BILL MOYERS: The main reason I put this book out, Moyers on Democracy, is because we are facing—you know, democracy is always a story of narrow escapes, and we may be running out of luck, because we’ve always thought the present was better than…the past and the future will be better than the present. All bets are off now, because we are not—our politics can create problems our policies can then not solve. Start a war, can’t finish it. Spend $2 trillion on healthcare, but can’t fix it. Infrastructure crumbling, highways full of potholes, can’t do anything about it.

These fundamental structural issues of American democracy are not being addressed by this campaign, even in the best of times, when it’s not just a horse race, when they’re on the Sunday morning talk shows, when they’re making speeches. They are so appealing to the particular interest of people, of groups, that they cannot take on—they’re not taking on the large issue. Obama talks about change. Hillary Clinton talks about, you know, a populist message. But neither one of them seem to me—and nor does John McCain—none of these three seem to me to be grasping what’s fundamentally at stake in this country, which is a system that is now dysfunctional. And so many powerful interests have a stake in maintaining the dysfunction that it’s almost impossible to change it.

That is the moment—this is the moment in which if we don’t solve that structural issue of our politics, we are in real trouble. And I don’t like to say that, because I have five grandchildren, and the future is theirs, not mine. But this is what we’re not hearing. This is what the system is not going to deal with in November. And it’s a very troubling reality.

Jeremiah Wright at National Press Club: “God Wants Us RECONCILED One to Another”

Although in this speech (which includes the now infamous Q & A in parts 4-6, below),  Jeremiah Wright takes a few things that the Bible teaches out of context, most of this bold chastisement of the press and call for us to be ONE is wonderful!

It’s sad and telling to see Obama now basically denounce Wright, especially regarding the use of our troops in foreign policy. Wright basically just says Obama is being a politician, doing what politicians do in order to win—which I think is unconscionable.

I transcribed this statement by Wright on what Ron Paul calls nation building.

“We have troops stationed all over the world,
just like Rome had troops stationed all over the world,
because we run the world.

That notion of imperialism is not the message of the gospel of the Prince of Peace,
nor a God whom loves the world.”

Jeremiah Wright Jr., defended his statements accusing the U.S. government of deliberately engineering the AIDS virus as a means of genocide during a National Press Club appearance yesterday by citing the documented history of the U.S. government’s involvement in biological warfare operations against innocent people.

Asked if he stood behind previous statements about the U.S. government deliberately creating AIDS as a means of genocide against black people, Wright responded, “”Have you read Horowitz’ book – Emerging Viruses – AIDS and Ebola?”

“Have you read Medical Apartheid,” continues Wright as he is heckled from the floor.

But when Wright starts to list documented examples of how the U.S. government had been complicit in biological warfare operations against innocent people, the reaction was noticeably mute.

As WND has reported, Wright used his pulpit to accuse the U.S. of knowing about the planned attack on Pearl Harbor prior to the 1941 Japanese attack and to blame the government for developing the HIV virus to target blacks. [see the evidence for Write’s comments being actually true, below – ed.]

CNN’s John Roberts: “…you are the only Republican calling for a withdraw from Iraq. Would your supporters—if you’re not going to become President and be in a position to affect that—would they be better off voting for the Democratic candidate?”

Ron Paul: “I don’t think so, because I don’t think they’re very sincere. If you look at Obama’s voting record, he’s voted not to end the war. He’s voted to finance the war. So his rhetoric is playing to the people that come my way, but he is every bit as much of an interventionist. He wants to send more troops into Afghanistan. He wants to broaden the military. So I think it’s a fraud what he’s talking about, when he wants to really get out of Iraq. I think that’s politics.”

OBAMA: You talked about my ears. I just want to put you on notice: I’m very sensitive about — what I told them was, ”I was teased relentlessly when I was a kid about my big ears.’ ”

DOWD: We’re just trying to toughen you up.

LIMBAUGH: “We’re just trying to toughen you up.” Here is what Barack Obama said: Talk about my ears, so “I just want to put you on notice: I’m very sensitive about — what at I told them was that [sic] ‘I was teased relentlessly when I was a kid about my big ears.’ ”

Now, there are many aspects of this, folks, that we need to delve into and explore. For one thing — I mean, you know me — if the guy is sensitive about his big ears, we need to give him a new name, like Dumbo, but that doesn’t quite get it. You know, just calling him — calling him — that just doesn’t — how about Barack Hussein Odumbo?

Well, if he’s sensitive — stop to think about this. This is a man being lauded as the savior of the country, a presidential candidate ready to be anointed, and he can’t handle being teased about his big ears? And he goes out to Maureen Dowd and says, “I am putting you on notice”? Is that a threat? I want to put you on notice?

It’s no secret that Barack Obama is one of the top recipients of corporate campaign contributions in this election — in fact, he’s number two in the U.S. Senate behind Hillary Clinton for payoff money from the health insurance and pharmaceutical industries (which explains his successful gutting of health care reform while “serving” in the Illinois state senate).
But the blatant dishonesty and hypocrisy go a bit deeper than that. …

What Obama has done is pull a sleight-of-hand trick.  By avoiding direct contributions, he manages to appear as though he is keeping his promise not to accept money from federal lobbyists.  But in actuality, he is still taking it from the lobbying firms.  He gets away with it by claiming that he is taking individual contributions from those not registered as lobbyists.  Technically true, but it’s a cheat: the money is instead going through middle men, employees of lobbying firms who can operate under the proverbial radar.

US KINGMAKERS GET THEIR WAY NO MATTER WHICH PARTY WINS

While Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul fight on in the race for the Republican nomination, media manipulation has done its job in behalf of John McCain, and it’s McCain who will be the Republican standard bearer. In my opinion, forcing John McCain upon the Republicans greatly diminishes the chance of a Republican victory in November. On the Democratic side, Barak Obama continues to rack up victory after victory over Hillary Clinton-to the relief of millions of Americans who dislike Clinton. However, despite this appearance of victory for Obama, the Democratic race is very much unsettled. Even if Obama wins all the remaining primaries, he still ends up only barely ahead of Hillary in delegate counts–owing to the proportional allocation system. Obama is “winning” delegates in each primary, but so is Hillary. That is why the ultimate decision will be in the hands of the Democratic Party “heavies” –those state and national party leaders that control some 400 “super-delegate” votes. A large portion of these leaders are very much part of the insider control system that manipulates each election. This week I’ll discuss the potential consequences of a McCain-Obama contest as opposed to a McCain-Clinton race.
