[video] Michael Franti interview and performance at Occupy Wall St. Grounded TV Network

I still appreciate Michael Franti very much, but I don’t necessarily agree with everything he says. I’m hoping that he’ll wake up and realize that Obama isn’t what Obama sold himself to be. See: “The Obama Deception”: A Film by Alex Jones (High Quality)

Michael is among many who was boldly antiwar, pro-peace until Obama was elected…

Barefoot Michael Franti

From: 2leftbarefeet

This month [April] marks 10 years that musician Michael Franti has lived barefoot (apart for the occasional flip-flop usage in restaurants and airplanes). He originally intended to go barefoot for just three days and never stopped, as a way to connect with the people of the planet who couldn’t afford shoes, and to reconnect with his childhood, because as a kid, he hated wearing shoes.

YES!!! AE911 Truth Booth at Michael Franti’s “Power To The Peaceful” Festival!

From: Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth!

Oct 3, 2009
AE911Truth Booth at SF Power To The Peaceful Concert
— Michael Marino and Scott Beery

AE911Truth joined forces with the Northern California Truth Alliance headed by Carol Brouillet at a rally for 9/11 Truth in the Panhandle of Golden Gate Park on Saturday morning, September 12th. We then marched up Ashbury Street to Haight Street and up to Golden Gate Park with the AE911Truth banner “Hundreds of Architects & Engineers Demand a Real Investigation,” where we entered into the arena of the Power To The Peaceful Festival. We set up the powerfully branded AE911Truth exhibit booth which drew a lot of attention throughout the day.

We distributed stacks of information about the evidence for explosive controlled demolition on 9/11 to a curious crowd.

I held a large banner that had printed on it “9/11 Truth Now,” and was asked by some young people “…what is the truth”? It was virtually impossible to hold a conversation over the blaring speakers that rattled one’s body even 75 yards from the stage, but shouting I did manage to convey the addresses of some websites for future reference and hand out the AE911Truth evidence-based “street brochures.”

It was a great day and thousands of people saw our banners: “Open A New Investigation Into 9/11,” “9/11 Truth Now,” and “STOP The Cover-UP.” The undercover cops were kind ⎯ asking if they could take our pictures.

Former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney dropped in and made a rousing speech that brought a roar from the ecstatic crowd.

Although the event was a big hit and enjoyed by so many, there continues to be a large number of peace advocates who are not particularly interested in our message “9/11 Truth brings Peace.” This is the ongoing challenge we face in the struggle to open a real investigation, but progress is being made. Hopefully the sun will shine on us next year and we will hear some serious talk about the reality of the 9/11 problem that got us involved in the Middle East.

Michael Franti optomistic about Obama, but: “If he’s not doing what we want, then get mad!”

USA Today Interview, transcribed by Jeff Fenske

Franti, grateful to the max:

“I started to cry. I was thinking: when I was a kid, we never imagined we would have a black President, or a multi-racial President.

And here I am as a multi-racial person saying that to my brown child.”

Yet, having said that, don’t let down your guard:

“If he’s not doing what we want, then get mad! That’s the idea: speak out, stand up, raise your voice”

“It’s when we all sit back and go: ‘okay, whatever the government decides, that’s okay.’ That’s when you have problems.”

“The most important lesson that I’ve learned
is that we don’t have to choose sides.

We don’t have to be on the side of the Iraqis or Americans,
or the Israelis or Palistinians
,
or Croatians or Bosnians.

We can be on the side of the peacemakers.
And there’s people all over this planet
who are willing to take incredible risks.”

“And the other lesson that I’ve learned
is to be a good listener. …”

Michael Franti & Ron Paul on Iraq: “Do Unto Others”

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzIPSGhooP4]

From: YouTube, October, 2007

The first time I really thought Ron Paul could change the world was when [I saw] the first clip of the video. When he challenged us all to take a moment to consider the war from the perspective of Iraqis I thought back to what changed my opinion on the war.

It was the moment I watched these scenes and others from Michael Franti’s movie “I Know I’m Not Alone.” Franti is the anti-Michael Moore. As the story unwinds you find a people grateful for the liberation but growing resentful of the occupation. 75,000 dead Iraqi civilians [the number is much higher now] that all had friends and family. How many people close to you would you have to lose to a foreign military on your streets before you decided to fight back? When you did, would you consider yourself an “insurgent” or a “patriot”? A “terrorist” or a “human”? We will never stop “terrorism” as long as our occupation is the primary cause of it.

Politicians make it confusing to keep you convinced it can’t be so simple. We all understand the golden rule. If we applied it to politics more often, we would be much better off.

I voted Democrat in 2006 so they would bring the troops home, and we got a surge and a continuation of the Patriot Act. Obama, Hillary, and Edwards refused to promise in the last debate to withdraw the troops in the next 5 years! Kucinich only raised $300,000 last quarter. At this point Ron Paul is the only candidate who will promise to bring our troops home now that has a shot. We need to unite behind him because he is our best shot to get the troops home and save the live or Iraqi citizens.

Disclaimer:

I am in no way implying with this video that Michael Franti endorses Ron Paul. (although I think he should)

This movie as exceptional. If every American watched it tonight, we would have the troops home next week. Franti traveled to Iraq, Israel, Gaza, and the West Bank to understand the human cost of war. Truly phenomenal I highly recommend it.

Michael Franti in Alaska: LOVE to the HATEFUL!

Power to the peaceful,
Love to the peaceful.

That’s the easy part.

Power to the peaceful;
Love to the peaceful.

Now here’s the hard part:

Power to the peaceful;
Love to the hateful!

This album is dedicated to the great state of Alaska,
its people and its natural abundance.
May they work together forever.

Michael Franti: “It’s Never Too Late” — A Song of Reconciliation

This is a song of reconciliation between children and their parents—between friends. And it’s even a song of reconciliation for nations.”

– Michael Franti introducing Never Too Late in the Live in Sydney DVD

If some of you find the way he phrases his lyric about not fearing our fathers a bit peculiar, please consider that Michael’s step-father was an alcoholic. And now Michael is overcoming that and the other junk, trying to lead all of us into reconciliation! This is a beautiful, incredible human being, y’all—even if we’re not all on the same page spiritually, yet. We’re heading there : )

At the end of the Sydney concert, Spearhead’s bass player, Carl Young, says this to the audience about Michael.

“You know, you got to give it up to this big man who stands about 6-foot-6 above sea-level. And you know he grabs this microphone to take us to another mental level. The big man that always takes a big stand. From San Francisco, California, give it up for Mr. Michael Franti!”

Don’t fear your best friends,
because a best friend will
never try to do you wrong.
And don’t fear your worst friends,
because a worst friend is just a best friend
that has done you wrong. …

And it’s never too late to start the day over
It’s never too late to pick up the phone
(pick up the phone and call me)
It’s never too late to lay your
head down on my shoulders
It’s never too late to come on home,
come on home

Michael Franti’s Goal & How the Neocons Used Our Pain

[youtube=http://youtube.com/watch?v=5s75CPceiCw]

My goal has not ever been to change minds.
My goal is to open minds
.

So when people see my film or come to a show,
I want them to say: “Well, that’s a different way of looking at things,
and I’m maybe going to find out more.

I also want people to feel inspired,
so I try to make art that is uplifting
.”

Michael Franti: Power to the Peaceful Festival at Golden Gate Park

I would love to see something like the Power to the Peaceful Festival happen even in Alaska. We need to stand up for what is right before it’s too late.

Headliner, Michael Franti said this about the event in the Power to the Peaceful Festival 2005 DVD, which is held annually on the 9/11 weekend in San Francisco:

“We want this day and the remembrance of those lives lost on September 11 not to be a call for vengeance, but to be a call for peace, and to be a call for social justice.”

See the trailer.

This is last year’s poster of the event. This year it will be held on the 6th:

Blessed are the Peacemakers, y’all!

Michael Franti: Everyone Deserves Music — Even Our Worst Enemies

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-s6kaYb6Xo]

Everyone deserves music, sweet music
Everyone deserves music, sweet music
Even our worst enemies, Lord, they deserves music, sweet music
Even the quiet ones in our family, they deserve music

So I pray for them and I’ll play for them
So I pray for them and I’ll play for them

Michael Franti – Bomb the World

Please tell me the reason
Behind the colors that you fly
Love just one nation
And the whole world we divide

You won’t say you’re “sorry”
“There is no other choice”
God bless the people them
Who cannot raise their voice

We can chase down all our enemies
Bring them to their knees
We can bomb the world to pieces
But we can’t bomb it into peace

Power to the peaceful
Love to the peaceful
.

=

[God’s] love to the peaceful.

Blessed are the peacemakers
for they shall be called the children of God.”

=

God resists the proud [Americans],
but GIVES GRACE to the humble.”

or have us bomb?

Tell me President tell if you will
How many people does a smart bomb kill?
How many of ’em do you think we got?
The General says we never miss a shot

And we never ever ever keep a body count
We killin’ so efficiently we can’t keep count
