leaves our body, it dies, or will die, if that spirit or ghost does not return into it.

      Our spirit looks just like our body, because our body looks just like our spirit. Our spirit was created or formed first.

      Anyway, getting down to the point on EMP attacks that I want to make, I want to point out that scripture, including prophecy in scripture, came to mankind from God, according to his knowledge of those things that will happen in the future.

      Two prophecies were given, I believe personally (this is NOT doctrine of the Mormon Church, but a belief I have of how a particular prophecy will, IMO, most likely occur), of an EMP attack or attacks. This was first given in Micah (in the Bible – in the Old Testament), chapter 5, verses 10 & 11—

      10 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD, that I will cut off thy horses out of the midst of thee, and I will destroy thy chariots:

      11 And I will cut off the cities of thy land, and throw down all thy strong holds:

      (Old Testament | Micah 5:10 – 11)

      But a slightly fuller version of this same prophecy was, according to LDS belief, uttered by the resurrected Jesus Christ (who was and is “Jehovah” of the Old Testament), where He declared—

      14 Yea, wo be unto the Gentiles except they repent; for it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Father, that I will cut off thy horses out of the midst of thee, and I will destroy thy chariots;

      15 And I will cut off the cities of thy land, and throw down all thy strongholds;

      (Book of Mormon | 3 Nephi 21:14 – 15)

      Ironically, the “horses” spoken of in these scriptures are not the kind that eat hay and whinny. This is a reference to items “measured in horses” or rather “measured in horse POWER”. It is referring to engines and motors. And “chariots” are simply vehicles, be they automobiles (“cars”), trucks, boats, ships, airplanes, trains, motorcycles, tractors, planters, harvesters, etc.

      And, the second verse of these veri-similar scriptures talks about cities being “cut off” and “strongholds” being “thrown down”. What does this mean?

      Well, as far as cities being “cut off”, that means that they will be “cut off” from one another, and “cut off” from rural areas that make cities otherwise survivable. How? Well, my response is, “How not?” Until I began working out of my home again shortly after this story (above) was written after a quarter century of leasing an office, my commute each way was a relatively short 15 minutes, or about 10 miles.

      If my car doesn’t work, nor anyone else’s, aren’t we ALL, for most intents, purposes, and practicalities STRANDED? Yes. And, ironically, the only thing that would THEN work, as long as you can keep them alive, if you have any are REAL HORSES! But though we now have far more of those than her around in the “horse and buggy” days; yet, we would have far, far, far too few to serve our needs TODAY!

      Yes, the people whom we all largely consider to be technologically the most backwards today, those Amish who live strictly without electricity, etc, will be the ONLY ONES with FULLY FUNCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY when an EMP attack occurs!

      Therefore, because we will NOT have horses, like the Amish, we all, for the most part, will be “cut off” from each other. We won’t be able to phone, because phones won’t work. We won’t be able to e-mail, because computers and the internet won’t work. TV’s and radios won’t work. Possibly, even ham radios may not function. So, communication wise, we will have to rely on rumor (even more than we do NOW)!

      And, as far as actually conveying people and things, we will be largely “cut off” from one another. City from city, and city from the country or rural areas, and vice versa, where rural areas will need manufactured goods.

      Finally, if airplanes, and tanks, and military vehicles don’t work, or weapon systems, then indeed, our “strongholds”, our military capabilities, will be “thrown down”. And, militarily then, we will become EXTREMELY vulnerable.

      There is one other way God could cause this to happen, likely. And that is via a massive or several big solar flares, which back in the 19th century did appear to have happened. I think, though, that God may simple allow our enemies to prevail in some ways for a while, to punish us for our sins, and to induce us to repent. We will, sooner or later, see which option He uses for us!

    Rocktolman, anything that works, use it :0) You might be the only person in the world with a working cell phone, but I know having a working generator and other things would certainly come in handy :0)
