A recent study conducted by a group of University of Michigan researchers reinforces this theory about food addictions. The report, which was published in the U.S. National Library of Medicine, concludes that “cheese really is crack”, as the Los Angeles Times put it:
Pizza, unsurprisingly, came out on top of the most addictive food list. Besides being a basic food group for kids, college students and adults, there’s a scientific reason we all love pizza, and it has to do with the cheese. (Highly processed foods cause food addiction similar to hard drugs, study shows)
Turns out that researchers have known since the 1980s that cheese actually contains small amounts of morphine—yes, the very same drug given in hospitals as a hardcore pain relief. It’s not added by evil dairy farmers intent on securing their financial futures though, as is actually found naturally in both cow and human milk—which might explain a lot to new mothers who are having trouble shaking off their offspring. (Why Cheese is Like “Dairy Crack”: Because It’s Got Morphine In It)
Breaking the Food Seduction
by Neal D. Barnard, M.D.
…in 1981, Eli Hazum and his colleagues at Wellcome Research Laboratories in Research Triangle Park, N.C., reported a remarkable discovery. Analyzing samples of cow’s milk, they found traces of a chemical that looked very much like morphine. They put it to one chemical test after another. And, finally, they arrived at the conclusion that, in fact, it is morphine. There is not a lot of it and not every sample had detectable levels. But there is indeed some morphine in both cow’s milk and human milk.
Morphine, of course, is an opiate and is highly addictive. So how did it get into milk? …cows actually produce it within their bodies, just as poppies do. Traces of morphine, along with codeine and other opiates, are apparently produced in cows’ livers and can end up in their milk.
But that was only the beginning, as other researchers soon found. Cow’s milk-or the milk of any other species, for that matter-contains a protein, called casein, that breaks apart during digestion to release a whole host of opiates, called casomorphins. A cup of cow’s milk contains about six grams of casein. Skim milk contains a bit more, and casein is concentrated in the production of cheese.
If you examined a casein molecule under a powerful microscope, it would look like a long chain of beads (the “beads” are amino acids-simple building blocks that combine to make up all the proteins in your body). When you drink a glass of milk or eat a slice of cheese, stomach acid and intestinal bacteria snip the casein molecular chains into casomorphins of various lengths. One of them, a short string made up of just five amino acids, has about one-tenth the pain-killing potency of morphine.
What are these opiates doing there, hidden in milk proteins? It appears that the opiates from mother’s milk produce a calming effect on the infant and, in fact, may be responsible for a good measure of the mother-infant bond. No, it’s not all lullabies and cooing. Psychological bonds always have a physical underpinning. Like it or not, mother’s milk has a drug-like effect on the baby’s brain that ensures that the baby will bond with Mom and continue to nurse and get the nutrients all babies need. Like heroin or codeine, casomorphins slow intestinal movements and have a decided antidiarrheal effect. The opiate effect may be why adults often find that cheese can be constipating, just as opiate painkillers are. …
But French researchers fed skim milk and yogurt to volunteers and found that, sure enough, at least some casein fragments do pass into the bloodstream. They reach their peak about 40 minutes after eating.
Cheese contains far more casein than other dairy products do. As milk is turned into cheese, most of its water, whey proteins, and lactose sugar are removed, leaving behind concentrated casein and fat.
Cheese holds other drug-like compounds as well. It contains an amphetamine-like chemical called phenylethylamine, or PEA, which is also found in chocolate and sausage. And there are many hormones and other compounds in cheese and other dairy products whose functions are not yet understood. In naloxone tests, the opiate-blocking drug eliminates some of cheese’s appeal, just as it does for chocolate. …
Prominent food researcher Dr. Thomas Cowan…. Raw and cultured dairy products from healthy grass-fed cows are one of the healthiest foods people have ever eaten. However, pasteurized milk products have caused more disease than perhaps any other substance people are generally in contact with.
However, he still felt that a piece of the puzzle was missing. Many of his patients, in spite of eating only the proper dairy products, still had illness and still seemed not to tolerate milk. Recently, he was asked to consider writing the foreword to a book called The Devil in the Milk, written by Dr. Keith Woodford, which was again an eye-opener for him.
All proteins are long chains of amino acids. Beta casein is a chain 229 amino acids in length. Cows who produce this protein in their milk with a proline at number 67 are called A2 cows, and are the older breeds of cows (e.g. Jerseys, Asian and African cows). But some 5,000 years ago, a mutation occurred in this proline amino acid, converting it to histidine. Cows that have this mutated beta casein are called A1 cows, and include breeds like Holstein.
Proline has a strong bond to a small protein called BCM 7, which helps keep it from getting into the milk, so that essentially no BCM 7 is found in the urine, blood or GI tract of old-fashioned A2 cows. On the other hand, histidine, the mutated protein, only weakly holds on to BCM 7, so it is liberated in the GI tract of animals and humans who drink A1 cow milk.
BCM 7 has been shown to cause neurological impairment in animals and people exposed to it, especially autistic and schizophrenic changes. BCM 7 interferes with the immune response, and injecting BCM 7 in animal models has been shown to provoke type 1 diabetes. Dr. Woodford’s book presents research showing a direct correlation between a population’s exposure to A1 cow’s milk and incidence of autoimmune disease, heart disease, type 1 diabetes, autism, and schizophrenia.
Simply switching breeds of cows could result in amazing health benefits.
Mercola’s Comments:
As many of you know, I do not recommend drinking pasteurized milk of any kind because the pasteurization process, which entails heating the milk to a temperature of 145 degrees to 150 degrees F and keeping it there for at least half an hour, completely changes the structure of the milk proteins into something far less than healthy.
Pasteurized cow’s milk is the number one allergic food in the United States. It has been associated with a number of symptoms and illnesses including:
- Diarrhea, cramps, bloating and gas
- Osteoporosis
- Arthritis
- Heart disease
- Cancer
- Recurrent ear infections and colic in infants and children
- Type 1 diabetes
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Infertility
- Leukemia
- Autism
…there are those people who still have trouble drinking raw milk, and like Dr. Thomas Cowan, I have wondered if there could be a missing piece to the puzzle. …
So the theory goes that by drinking milk from A1 cows, which are the predominant cows used for dairy products in the United States, you’re exposed to BCM-7, which has been linked to:
- Neurological impairment, including autistic and schizophrenic changes
- Type 1 diabetes
- An impaired immune response
- Autoimmune disease
- Heart disease
… For now, you can get an eye-opening education into the health issues surrounding A1 milk, and why A2 milk appears to be far superior, in Keith Woodford’s book Devil in the Milk: Illness, Health and the Politics of A1 and A2 Milk.
How to Find Truly Health Milk
… To find A2 milk, the type that has not been associated with illness and instead appears to have numerous health benefits, look for milk that comes from Jerseys, Asian and African cows. The best way to do this may be to get to know a farmer directly and find out what type of cow is used. And as always, stick to milk that is raw, NOT pasteurized.
Raw goat and sheep’s milk is another option, as these types of milk do not contain BCM-7.
On other point Woodford’s book points out is that people with healthy digestive tracts do not absorb as much BCM-7. So this is yet another incentive to keep your gut in tip-top condition by eating healthy and getting plenty of good bacteria, either by eating naturally fermented foods or taking a high-quality probiotic — especially if you enjoy drinking raw milk, and are not sure whether it comes from A1 or A2 cows.

Imagine, Congress banned standard light bulbs so we would use these toxic alternatives. This is worse than I thought:
“Step one: Air out the area
As soon as that bulb breaks, you’ll want to let the room air out for about 15 minutes. Get everyone out (especially pets, who might be inclined to investigate the mess), then open the windows and shut the doors. You’ll also want to be sure and turn off your central air — the last thing you want is to circulate that mercury throughout your home. …
Step three: Pick up the pieces
You’ll be tempted to sweep everything up with a broom — but don’t. Anything that rifles through the broken bits of your bulb is going to risk mercury contamination. You’ll also want to be sure not to use your vacuum, as doing so will risk kicking mercury back up into the air.
Did you know that over 90% of American homes have microwave ovens used for meal preparation?
Microwave ovens use technology that passes electromagnetic waves through food, exciting the molecules and causing them to move, vibrate and heat up as they respond to the microwave radiation.
Microwaves have a device called magnetron that produces wave energy. This wave energy converts polarity of molecules from positive to negative. Microwaves bombard the food molecules and make the polarized molecules to radiate at the same frequency millions of times every second. This process heats the food but at the same time causes structural isomerism (or structural damage) of the food molecules.
A Swiss study led by biologist and food scientist Dr. Hans Hertel identified the effects of microwaved food. For eight weeks, eight people lived in a controlled environment and intermittently ate raw foods, conventionally cooked foods and microwaved foods. Blood samples were tested after each meal. The microwaved food caused significant changes in blood chemistry.
According to Dr. Hans Hertel,
“There are no atoms, molecules or cells of any organic system able to withstand such a violent, destructive power for any extended period of time, not even in the low energy range of milliwatts… This is how microwave cooking heat is generated – friction from this violence in water molecules. Structures of molecules are torn apart, molecules are forcefully deformed (called structural isomerism) and thus become impaired in quality.”
In case you are wondering why is food unevenly heated when removed from the microwave, note that this occurs due to the fact that microwave ovens work with whatever water molecules are present. Given that not all molecules in the food contain same amount of water, the heating becomes uneven, too.
Yet another study looked at the effects of microwaving breast milk. It was done by researchers at Stanford University and found that microwaving human milk destroys most of its disease-fighting properties.
In early 1991, a lawsuit was filed against an Oklahoma hospital after a patient died from receiving blood that was heated in a microwave oven.
In 1976 in Russia, microwave ovens were banned because of their negative effect on health and wellbeing.
How does a microwave oven harm our bodies?
Amazing how young he looks at 60!

“40 years ago when I started my practice, only 1 in 10,000 children had autism. Today it’s 1 in 100. What is the only difference we have seen? The inordinate number of vaccines that are being given to children today. My partners and I have over 35,000 patients who have never been vaccinated. You know how many cases of autism we have seen? Zero, Zero. I have made this statement for over 40 years. ‘No vaccines, no autism.'”

(Natural News) Cruciferous greens have long been heralded as potent disease fighters. Sulforaphane, a dietary compound found in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli goes further into the DNA to halt cancer cells from proliferation, giving us more reasons to eat our vegetables.
Researchers at the Oregon State University found that the anti-cancer compound helped regulate a certain type of long, non-coding RNA called LINC01116. It has been established that lncRNAs, once considered to be “junk” DNAs with no function, play an essential role in cell biology and development by identifying which genes to express to cover certain genetic function. Researchers inferred that unregulated lncRNAs may trigger multiple cell-based diseases such as cancer. The experts also found that LINC01116 was more pronounced in a human cell line of prostate cancer.
Treatment with sulforaphane helped disrupt LINC01116, which in turn resulted in a four-fold decline in the ability of prostate cancer cells to bond together. The same IncRNA was associated with several other types of cancer such as brain, colon and lung, according to the recent study.
Prostate cancer remains to be the second most frequently diagnosed cancer worldwide. The disease was also the second most common cause of cancer-related deaths in the U.S. The results suggest that eating sulforaphane-rich vegetables such broccoli may help mitigate the risk of developing prostate cancer, researchers said. (RELATED: Explore more discoveries about food nutrients at Nutrients.news.)
“This could be a turning point in our understanding of how cancer may be triggered and spreads. It’s obviously of interest that this dietary compound, found at some of its highest levels in broccoli, can affect lncRNAs. This could open the door to a whole range of new dietary strategies, foods or drugs that might play a role in cancer suppression or therapeutic control,” said researcher Emily Ho.
“We showed that treatment with sulforaphane could normalize the levels of this lncRNA. This may relate to more than just cancer prevention. It would be of significant value if we could develop methods to greatly slow the progress of cancer, help keep it from becoming invasive,” lead author Laura Beaver added.
Other cruciferous vegetables such as Brussels sprout, kale and cabbage as well as collard greens and cauliflower also contain high levels of sulforaphnne.
The results were published in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry.
A landmark animal study by Johns Hopkins University researchers revealed that the dietary compound sulforaphane helps mitigate cancer risk by boosting Phase-2 enzymes in the body. These enzymes were shown to regulate disease processes. Research data showed that female rats given sulforaphane extract developed significantly fewer tumors when exposed to carcinogens than those in the control group. The study also found that among supplemented rats, those that developed tumors exhibited smaller tumor sizes that took longer to grow compared with the control group.
Researchers also found that three-day-old broccoli sprouts have 20 to 50 times the concentration of anti-cancer compounds than mature broccoli heads. The findings were published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Court documents reveal deep roots of corruption and collusion between Monsanto and the EPA. The EPA declared that Monsanto’s Roundup weed killer was safe without conducting tests on it. It relied solely on Monsanto research. Monsanto’s lead toxicologist, in her deposition to the court, admitted that the company did not run studies to see if there is a link to cancer. The EPA’s Jesse Rowland of the agency’s Cancer Assessment Review Committee even tried to kill cancer research conducted by the World Health Organization that indicated Roundup was carcinogenic. -GEG
At the very least, cell phone users should use caution: Never “wear” your cell phone, store it in shirt pockets or hold it in your hand as you walk or drive. Don’t use wired baby monitors or let kids play with radiating cell phones, as biological consequences have been documented. Use a wired earpiece that keeps the phone the furthest from your head, and use landlines whenever possible. Asked what the take-away is from the studies to use caution, Phillips concluded,
“If you look at all of the research being done on this, it’s all from outside this country. People want to believe their technology is safe. I do. I would love to believe it, but I know better.”20

Studies have shown that benzo(a)pyrene, a chemical in black tattoo ink, can induce skin cancer in test animals, while other cancer-causing chemicals have also been identified in many other tattoo inks. For instance, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has classified carbon black – a major component of black tattoo ink – as possibly carcinogenic to human beings.
Additionally, black inks appear to be capable of producing reactive oxygen species (ROS) which can potentially damage skin cells.
It’s worth remembering that the vast majority of tested tattoo inks contain nanoparticles, which may be capable of evading the body’s natural defenses more easily. In fact, black tattoo pigments are almost pure nanoparticles, which have been shown to migrate away from the skin, damage collagen, and accumulate in the spleen and kidneys, with possibly harmful effects for health.
