[timelapse video] Shawn Reeder: Magical New Zealand

Magical New Zealand

I have always wanted to travel to New Zealand for as long as I can remember, and so when I decided to move out of my home of 10 years and start pursuing film making around the world, I knew the time had come. It was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made to leave my beloved home, but I was more ready than ever to embrace the unknown and explore the world. I spent 3 months in New Zealand traveling in a Camper Van having one of the most incredible times of my life. I enjoyed countless nights under the stars, towering mountains, magical rainforest, stunning ocean, and meeting people from all over the world. It changed my life forever, and I know I’ll never be the same.

Magical New Zealand is comprised of 8640 individual images from over 150,000 that were taken as I traveled around New Zealand for 3 months last spring. The inspirational music of Shaun Diaz is the perfect complement to this magical landscape. If you enjoy, please share!

This piece and footage clips from it are available for licensing at 4k and 1080p.

I originally created this piece with beautiful spoken poetry accompanying it. Recently I prepared this without the spoken word for my stock agency and since it has such a different feel I want to share it here as well. You can see the original piece here:

The inspiring attitude behind Shawn’s magnificent and inspiring work!

– –

“My mission in life is to spread love to others.”

“Something hit me…that my path was to share this beauty with others.”

“By following my own passion, by following my  heart, it’s actually enabling me to make a living by just living. … That’s something we can all do. … And it takes hard work. … By being true to our heart, by being true to our truest essence that there is this synchronicity that comes with it all, that helps everything just flow. And that by tapping into that flow, with the right, perfect balance of being in the flow and working hard, and having a vision, that our dreams can come true.”

“If we never take risks we’re never going to achieve our highest vision of who we are, because that takes stepping outside of our comfort zone. It’s so easy just to stay in this little comfort zone of what we know. But I feel like whenever we step outside of our comfort zone, when we take a risk, that the potential for something beyond what we ever could have imagined is there waiting there for us.”

“I haven’t felt nervous at all; I just feel like I’m on my path. I’m living the life that I’ve come here to live.”

“When you are thankful in advance….”

“The character traits that we develop by facing those challenges….”

[Photography Ethics] How a Photographer Contrived a Hummingbird Shot

This bothers me, and seems to be unethical and deceptive business practice to me, unless the photographer is fully up front, telling every potential customer that he put sugar in the flowers, and that the beautiful floral background is a large print he hung on a tripod behind the flower, that replaced the feeder, which he placed there first so the hummingbirds would be accustomed to landing in this artificially created spot.

Replacing the feeder with a flower, and constantly spiking it with sugar:

Once the birds are acclimated to the position of my feeders and the surrounding flashes, I search for local flowers.

I remove the feeder and mount the flower in its place. The birds are primed to return to this location (they have very good spatial memory) for food. Some of them will leave when they don’t see the familiar feeder. But some will try the flower. To satisfy them further, I spike the flower with sugar water from a syringe.

Creating a fake floral background:

One consequence of setting all the flashes to be brighter than the ambient light is that a distant background will be black, as if it were night. That’s because the light from the flashes falls off very quickly at greater distances. (As described by the Inverse Square Law. … To solve this problem, you can put an artificial background behind the hummingbird, close enough to the flashes that it will be properly exposed (but far enough back to avoid shadows). In this case, I’d prepared several backgrounds at home that were natural looking blurs of plants and flowers similar to what we’d find in Ecuador. I often shoot out-of-focus pictures of flowers and vegetation for this purpose, and further blur them in Photoshop. Use your creativity and artistry.

10 Bogus Excuses People Use When They Steal Photos from the Web

So you think you have a good reason or excuse to use a photo you found on the Internet without asking the photographer who took it? Let’s see if it can stand the test.

[…]

4. It’s on Facebook, and everything on Facebook is on public domain

Contrary to popular belief, a photographer does not lose his/her copyright when a photo is uploaded on Facebook. Facebook’s Term of Service says:

You own all of the content and information you post on Facebook

So can you share a photo posted on Facebook? Usually, but under certain conditions. Facebook Term of Service says:

you can control how [your photo] is shared through your privacy and application settings.

That means a photo on Facebook can be shared by another user only by using the “share” button and only if the photographer allows it from his/her privacy setting. You cannot save it on your computer and use it anywhere else on Facebook or the Internet.

[…]

10. Millions of people are doing it!

This argument is invalid. Unless of course you can point me out the article of law that tells exactly how many people doing something illegal it takes to make that act legal.

[ video ] Trippy Mirrored Hyperlapse Videos Shot on Japanese Monorail Systems

From: PetaPixel

Mirroring your time-lapse footage can yield a trippy, ethereal quality to an otherwise standard video. Riding on the Japanese monorail, for example, is nothing particularly special. Creating a hyperlapse of the experience, while cool, probably won’t stand out.

A few users, however, have come up with some interesting takes on a monorail hyperlapse by mirroring the footage and taking you on a much stranger journey.

The video above was shot by Vimeo user darwinfish105 using a Panasonic DMC-GH3 attached to an Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 9-18mm f/4.0-5.6. All of the photos were shot at a 1 second shutter, with help from an ND400 filter for daytime shots and setting the ISO at 400 (sans filter, obviously) at night. He then mirrored and vertically flipped the footage in post to get the final product.

Of course, he’s not the only person to have done something like this. Vimeo user Daihei Shibata‘s video Shinkansen ver.2 (above) takes you on a similar journey. His video captures the trip from Shinosaka to Tokyo as you would see it out of the right side window — assuming you had mirrored vision, that is. His was shot using an Olympus Pen EP-1.

If you want to see more trippy mirrored videos, check out this Chicago time-lapse we shared a few years ago, or read through the comments on the video at the top.

Look Up! Operation Paul Revere InfoWars.com Contest

This documentary explores the topics of GeoEngineering, SRM (Solar Radiation Management), Weather Modification and “chemtrails”, and introduces the public to new ways to protest against dangerous GeoEngineering initiatives by using the all new mobile app SkyderALERT. Put an end to the insanity. Look UP. Get the APP. Save the World. This film will make its world premiere on Alex Jones’ popular website InfoWars.com. Hopefully, the Alex Jones site’s growing numbers of followers will propel this very important film into the forefront of public awareness.

This is a new type of documentary NEVER DONE BEFORE. By using the patented mobile app, SkyderALERT, people will have the ability to capture visual evidence of this potentially catastrophic activity, petition against it, and send the evidence directly to the appropriate government officials– all in 1 click. You do not need to know who those officials are, or even where you are. Your position is automatically geo-located to ensure that the appropriate elected officials are selected for your state, city or district. SkyderALERT will even let you call your congresspeople, senators or governor directly… all by just using the app.

SkyderALERT releases for usage in the United States in early May 2013; the global version of the app will be released shortly thereafter.

There may be hope for democracy and freedom yet.

Solar Max Chart: We're Approaching the Top of the Trough — Gorgeous auroras expected! But if one gets too gorgeous our power grid isn’t EMP protected, thanks to Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski and Congress

In Anchorage, last Thursday night we had an amazing, GLORIOUS light show! The entire sky to the west, north and east was filled with glorious lights — including overhead! I witnessed this personally, and am even more in awe of God — ‘what would You have me to do?’
I saw an aurora in Anchorage about 20 years ago that was directly overhead, which I’ll never forget. I have said it was like God coming his hair. But this one had so much energy. What blew me away were huge donut shaped pulses almost directly overhead (slightly to the west and north of overhead) that looked like they were slamming down this amazing energy on me, more than one pulse per second. Selah.
And we can expect more gorgeous displays this winter. BUT our power grid and electronics are not EMP protected (explained in the links below), because Congress won’t act to protect our country for just the cost of one stealth bomber.
So hopefully we won’t get a northern lights show that is too wonderful, like has happened in the past, before we had delicate electronics.

Olympus organized crime connection suspect | Goldman Sachs makes money on the back of Olympus?

This saddens my heart. I’ve been a fan of Olympus for 40 years, and I now own one of their fabulous micro-four thirds cameras.

Olympus Yakuza connection suspect. Goldman Sachs makes money on the back of Olympus?

Everyday there are more and more true (or false?) news about the Olympus fee scandal. As usual take all news with a grain of salt. It’s so hard to understand what’s REALLY happening behind the scenes. There might be some kind of “obscure” interest that we are not aware of. The only thing I hope is that Olympus can soon take action to stop the never ending negative media reports.

The New York Times (Click here) writes that “In a memo prepared by investigators and circulated at a recent meeting of officials from Japan’s Securities and Exchange Surveillance Commission, the Tokyo prosecutor’s office and the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, officials say they are trying to determine whether Olympus worked with organized crime syndicates to obscure billions of dollars in past investment losses and then paid them exorbitant sums for their services.” and “The memo says investigators believe that over half of that amount has been channeled to organized crime syndicates, including the country’s largest, the Yamaguchi Gumi. The memo does not make clear whether Olympus knew about those links. But if confirmed by investigators, an association with organized crime could prompt a delisting of Olympus shares from the Tokyo Stock Exchange, under the exchange’s rules.

There is another huge surprise coming out via Z3n.tv (Click here) reports that Goldman Sachs earned $26 million by short selling “approximately 830,000 Olympus stocks the day before Woodford was dismissed. As you see there are so many obscure interests behind the story! If we really would put a Lupe on all companies and banks we might discover that the whole finance world is a mess. But as I said many times, I am a small writer living in the middle of the alps. My only hope is that Olympus employees will not be affected by that mess.

The camera used for this imagery was north-facing, so the Aurora Borealis stay visible throughout the video. Lights from southern Canada show up before passing into central North America. Through the clouds, the peninsula of Michigan can be seen, with Chicago brightly lit at the south end of Lake Michigan. A few lightning storms can be seen in the large cloud mass over the Central United States. Finally, many large cities can be seen on the East Coast of the United States, including Atlanta, Georgia. Near the end of the video, the eastern half of the Florida peninsula can be seen, as well as the lighter shallow waters of the Bahamas.

[video] Creative Idea: Walking Forward in a Backward World

In the day when most people are in The Matrix (walking backwards, thinking they’re actually walking forwards), this may be our reality once we break out of the trance — shining as bright lights in this ever darkening world.

I often think of it as swimming upstream, which I had a dream about once. The people were in the river flowing by me as I was cruising upstream, no problem. In the dream it was easy, practically effortless. But I think effortlessness can only happen when we are 100.00% determined walk fully in Love, abiding 100.00% in the Vine (John 15) — no ifs ands or buts all in Jesus — His ways all my days.

May we be ONE in Him (John 17). Then it will really be a piece of cake.

And many will do 180s to join us in walking forward, together with us, grounded in Love.

Here’s a fun and creative idea that requires brains rather than a big budget: using an ordinary video-capable camera and some basic editing software, you can show a person walking forward through a world that’s traveling backward. Court Upholds Citizens’ Right to Turn Cameras on Police Officers

From: PetaPixel.com…

Boston lawyer Simon Glik was arrested on October 1, 2007 when he used his cell phone to record officers making a drug arrest, and later sued the city and the officers for violating his rights. After the officers tried to having the lawsuit dismissed on the basis of qualified immunity, a Federal Appeals Court denied the motion last week and ruled that filming and photographing police is in fact protected by the First Amendment. They also note that the rights extend not just to professional news gatherers, but ordinary citizens as well:

[…] changes in technology and society have made the lines between private citizen and journalist exceedingly difficult to draw. The proliferation of electronic devices with video-recording capability means that many of our images of current events come from bystanders with a ready cell phone or digital camera rather than a traditional film crew, and news stories are now just as likely to be broken by a blogger at her computer as a reporter at a major newspaper. Such developments make clear why the news-gathering protections of the First Amendment cannot turn on professional credentials or status.

This is great news for photographers’ rights (in the United States, at least).

Yosemite at Night: Moonbows

Description from PetaPixel:

Moonbows” are rainbows that appear at night under moonlight, and are difficult to see with human eyes but beautiful when captured in long exposure photographs. There aren’t many places on Earth where this phenomenon can be regularly witnessed, but a few of them are found at the waterfalls in Yosemite.

Steven Bumgardner, the video producer for the national park, spent two years moonbow hunting and shot over 20,000 still photos with a Canon 5D Mark II to create the time-lapse sequences seen in the video above. After watching, you might want to add “moonbows” your list of things to see and photograph (along with the northern lights, perhaps).

The first part shows a Canon 10D DSLR exploding into its individual parts, and then those parts coming together again to slowly rebuild the camera, while the second part does the same for a Canon 24-85mm lens. Pretty…impressive considering that it’s for an undergraduate course.

Photographer Patrick Di Fruscia: The World Needs You :) — “Everyday we are bombarded by reasons why we should not do what our heart tells us … words with no foundation brought to you by people with no passion.” “Fear is a transition stage between your so called zone of comfort and your new life!”

The World Needs You 🙂

Patrick Di Fruscia

Everyday we are bombarded by reasons why we should not do what our heart tell us. Reasons like, it will never work, there is no money to be made in that field, it will be very difficult etc. Most of the time we are being told what we should and shouldn’t do by people who have never followed their dreams and passion and are now simply wishing they had done more to make it happen. These are merely words with no foundation brought to you by people with no passion.

You need to believe in everything your heart desire. If you don’t nobody will that’s for sure. You need to make sure that everyday you take a step however small it may be towards your goals. Always stay focus even when times are hard. When fear takes over, don’t worry about it ..this is a transition stage between your so call zone of comfort and your new life..keep pushing harder and don’t let that discourage you. Fear of the unknown is one of our greatest enemy and it has the power to make us believe a hundred fictional reasons why it will never work. Always Stay focus on the end result and visualize your new life
