RAND PAUL

The junior senator from Kentucky is the son of Ron Paul, the most principled of the modern statesman. Sadly, however, the younger Paul seems to think he can get farther ahead than his father by playing up to the establishment and changing the Republican agenda to become more amenable to the growing benefit-corrupted majority. He unwisely endorsed Mitch McConnell over the much more conservative challenger Matt Bevin and got nothing in return.

Still, he does stand up and fight for the right causes on most occasions. Like Ted Cruz, Paul does not shy away from directly challenging the establishment when necessary. Both have filibustered to keep gun restrictions at bay and Paul has done a lot to try and stop the renewal of the Patriot act and block NSA domestic spying.

But of all the true conservative/libertarian candidates on the Right, Paul has some formidable obstacles to a successful campaign. In fact, there is significant evidence that his campaign is in disarray due to staff differences and lack of money. As Politico.com noted,

Senator Paul has raised significantly less than most major candidates, pulling in $6.9 million, including a $1.6 million transfer from his Senate committee. Affiliated super PACs have raised only $5 million. Meanwhile, Jeb Bush’s super PAC has raised $103 million, and Ted Cruz’s got over $37 million. By comparison, in the last two quarters of 2007, Ron Paul, who had literally zero percent name ID in early internal analyses, raised $25.2 million,

Ron Paul achieved that by a grass roots appeal to small donors. Rand could do that too if he’d take a more principled approach and stop compromising. That’s why his father’s followers are so loyal.

Dr. Paul also has some serious distractions with family problems. His wife reportedly is not supportive of his run for the president and much of that is due to a single problem son. As the Wonkette.com wrote,

Rand Paul’s son, Young Master William Hilton Heir of Rand And Ron Paul, has a bit of a problem. He just can’t stop getting drunk when he is not supposed to. Like, when he is underage. Or driving a vehicle… According to the citation, Lexington police found Paul at 11:24 a.m. sitting in the driver’s seat of a maroon 2006 Honda Ridgeline that had collided with a parked vehicle. The report said Paul was “belligerent” and had “a strong odor of alcohol,” bloodshot eyes and slurred speech… Paul was charged at the hospital with DUI and failure to maintain required auto insurance. Why are we being so mean to Rand Paul’s dumb 22-year-old kid? It’s not just because he is majoring in “communications.” No, it’s because this is his THIRD TIME getting in trouble for unlawful boozing — before noon! — and being a jerk.

Inexcusably, Rand Paul failed to respond to an invitation to speak at my brother’s huge Freedom Fest convention in Las Vegas last week. Marco Rubio showed and so did Donald Trump to a packed audience of 2800 people. Every network camera was rolling to film more outlandish statements by Trump so they can have ammunition to bash the conservative position.

These kinds of campaign failures are hurting Sen. Paul in the polls—and the establishment would love to see Paul ousted from the debates. In the latest NBC News/Marist poll, Paul’s support in New Hampshire has declined from 14% to 4%. If that trend continues, he’ll be out of the running soon.

Despite some compromises disappointing to hard line conservatives, Rand Paul is still very much a future force to be reckoned with now that the PTB are pushing liberals like Jeb Bush and Chris Christie. Rand Paul and Ted Cruz are the ones the establishment is out to beat.

SUMMARY:

Sadly, there are no uncompromising Ron Paul’s in the lineup this election season. While even the uncontrolled Republican candidates have their weak points (all except Rand Paul indirectly support the globalist policies of intervention), the establishment is sufficiently concerned about Cruz and Paul to pull out all the stops to see they don’t achieve the nomination. Still, it isn’t enough for me to support any of them. I don’t have confidence in any significant change unless a president-elect understands the globalist conspiracy we are up against.

It’s Official: Rand Gets the Least Debate Time, Trump Gets the Most

By Antelmann22 on Thu, 08/06/2015 – 21:29

Surprised? Donald Trump got the most airtime in the top-tier debate, racking up more than 10 1/2 minutes in total. Jeb Bush was in second, with less than nine minutes.

Those two dominated time in the debate, with no one else passing more than seven minutes in air time.

Rand Paul, perhaps the feistiest candidate on the stage — picking fights with Trump and Chris Christie — ended up with the least airtime, at around five minutes. He and Scott Walker were the only candidates who didn’t get more than six minutes throughout the night.

CHRISTIE WANTS AMERICANS TO BLAME RAND PAUL FOR TERROR ATTACKS THAT HAVEN’T HAPPENED YET

Suggests Paul should be hauled before Congress

by STEVE WATSON | INFOWARS | JULY 6, 2015

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (R) slammed fellow presidential candidate Rand Paul Monday, stating that if there is another terrorist attack on US soil, everyone should blame Paul because he has “made the country weaker.”

“What Rand Paul has done to make the country weaker and more vulnerable is a terrible thing,” Christie told Morning Joe viewers. Christie specifically cited Paul’s stance against NSA surveillance, and his battle against the renewal of the Patriot Act last month….

Christie also spent most of Sunday attacking Paul. He appeared on Fox News, defended the NSA’s bulk surveillance program, and again said that Paul’s attempts to rein in the agency have made US national security weaker. …

This is not the first time Christie has attacked Paul for his constitutional principles.

In 2013, Christie described Paul’s “strain of libertarianism” as “dangerous,” also claiming that the debate over the NSA was “esoteric.”

Paul’s replied by suggesting that Christie was out of touch with Americans.

“If Gov. Christie believes the constitutional rights and the privacy of all Americans is ‘esoteric’, he either needs a new dictionary, or he needs to talk to more Americans, because a great number of them are concerned about the dramatic overreach of our government in recent years,” a statement released by Paul’s office said at the time.

Paul was recently lambasted by the mainstream media for suggesting that his rivals want to see a terror attack occur so that he can be blamed.

Fox News continues to blackout Rand Paul in their poll coverage

Nick Morpus
Posted on May 28, 2015

Once again, Fox News forgot to include Sen. Rand Paul in their coverage of a new 2016 presidential poll, even though the senator outperformed other candidates mentioned and the survey cited made Paul a significant part of their original headline.

Quinnipiac released a poll today featuring the headline “Five Leaders In 2016 Republican White House Race, Quinnipiac University National Poll Finds; Rubio, Paul Are Only Republicans Even Close To Clinton.” Yet in Fox News’ coverage, Paul apparently didn’t register enough to justify being shown on the broadcast of the poll.

Paul

In the poll, Rand Paul polled at 7 percent, ahead of Sen. Ted Cruz who received 6 percent.

But Cruz was featured in Fox News’ coverage of the poll.

Instead of mentioning Rand Paul’s competitiveness against Hillary Clinton (Paul and Rubio paired better against the former Secretary of State than any other Republicans), Fox left Paul’s name out to focus on lower-tier performers Donald Trump and John Kasich.

MSNBC covered the same Quinnipiac poll on Thursday, but included the full top seven performers….

For those who are unfamiliar with this tendency of pretending Paul does not exist in Fox News’ poll coverage, two weeks ago, the news channel conducted an in-house poll that pitted 2016 Republican hopefuls against Hillary Clinton. Somehow in their quest for numbers to crunch, the news agency failed to ask poll participants their opinions on a Paul v. Clinton match-up and left him off of their poll completely.

Despite this Fox News survey blackout, Paul polled significantly high against Hillary Clinton in states such as New Hampshire, Colorado, and Iowa.

In early May, Fox News put Paul’s name last, although he was the highest polling candidate among the four featured.

Skousen: Patriot Act Expires, Spying Continues — The USA Freedom act is thus a masterful ploy to defuse growing public opposition to government domestic spying and make them think real reform is taking place. Let me walk you through the deception.

A federal court ruled that Section 215 of the Patriot Act did not authorize bulk data collection, whereas the Freedom Act contains provisions to actually give the government that authority. …

Note that the so-called USA Freedom Act only addresses phone data collection and leaves untouched all the email data collection which is total. It also doesn’t address the total tracking of internet activity.

PATRIOT ACT EXPIRES, SPYING CONTINUES

The media dutifully parroted the government claim this week that the NSA was dismantling whole spy buildings in compliance with the expiration of the PATRIOT Act, but there is no evidence of this whatsoever. Stopping domestic spying has never been an option for the NSA, and it will never stop. In fact, domestic spying is not about finding terrorists but about tracking dissidents and anti-government activists and their followers in the USA. The USA Freedom Act, which supposedly limits government spying, is a ploy to make it appear as if the NSA is being severely limited. Public outrage will now subside thinking that domestic spying is now restricted. It is not and that is why this “reform” bill was allowed to pass and why Obama will quickly sign it into law.

The NY Times gave an interesting commentary on the behind-the-scenes acrimony and maneuvers between government shills like Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky) and his fellow Kentucky Senator, Rand Paul who is sincerely trying to stop government spying. The Times has subsequently published several pieces taking potshots at Paul—who is clearly the one they must not allow to be the GOP nominee for president:

The expiration of three key provisions of the Patriot Act means that, for now, the N.S.A. will no longer collect newly created logs of Americans’ phone calls in bulk. It also means that the F.B.I. cannot invoke the Patriot Act to obtain, for new investigations, wiretap orders that follow a suspect who changes phones, wiretap orders for a “lone wolf” terrorism suspect not linked to a group, or court orders to obtain business records relevant to an investigation.

However, the Justice Department may invoke a so-called grandfather clause to keep using those powers for investigations that had started before June 1, and there are additional workarounds investigators may use to overcome the lapse in the authorizations. [The government will always find some loophole or procedure to keep justifying what they want to do.]

Mr. McConnell and other national security hawks who failed to continue the program badly underestimated the shift in the national mood, [first time the Times has admitted that] which has found its voice with Democrats and the libertarian wing of the Republican Party. The moment also put him at odds with Mr. Paul, whom he has endorsed for president. [Only because Paul endorsed McConnell for re-election with an expectation for a quid pro quo.

Mr. Paul’s effort [to block the PATRIOT Act extension] clearly angered many of his Republican colleagues, who met without him an hour before the Senate began to vote Sunday night. Senator John McCain, Republican of Arizona [a neocon warmonger], who sparred with Mr. Paul on the floor over procedure, said later that Mr. Paul was not fit for the White House job he seeks. “I’ve said on many occasions that I believe he would be the worst candidate we could put forward,” he said.

Even as senators were trickling into the Capitol from the airport, Mr. McConnell attempted to extend some aspects of the law. He asked senators to consider a two-week continuation of the federal authority to track a “lone wolf” terrorism suspect not connected to a state sponsor and to conduct “roving” surveillance of a suspect, rather than of a phone number alone, to combat terrorists who frequently discard cellphones [the phony justifications go on and on].

But Mr. Paul objected, and Mr. McConnell denounced from the Senate floor what he called “a campaign of demagoguery and disinformation” about the program.

Many are celebrating the demise of the PATRIOT Act and its replacement with the USA Freedom Act, thinking that the establishment was defeated and only reluctantly accepted the Freedom Act. This comment by Philippe Gastonne is typical:

Almost everything the president says about the USA Freedom Act is false. He does not at all “welcome” the law’s passage. If Obama had his way, Congress would have never even considered this law because the National Security Agency’s illegal activities would still be secret.

He’s wrong about Obama not welcoming the passage of the Freedom Act. Obama will sign it because it actually authorizes spying in a more direct way than the PATRIOT Act ever did. And its requirements that the NSA access the now privately collected data via FISA court warrants are simply a fig leaf of token compliance. For years the secret FISA court has gone through the motions of authorizing a few thousand warrants for the NSA each year, all the while knowing that the NSA was spying on everything and everyone. The warrants are there to give lip service to the constitution’s fourth amendment, while covering for massive violations in secret.

The USA Freedom act is thus a masterful ploy to defuse growing public opposition to government domestic spying and make them think real reform is taking place. Let me walk you through the deception.

The government had long contended that Section 215 of the PATRIOT ACT authorized domestic telephone data collection. It did not and that is why they also maintained that their interpretation of the section was secret, and that the public wasn’t entitled to know. The Electronic Freedom Foundation (EFF) explains how this came unraveled.

EFF sued the Department of Justice (DOJ) on the 10th anniversary of the signing of the USA PATRIOT Act in October 2011 for answers about “secret interpretations” of a controversial section of the law. In June 2013, a leaked FISA court order publicly revealed that “secret interpretation”: the government was using Section 215 of the Patriot Act to collect the phone records of virtually every person in the United States.

Prior to the revelations, several senators warned that the DOJ was using Section 215 of the PATRIOT Act to support what government attorneys called a “sensitive collection program,” targeting large numbers of Americans. The language of Section 215 allows for secret court orders to collect “tangible things” that could be relevant to a government investigation – a far lower threshold and more expansive reach than a warrant based on probable cause. The list of possible “tangible things” the government can obtain is seemingly limitless, and could include everything from driver’s license records to Internet browsing patterns.

In response to a court order in our lawsuit, in September 2013, the government released hundreds of pages of previously secret FISA documents detailing the court’s interpretation of Section 215, including an opinion excoriating the NSA for misusing its mass surveillance database for years. In October 2013, the government released a second batch of documents related to Section 215, which showed, among other things, that the NSA had collected cell site location without notifying its oversight committees in Congress or the FISA court.

Now that their legal standing was undermined, the PTB had to concoct a strategy to change it that was a similar to the ploy used to establish the Federal Reserve. The original FED legislation was designed by powerful banking forces, who then pretended to oppose it so that the public with their anti-banking sentiment would be fooled into backing what the banks opposed.

In like manner Obama and the government falsely pretended that they were adamant that the PATRIOT Act provisions needed to be extended past last Monday’s sunset clause deadline. Rand Paul’s filibuster of the Patriot Act extension was sincere but he unknowingly played into their hands. It seemed strange to me that Paul’s filibuster ended because he didn’t have the votes to sustain it and yet the establishment then failed to find the votes to extend the PATRIOT Act.

Something was wrong with this picture. The establishment could have rounded up the votes to extend the act, but allowed it to expire instead. Then the press went to work promoting this new reform bill that would supposedly bow to public pressure and restrict the NSA. It sounded too good to be true, and it was. The US has billions of dollars in equipment all around the world tapping into every cable, fiber, microwave and satellite transmission network around the world. Those that believe these tentacles are being dismantled are woefully naive. The Washington Post wrote,

On Tuesday, a bipartisan group of lawmakers introduced a bill aimed at blocking the National Security Agency from collecting the phone records of millions of Americans. The effort was described by its sponsors as a balanced approach that would ensure the NSA maintains an ability to obtain the data it needs to detect terrorist plots without infringing on Americans’ right to privacy.

Congress failed to advance similar legislation last year, and some officials say the agency should not face new constraints at a time of deep concern over the threat from terrorist groups such as the Islamic State

Actually, the reason “similar” legislation did not advance last year is that the original bill outright prohibited spying directly or via the phone companies. The Freedom Act’s supposed “balanced” approach leaves the door wide open to spying. It pretends to limit NSA spying, but really authorizes it openly—which had never been done before. Ron Paul agrees

Passing the Freedom Act did not reform government snooping, so much as it made it legitimate, according to three-time presidential candidate Ron Paul. He asserts that Democrats and Republicans alike seek to reduce liberty for a promise of security.

“One thing in Washington, when they have the ‘reform’ of something, you cannot trust them, because reform usually means they’re making things a lot worse,” Ron Paul told Larry King on Politicking, Tuesday evening. “I think the reform act is a very, very dangerous thing. It’s not a slight improvement, as some people argue.”

The Freedom Act, adopted by the Senate on Tuesday and quickly signed by President Obama, actually makes the situation worse, Paul argued. A federal court ruled that Section 215 of the Patriot Act did not authorize bulk data collection, whereas the Freedom Act contains provisions to actually give the government that authority.

“That’s why a lot of people are voting for the reform act,” Paul said. “But actually it’s making things worse. Because the first thing is, it’s making government a partner with Big Business, so Verizon and AT&T are doing the government’s work. I don’t like that, I don’t like the mixture.”

Ever since WWII, Bell Telephone was allowing warrantless phone tapping by the government, though this pales in comparison with today’s total surveillance. Actually the big phone companies have always been in bed with government—this just makes it official. Electronic Frontier Foundation Executive Director Cindy Cohn said that the major American telecommunications companies will continue to cooperate eagerly with the US government and carry out its wishes just as during the past 14 years. “[Verizon and AT&T] have demonstrated that they are willing to cooperate with the US government

The US phone and Internet providing corporations “do not have an obligation… to serve as an intelligence arm of the government,” the EFF Director said. “Most of these companies keep this information for at least 18 months,” she added. Cohn also said that the American public is kept in the dark about their rights to privacy and protection from surveillance because the US government refuses to inform them.

Only Qwest Telephone Company objected to NSA spying on its equipment in the beginning and the government made an example of its CEO, Joseph P. Nacchio, for his refusal to give customer data to the National Security Agency. He was convicted of trumped up charges of insider trading in Qwest stock on April 19, 2007. Since then there has been little opposition by telecommunication executives.

Note that the so-called USA Freedom Act only addresses phone data collection and leaves untouched all the email data collection which is total. It also doesn’t address the total tracking of internet activity. Documents leaked by Edward Snowden in response to the passage of the phony reform bill show that the US government has been doing warrantless surveillance of Americans’ Internet traffic for years.

But one of the most important issues here has hardly been addressed—the fact that Congress cannot authorize that which is unconstitutional. All warrantless spying is a violation of the 4th Amendment. Law professor Orin Kerr explains:

Don’t overlook one key feature of surveillance reform and the passage of the USA Freedom Act: It came from legislation, not the Fourth Amendment. A court had wrongly allowed the bulk surveillance program that Congress had not actually authorized. When the public became aware of the program, Congress restricted the program by passing a new law.

Note what wasn’t a significant influence on the reform: the Fourth Amendment. All but one of the judges who ruled on the issue concluded that the Fourth Amendment wasn’t implicated by the bulk telephony metadata law. In the one case where a judge ruled that the prior program violated the Fourth Amendment, that court stayed the ruling on appeal and the court of appeals on review seemed pretty skeptical about the ruling at oral argument.

The USA Freedom Act is a legislative reform. Given how surveillance debates so often focus on the role of the Fourth Amendment and the courts, it’s worth flagging that the reforms here came from Congress.

That speaks volumes about how little Congress thinks about the restrictions of the Constitution. The courts, which have a duty to enforce the constitution, are also controlled by powerful forces beyond government and refuse to do so.

(video) Rand Paul: NSA Can Collect CONTENT, Not Just Metadata – Executive Order 12333 — Filibuster Hour 2

Rand Paul on Senate Floor, May 20th, 2015:

“John Napier Tye goes on to warn us. He says… Executive Order 12333 [signed by Ronald Reagan in 1981] authorizes collection of the content of communications, not just metadata. Even for U.S. Citizens. …we were told for years don’t worry, they’re not collecting your data, they’re just collecting the data of foreigners. Turns out that wasn’t true.”

Hour 2: Sen. Rand Paul’s Filibuster on PATRIOT Act Extension – May 20, 2015
Senator Rand Paul

“John Napier Tye goes on to warn us. He says unlike section 215 [of the Patriot Act], Executive Order 12333 [signed by Ronald Reagan in 1981] authorizes collection of the content of communications, not just metadata. Even for U.S. Citizens. So quite often we’re told that — we were told for years don’t worry, they’re not collecting your data, they’re just collecting the data of foreigners. Turns out that wasn’t true.

Now the big thing they tell us is, well, we’re not collecting the content, we’re just collecting the numbers. But when you read John Napier Tye, the Executive Order authorizes the content of the communications as well, not just metadata and also for U.S. persons. So the question is, if we get rid of pulling collection will the executive continue to do it anyway? The other question is, why doesn’t the Executive stop this? It was started by Executive Action, it could be ended by Executive Action at any time.”

I’ve actually watched most of this over 10 hour filibuster, so far (who knows how long it will last). Rand has been amazingly staying on topic all this time, and about a dozen other senators have chimed in too, more Democrats than Republicans, surprisingly. Ted Cruz is currently speaking, while Rand can’t sit down or go to the bathroom.
I doubt if they’ll get the NSA to stop bulk collecting everyone’s data, but they must try. This is a huge blackmail tool, that is destroying America, illegally.
Praise God for the men of integrity we still do have!

Rand Paul: Some 'Christians' are "Too Eager for War" — "Jesus stood up in a different sort of way … 'Blessed are the peacemakers' not 'blessed are the war-makers'"

Rand Paul: Republicans Are “Too Eager for War”

—By David Corn | Fri Jun. 27, 2014

It was only a year ago that Paul described the Republican Party as overly enthusiastic for war. During a little-noticed interview with the Christian Broadcast Network, Paul remarked, “Part of Republicans’ problems—and frankly, to tell you the truth, some in the evangelical Christian movement—I think [they] have appeared too eager for war.” This was a stark assessment of his own party.

Paul went further, noting that these Republicans and evangelicals were not in sync with Jesus:

When people come to me and they’re lobbying for ratcheting up some sort of bellicose policy towards one country, even if it’s a bad country, I tell them that and when I read the New Testament, that when I read about Jesus, I don’t see him involved, he wasn’t really involved with the wars of his days.  And, in fact, people rebuked him for not being [what] they wanted. They wanted somebody to stand up to the Romans. He stood up in a different sort of way, but he didn’t organize coalitions and guerrilla bands and arm them. Now I’m not saying that you shouldn’t have people who want to defend against evil, bad forces around the world, but I think you need to remember that he was the prince of peace, you know, we’re talking about “blessed are the peacemakers,” not “blessed are the war-makers.”

RAND PAUL: JOHN MCCAIN WANTS ANOTHER 15 WARS — "If I'm ever commander-in-chief, I will not want to take the country to war"

From Infowars:

RAND PAUL: JOHN MCCAIN WANTS ANOTHER 15 WARS
“If I’m ever commander-in-chief, I will not want to take the country to war”

by STEVE WATSON | INFOWARS.COM | DECEMBER 3, 2014

As he announced his intention to run for reelection in the Senate, Rand Paul declared he will run for “less war”, distancing himself from the traditional Republican foreign policy platform by adding that his colleague John McCain wishes to see the US involved in wars with 15 more countries.

Appearing at a Wall Street Journal sponsored event, Paul described himself as “one of the least reluctant to go to war” in the Senate.

“If I’m ever commander-in-chief, I will not want to take the country to war,” the Kentucky Republican added, saying “It will be the last resort and only when the country is united.”

Sen. Rand Paul: My filibuster was just the beginning

From: Infowars

Sen. Rand Paul: My filibuster was just the beginning

Senator Rand Paul
Infowars.com
March 9, 2013

Rand Paul, a Republican, is a U.S. senator from Kentucky.

If I had planned to speak for 13 hours when I took the Senate floor Wednesday, I would’ve worn more comfortable shoes. I started my filibuster with the words, “I rise today to begin to filibuster John Brennan’s nomination for the CIA. I will speak until I can no longer speak” — and I meant it.

I wanted to sound an alarm bell from coast to coast. I wanted everybody to know that our Constitution is precious and that no American should be killed by a drone without first being charged with a crime. As Americans, we have fought long and hard for the Bill of Rights. The idea that no person shall be held without due process, and that no person shall be held for a capital offense without being indicted, is a founding American principle and a basic right.

My official starting time was 11:47 a.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2013.

I had a large binder of materials to help me get through my points, but although I sometimes read an op-ed or prepared remarks in between my thoughts, most of my filibuster was off the top of my head and straight from my heart. From 1 to 2 p.m., I barely looked at my notes. I wanted to make sure that I touched every point and fully explained why I was demanding more information from the White House.

Just before 3 p.m., Sens. Mike Lee (R-Utah) and Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) came to the Senate floor to help out. Under Senate rules, I could not yield the floor or my filibuster would end, and Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) could have shut me down. The only way for me to continue and allow Sens. Lee and Cruz to speak was to yield the floor for questions.

Their presence gave me strength and inspiration. Sen. Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) also arrived to help. Sen. Ron Wyden (Ore.), the only Democrat who came to my defense, explained how we have worked together to demand more information from the White House about the rules for drone strikes. At about 4:30 p.m., Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) joined. I was flagging for a while, but these senators kept me going.

Sen. Reid came to the Senate floor to ask me when I would be done so he could schedule a vote. But I wasn’t ready to yield. I felt I had a lot more explaining to do.

At about 6:30 p.m., something extraordinary happened. Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.), who has been recovering from a stroke, came to the floor to give me something. I was not allowed to drink anything but water or eat anything but the candy left in our Senate desks. But he brought me an apple and a thermos full of tea — the same sustenance Jimmy Stewart brought to the Senate floor in the movie “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.” That was a moment I will never forget.

Sen. Cruz came to the floor again just before 7:30 p.m. and said, “Given that the Senate rules do not allow for the use of cellular phones on the floor of the Senate, I feel quite confident that the senator from Kentucky is not aware of the Twitter-verse that has been exploding.”

I had little idea of what was going on. I was allowed only to talk and listen to questions. As I started to walk around the Senate chamber to loosen up my legs, I was energized by the responses on Twitter. Sen. Cruz really lifted my spirits when he read the tweets.

Then something unexpected happened. House conservatives started appearing in the back of the chamber to show their support. Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Tex.), who stayed for five hours, offered me his boots when I complained that I had not worn my most comfortable shoes. My good friend Rep. Thomas Massie from Kentucky came over. And then came the conservative cavalry of Reps. Justin Amash (Mich.), Ron DeSantis (Fla.), Doug LaMalfa (Calif.), Garland “Andy” Barr (Ky.), Trey Radel (Fla.), Michael Burgess (Tex.), Jim Bridenstine (Okla.), Raul R. Labrador (Idaho), Keith Rothfus (Pa.), Paul Gosar (Ariz.), Steve Daines (Mont.), Bill Huizenga (Mich.), Richard Hudson (N.C.) and David Schweikert (Ariz.).

Over the evening I had the support of Republican Sens. John Barrasso (Wyo.), Mitch McConnell (Ky.), Saxby Chambliss (Ga.), John Cornyn (Tex.), John Thune (S.D.), Pat Toomey (Pa.) and Ron Johnson (Wis.). And Sens. Cruz, Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) and Tim Scott (R-S.C.) used the opportunity to make their first speaking appearances on the Senate floor. Sen. Angus King (I-Maine) came at the end to speak, but after midnight, I had said enough.

By the end of the night, I was tired and my voice was cracking. I ended by saying, “The cause here is one that I think is important enough to have gone through this procedure.” I talked about the idea of compromise, but said that “you don’t get half of the Fifth Amendment.” I argued that we need more extended debates. And finally, at 12:40 a.m., I yielded the floor.

On Thursday, the Senate confirmed John Brennanas director of the CIA. But this debate isn’t over.

The Senate has the power to restrain the executive branch — and my filibuster was the beginning of the fight to restore a healthy balance of powers. The president still needs to definitively say that the United States will not kill American noncombatants. The Constitution’s Fifth Amendment applies to all Americans; there are no exceptions.

The outpouring of support for my filibuster has been overwhelming and heartening. My office has fielded thousands of calls. Millions have followed this debate on TV, Twitter and Facebook. On Thursday, the White House produced another letter explaining its position on drone strikes. But the administration took too long, and parsed too many words and phrases, to instill confidence in its willingness or ability to protect our liberty.

I hope my efforts help spur a national debate about the limits of executive power and the scope of every American’s natural right to be free. “Due process” is not just a phrase that can be ignored at the whim of the president; it is a right that belongs to every citizen in this great nation.

I believe the support I received this past week shows that Americans are looking for someone to really stand up and fight for them. And I’m prepared to do just that.

Rand Paul Backs Away from Romney’s Neocon Foreign Policy

On Wednesday, Kentucky senator Rand Paul issued a scathing criticism of Mitt Romney’s foreign policy speech delivered earlier in the week.
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PR_cGJyRbY]
In August, Paul came out in support of the Republican presidential candidate much to the dismay of his father’s supporters and others who saw him as inheriting Ron Paul’s political mantle.
“Romney chose to criticize President Obama for seeking to cut a bloated Defense Department and for not being bellicose enough in the Middle East, two assertions with which I cannot agree,” Paul said. “In North Africa and the Middle East, our problem has not been a lack of intervention. In the past 10 years we have fought two full wars there, and bombed or sent troops into several others.”
Paul characterized the war with Libya last year as illegal and said the president must consult Congress prior to any military action. “No president, Republican or Democrat, has the unilateral power to take our nation to war without the authority of the legislature,” he said.
The son of Texas congressman Ron Paul came out against military action by the United States in Syria. “I do not… support a call for intervention in Syria. And, if such intervention were being contemplated, it is absolutely necessary that Congress give any such authority to the president.”
“We owe it to ourselves, our soldiers and our children to take a more careful look at our foreign policy, to not rush into war, and to not attempt to score political points with wrongheaded policy ideas,” Paul concluded.
Romney’s foreign policy team is a remix of Bush’s neocons. Fifteen of the 22 members of Romney’s team were policy advisers under the Bush administration and six are former members of PNAC. More than 70 percent of Romney’s foreign policy advisers worked for the Bush administration.
“Veterans of George W. Bush’s administration pepper the team, including Cofer Black, a former CIA official and executive at the controversial private-security firm Blackwater USA. Also on the list: Eliot Cohen, who worked in the State Department under Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and Paula Dobriansky, who served in both Democratic and Republican administrations, including as undersecretary for democracy and global affairs in the Bush years,” the Wall Street Jounral wrote in July.
“Romney’s malleability is an advantage for his neocon advisers, giving them an opportunity to shape his worldview, as they did with Bush after 9/11,” writes Ari Berman, who has covered the neocons and their agenda extensively. “Four years after Bush left office in disgrace, Romney is their best shot to get back in power. If that happens, they’re likely to pursue the same aggressive policies they advocated under Bush,” including taking out Syria and Iran.

Joel Skousen: Is there a path to winning back America? No, I think we’ve past the point of no return — “Religion is not leading to righteousness … this callous disregard for the ‘still small voice’ leads to bigger problems and worse decisions”

WHERE DOES THE RON PAUL MOVEMENT GO FROM HERE?

[…]

Is there a path to winning back America as a nation? No, I think we’ve past the point of no return. I’ve been in this battle all my adult life, and here are my conclusions that preclude winning back the entire nation:
1) The people are no longer worthy of liberty. Americans as a whole are soft, materialistic and too content with life to fight, let alone recognize the loss of liberty. As long as they are allowed to go to church and buy what they want, they think they are free. But the noose is tightening. The youth are even softer, so the trend is in the wrong direction. Americans may still consider themselves a religious people, but religion, for the most part, doesn’t change their little bad habits, so at some point their religion is not leading to righteousness. They stop listening to the refining voice of conscience. Religious people don’t even honor the Sabbath anymore. To the Lord, listening to the personal promptings of conscience is where the real test of religiosity lies and most Christians are chronic violators of conscience in the “little things” relative to weight control, nutrition, recreation choices, use of time and failure to discipline children. Trouble is, this callous disregard for the “still small voice” leads to bigger problems and worse decisions. That is why immorality and divorce are high even among church goers. There are notable exceptions, but in general America is getting more unworthy of being saved by God.
2) Americans are lazy about finding truth. Conservatives constantly claim that reforming the education system will turn things around, that American children are starved for good information. But there are two problems here:
A. The education monopoly by government precludes that kind of change. Ever get elected to a school board? If you do you’ll find that state laws prohibit you pointing the curriculum in any other way but that which “credentialed educators” insist you must go, and the establishment controls the credentials. Only complete privatization of education will give parents the freedom to choose—but the establishment isn’t going to let that happen and there are way too many conservatives who would hate to have to pay user fees for those expensive public schools should other non-users be rightfully exempt.
B. I went to public schools and could tell I wasn’t being told the truth about many things. I sensed that something was wrong and went elsewhere to find truth. Today, more than ever with the vast information on the web, the truth is out there (except for most of the deepest and darkest secrets of conspiracy), and if people don’t find it, something is wrong with them relative to the workings of conscience and self control. That’s my point. Far too many people have become immune to the faint warning signals that something is wrong, or if they do hear it, they are too busy searching for material welfare to care. That’s the main reason why this downward track isn’t solvable by external education
3) Good people who are aware are too few to win peacefully: Ever since I worked in Washington and had access to conservative polling data, I’ve realized we don’t have the numbers to win by majority rule. The benefit-corrupted who are on some form of government payment exceed 50% of US inhabitants. Not all of them vote Democratic, but there is a tendency to resist cuts that affects them.
Here are my estimates: Almost all people who are aware of the constitutional crisis have gravitated to the Ron Paul position. His supporters represent, at the most, about 20% of Republicans, but Republicans only represent about 40% of the nation. That means constitutional conservatives and libertarians only represent 8% of the nation.
That 8% is a pretty realistic number, but even if it’s 10% people are tempted to think that since we doubled our numbers in the past 4 years, we can do it again. Not so. Already, there is a distinct resistance when you push past the 10% mark. People aren’t interested. Romney Republicans are resistant to anything that isn’t mainstream.
On the upbeat side, I think that we could possibly get 30% of Republicans to come around if we had another Ron Paul. Rand Paul could certainly achieve those kinds of numbers, but that’s because he would soften his father’s positions. But even with those numbers Rand still wouldn’t win. The establishment won’t allow real change. They won’t allow anyone to get elected unless the make the kind of deep concessions Mitt Romney has, and even then they don’t like it.
4) The US can never pay off the debt or quit deficit spending: Deficit spending got us into this mess, and politicians can’t stop. They love deficit spending and so does the public because it shields them from the pain for paying for wars, foreign aid, education loans, bailouts, tax increases, welfare, and subsidies. Everything is painless until you’re bankrupt and we’re still at least a decade away from that. Rest assured, they’ll give us another world war before that comes due. That’s been their plan all along.
5) The Globalist Conspiracy is too strong to overthrow: They don’t have to have absolute control of everything—effective control is enough. They use a lot of “incentives” to control a vast network of hirelings (willing yes-men) around them who may not fully understand the nature of a conspiracy of power—but they will do their bidding, either out of ignorance, blind pro-government sentiments, promises of advancement, money, or threats. And, don’t forget about immunity—that promise that is ever present when they enter dark side activities, after first having proven that they have sufficient sins to be blackmailed.
How would a Ron Paul survive even if elected? The Secret Service was integral to the killing of Pres. Kennedy. The FBI and CIA both covered up and hired the mafia/CIA hitmen that did the job. There is a dark side of the other federal agencies as well—the DEA, INS, DHS, IRS and even the military. How could an honest president even begin to penetrate, let alone clean out those nests of criminals when they control all the surveillance machinery. How would you gather evidence on them if those on the inside denied it to you? You can’t even think about mounting a good old “Revolutionary War” in today’s age of Big Brother and his All-Seeing Eye.
As for legislative or judicial protection (the so-called separation of powers), I estimate that the government has culpable files on about 75-80% of members of Congress, almost all Police Chiefs in major cities, and most higher judges in the nation, all the way to the Supreme Court. They look for dirt on anyone who starts to rise in the political arena and use those files to control them. Ever wonder why judges almost always back government power, or even abusive police in the face of citizen complaints?
6) States have become corrupt too: It is only partially true that state and local governments are easier to reform than the federal government. All state governments have corruption problems and some states like California, Illinois and New York have corruption machines that rival the mafia. Most large cities are also totally corrupt inside. That said, some states are clearly less corrupt than others, but there is an establishment good ‘old boy network, closely allied with the liberal press in every major city that works together to make sure than no Ron Paul or free market revolutionary gains control. When they do by political fluke (think Evan Mecham, governor of Arizona—a Cleon Skousen trained constitutionalist), the media lies in wait until they make a verbal gaffe and then they run him out of town with a recall election. Scott Walker beat them in Wisconsin, but that was an exception, and he wasn’t really threatening to clean the whole house. Don’t expect that exception to become the rule.
What about the God is in Control argument? Optimistic Christian conservatives always throw out the argument that “God is in Control” and so we don’t have to worry. He has the power to change things. As a believer, I agree. He does have the power. But the real question is will He intervene to save us? And, is America worthy of being saved by God? I don’t think so anymore. That doesn’t mean all is lost for everyone, but it does point to us heading for a great period of tribulation and the loss of liberty at the national level as it morphs into the NWO.
I’m a religious person, and keep my eyes open constantly searching for signs that God is intervening as he did in the nation’s founding—allowing a set of leaders to rise to positions of influence where they can turn the tide, or even allowing major financing to come to principled people so they can bypass the establishment media, or schools, and fund a national movement to renew America. Nothing has happened. The big money only goes to ineffective or mainstream causes. We do have ample numbers of great thinkers with ideals and principles as profound as America’s founders, but none have been allowed to rise in power. Ron Paul got the closest.
Those ministers who have achieved great wealth and fame in televangelism have done so by singing the easy gospel that people want to hear. Those that have been granted access to the White House prayer breakfast meetings during the Bush administration were those who refused to speak up or criticize the big government or war agenda. All the real champions of freedom have been left on the sidelines. Ron Paul is the only one to even get close to a run at the presidency and he has been shut down—but not without building the movement. I’ve seen God’s hand helping to gather the remnant, but no indications of any real optimism toward beating the mammoth evil that is growing even faster than the Liberty movement.
Mitt Romney, though religious, is not the political savior Christians are looking for. He may think God has helped him along the way, but the only way he has gotten this far is by surrounding himself by minions of the devil’s neocon camp. I guarantee you that Mitt Romney, if elected, will be a great disappointment to conservatives. All the good things he proposes will go down in defeat. He will not be allowed to put forth any real constitutionalists for the Supreme Court. They will be blocked in the Senate, and like Reagan, he will finally give in and nominate those the establishment agrees to. He will not overturn abortion. Obamacare will not be shut down.
Remember, to have faith in the salvation of the nation as a whole, the people have to be worthy and I think it has to be more than a mere 10%. God might have spared one corrupt city in Old Testament times if Abraham could find but 10 righteous men, but even had he found 10, sparing a city is a far cry from restoring a nation to full blown liberty. That can’t be done without the full reform of a majority of the people. Considering the overwhelming moral evil in our nation that burdens the Lord’s sense of justice, I think He is bound to let the sword of justice fall. You can’t just manufacture specific faith in a proposed event by hope only or wishful thinking. For specific faith in a hoped for event to be valid, you have to have the spiritual confirmation that it is the Lord’s will, and that must come from God and not rosy-eyed optimism. While the Lord might certainly want the nation to be saved, God himself cannot arbitrarily disregard the decree of justice upon which the universe operates. Only upon terms of repentance and change of heart can condemnation be averted, and I don’t see that happening. I’m keeping an open heart and mind that it might, but the signs aren’t good.
Conclusion: All is not lost even if we don’t have the numbers to win politically. We can still fight for liberty to gain a minority foothold within the nation–a resistance movement, if you will, even if we can’t win back the whole. But when you are dealing with a minority of good people, to exercise any power at all, you have to congregate together so that you have a majority in a region or local area. Our greatest problem in a losing battle of attrition is that we are spread out uniformly across the nation—dispersed in a sea of humanity where none of us constitute a majority.
All efforts to get people to relocate to a Free State (FreeStateProject.org) have been relatively unsuccessful. Their chosen state, New Hampshire, isn’t the best place and it isn’t welcoming the “takeover” that is viewed as a threat to the establishment of that state. There is also the a constant fear among adherents that “times are too difficult economically” for people to pick up and start over in a new location. And that is probably true for most. But it won’t be any easier when we are forced to flee to safer places due to war and economic collapse (which won’t come until war, in my opinion).
If there is any hope for liberty it will be because pockets of liberty and resistance form during the next war when government itself is busy saving itself and not targeting freedom-loving dissidents–yet. I think you’ll see the time, when crisis comes that the social unrest will drive people out of their current places and the Lord will inspire those who can listen to go to places of refuge where other like-minded people are also gathering. Some will be inspired to go to safe places before the crisis, and if you are one of those, heed the promptings. We still have perhaps a decade before the worst comes upon us, so despite all the rumors of collapse, you still have time to make an informed move.

U.S. Senator Rand Paul’s attempt to get her arrested and stripped of
her press credentials for asking him tough questions in the Capitol
building. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WtO5INu-VY4 A week after our video with Abby Martin came out on YouTube,
the RT office, where Abby works, got an ominous phone call from the
Senate Media Relations Committee. The Committee was acting on behalf
of Rand Paul and threatened both Abby and the entire RT news
organization. The threats included ambiguous “charges” for violating
the rules of the Committee floor, Abby’s possible arrest and the
termination of her and the entire office’s press credentials.

After a month of meetings and deliberation, the Senate Media Relations
