John Wooden recites a poem about aging, and the peace he has in seeing the Lord

Don’t Look Back
By John Wooden

The years have left their imprint
on my hands and on my face.
Erect no longer is my walk,
and slower is my pace.

But there is no fear within my heart
because I am growing old.
I only wish I had more time
to better serve my Lord.

When I have gone to Him in prayer,
He has brought me inner peace.
And soon my cares and worries
and other problems cease.

He’s helped me in so many ways;
He’s never let me down.
Why should I fear the future
when soon I could be near His crown?

Though I know down here
my time is short,
there’s endless time up there.
And He will forgive and keep me ever in His loving care.

John Wooden’s heavenly perspective: “I’d rather be unknown here and have my name up there.”

John Wooden redefines success:

“I coined my own definition of success

John Wooden on change we can believe in:

“Our tendency is to hope that things will turn out

but we don’t do the things that are necessary
to make those things become a reality.”

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0MM-psvqiG8]John Wooden: Coaching for people, not points

With profound simplicity, Coach John Wooden redefines success and urges us all to pursue the best in ourselves. In this inspiring talk he shares the advice he gave his players at UCLA, quotes poetry and remembers his father’s wisdom.

Two selections from the transcript:

I coined my own definition of success in nineteen hundred and thirty four, when I was teaching at a high school in South Bend, Indiana. Being a little bit disappointed, and delusioned perhaps by the way parents of the youngsters in my English classes expected their youngsters to get an A or a B. They thought a C was all right for the neighbors children, because the neighbors children are all average. But they weren’t satisfied when their own — would make the teacher feel that they had failed, or the youngster had failed. And that’s not right. The good lord in his infinite wisdom didn’t create us all equal as far as intelligence is concerned, any more than we’re equal for size, appearance. Not everybody could earn an A or a B, and I didn’t like that way of judging it.

I did know know how the alumni of various schools back in the ’30s judged coaches and athletic teams. If you won them all, you were considered to be reasonably successful. Not completely. Because I found out — we had a number of years at UCLA where we didn’t lose a game. But it seemed that we didn’t win each individual game by the margin that some of our alumni had predicted. And quite frequently I — (Laughter) — quite frequently I really felt that they had backed up their predictions in a more materialistic manner. But that was true back in the ’30s, so I understood that. But I didn’t like it. And I didn’t agree with it. And I wanted to come up with something that I hoped could make me a better teacher, and give the youngsters under my supervision — whether it be in athletics or in the English classroom — something to which to aspire, other than just a higher mark in the classroom, or more points in some athletic contest.

I thought about that for quite a spell, and I wanted to come up with my own definition. I thought that might help. And I knew how Mr. Webster defined it: as the accumulation of material possessions or the attainment of a position of power or prestige, or something of that sort. Worthy accomplishments perhaps, but in my opinion not necessarily indicative of success. So I wanted to come up with something of my own.

I recalled, I was raised on a small farm in Southern Indiana. And Dad tried to teach me and my brothers that you should never try to be better than someone else. I’m sure at the time he did that, I didn’t — it didn’t — well, somewhere, I guess in the hidden recesses of my mind, it popped out years later. Never try to be better than someone else, always learn from others. Never cease trying to be the best you can be — that’s under your control. If you get too engrossed and involved and concerned in regard to the things over which you have no control, it will adversely affect the things over which you have control. Then I ran across this simple verse that said, “At God’s footstool to confess, a poor soul knelt, and bowed his head. ‘I failed!’ He cried. The Master said, ‘Thou didst thy best, that is success.'”

From those things, and one other perhaps, I coined my own definition of success. Which is: peace of mind attained only through self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to do the best of which you’re capable. I believe that’s true. If you make the effort to to the best of which you’re capable, try and improve the situation that exists for you, I think that’s success. And I don’t think others can judge that. I think it’s like character and reputation. Your reputation is what you are perceived to be; your character is what you really are. And I think that character is much more important than what you are perceived to be. You’d hope they’d both be good. But they won’t necessarily be the same. Well, that was my idea that I was going to try to get across to the youngsters.

•••

I say to you, in whatever you’re doing, you must be patient . You have to have patience to — we want things to happen. We talk about our youth being impatient a lot. And they are. They want to change everything. They think all change is progress. And we get a little older — we sort of let things go. And we forget there is no progress without change. So you must have patience. And I believe that we must have faith. I believe that we must believe, truly believe. Not just give it word service; believe that things will work out as they should, providing we do what we should. I think our tendency is to hope that things will turn out the way we want them to , much of the time. But we don’t do the things that are necessary to make those things become reality.

Gordon Lightfoot: 43-minute interview. Gordon is Scottish — ‘Braveheart’! But now I know why I never liked his song, “Sundown,” which actually marked his own personal decline — and America’s — in that his seediest song was his biggest hit!

The Gordon Lightfoot album that preceded Sundown, Don Quixote, was and probably always will be my favorite Lightfoot Album. I still listen to it regularly. Though it’s not perfect, it inspires me towards adventure, towards the mountains, towards life!!!

I always wondered what happened to Gordon, whose earlier music was such a big influence on my life. He never seemed to recover. Now I know. So many have gone down this road and lost their dreams.

But what is this road — what Gordon called on Sundown the artificially (even via substance abuse) induced, make-believe Carefree Highway — a substitute for the real thing?

What happens when one accepts the Carefree Highway mindset without really being on the carefree highway?

And what happens when an entire country accepts the Carefree Highway mindset without really being on it?

But there is a true carefree highway — which we can experience now, and will be able to more fully ride on when ONE happens — when people are truly ONE with each other and God — being truly in Christ (John 17). “Then the world will know,” Jesus said.

This is the Carefree Highway. And this is what my spiritual site is all about: ONEcanhappen.wordpress.com.

May we all ride together!!!

By the way, there are still some songs on Sundown that I’ll always like, like “Seven Island Suite.” And I’ve always loved the album cover, which was inspired me to title this set of photos of myself by this same name:

Christian rock icon’s widow enlists Hollywood to tell the musician’s story

Nearly 30 years after Christian-rock pioneer Keith Green died in a plane crash, his widow and a Hollywood producer have teamed up to bring his story to the big screen in the hope of introducing a new generation to his music.

One of several Christian rock musicians who lived in the San Fernando Valley in the 1970s, Keith and his wife, Melody, wrote numerous hit songs, but also formed a seven-home community in Woodland Hills where they cared for people in need.

“The stuff he did was breaking all the rules,” said Melody, now an author, composer and speaker who leads Last Days Ministries out of Kansas City, Mo.

“He showed up in flip-flops, blue jeans and suspenders and really kind of revolutionized the music industry by giving away his music for free, loving God, really loving people and telling Christians, `Hey, we’ve got to do what we say we believe.”‘

Melody Green is working with producer Mike Leahy to make a movie version of her book “No Compromise: The Life Story of Keith Green.” …

They hope to start shooting later this year, and release the film in 2011.

“It’s just the kind of story that we want to put on film because it’s important, compelling and challenging,” Leahy said. “`No Compromise’ is a love story between a man and a woman and between a man and his creator.” …

Schwarzenegger Tells Leno He Still Wants to be President

Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Hitler loving former actor and California governator who likes to wear a Totenkopf belt buckle, told Jay Leno last night that if the states passed a constitutional amendment allowing foreign-born citizens to run for president, he’d throw his hat in the ring.

As far back as 2004, Schwarzenegger told “60 Minutes” he wished he could run. That same year, GOP Senator Orin Hatch of Utah, a Schwarzenegger ally, even introduced a constitutional amendment to try to make it possible.

In Memory of Fess Parker ‘Daniel Boone’ (August 16, 1924 – March 18, 2010)

I had the great privilege of watching Fess Parker play Daniel Boone during my early years. I was age 7 – 13 while it was on the air. I was even a member of the Daniel Boone club, which really wasn’t much of anything — but it was a big deal for me! We just got a plastic brown whistle and a few other things like a code book or something. I read books on this kind of thing too.

What a contrast to what boys watch on TV now.

[Fess] Parker’s Daniel Boone television series portraying another historic figure of America’s frontier days began filming in 1964. Over its six years (1964 to 1970) as one of the highest rated shows of its time, Parker was not only the star of the series but also the co-producer and director of five of its most popular episodes. Alex is in trouble! Has a lack of moral character split the main resistance to the one-world government? – Fmr. employee Jack Blood’s testimony

Alex Jones is in trouble, and it’s much worse than I had thought.

It looks like a lack of moral character has split the main resistance to the one-world government / New World Order — if this is even just mostly true.

It looks like most will just blame Alex, but it wasn’t just Alex. Along with the abuser/manipulator were the many enablers, who knew what was going on but didn’t stand up to him until now….

There is a war on for our minds and our country, but that doesn’t justify manipulative control over fellow humans. Nip it in the bud: “deal with a problem when it is still small, before it can grow into something serious.”

And saying ‘NO!’ to abuse and manipulation at the get go makes it easier for the abuser/manipulator to admit he’s wrong. Alex is a ‘Christian.’ Now, it’s going to be really hard for him to get right with all. Oh boy!

And if he doesn’t apologize and come clean (which he must do for his own rightness with God and people), many will not forgive him, which will keep this split going.

I would blame much of this on the doctrine that is destroying America: once-saved-always-saved — every born-again believer goes to heaven no matter what — which I counter at ONEcanhappen with Who-Goes-To-Heaven Scriptures — Narrow is the Way.

Sad: Chuck Norris Still Warmongering

From: ToBeFree.wordpress.com

Chuck has been saying good things about Ron Paul, etc.. So why is he still pushing USA warmongering with all that we know now about these wars and 9/11? Our commander in chief’s Christmas crisis

What gives us the right to be over there — paying off the Taliban and guarding the poppy fields…?

Our invasion did exactly what the global elite wanted to happen: reopening up the flow of opium and besieging  one of the countries that would oppose the NWO.

Supporting unjust wars is one of the two main reasons why I don’t have WorldNetDaily listed in my links.

C’mon, Chuck! C’mon Joseph Farrah! You guys claim to be Christians, right?

Ron Paul vs Sarah Palin

“Where and when has Palin ever articulated a coherent alternative to the orthodox Republican doctrines of supply-side economics and endless war? She isn’t about to do it in her “book,” and she isn’t capable of it.

What is especially irksome, however, is that there is indeed a populist champion of the Tea Party grassroots, someone with the knowledge, the organization, the proven fundraising ability, and the principles to lead the GOP out of its ideological and political morass: Ron Paul.

Palinism‘ is a hairstyle. Paulism is a bona fide movement.”

Mel Gibson: Parallels between Mayan culture shortly before it collapsed and America — “THE USE OF FEAR to manipulate people” & “HUMAN SACRIFICE … sending guys off to Iraq for no reason”

From: MSNBC, Oct. 3, 2006

The “Apocalypto” director recently made widely reported comments drawing parallels between Mayan culture shortly before it collapsed and America’s current situation, saying “the precursors to a civilization that’s going under are the same, time and time again,” and adding, What’s human sacrifice if not sending guys off to Iraq for no reason?”

The organizer of the film festival where the comments were made says that the quote was “exploited out of context” — but, in fact, Gibson made several other thinly veiled references to America today. For example, the director talked about “the use of fear to manipulate people then quipped, “so happy that doesn’t happen now.” Motivating people with fear is apparently a major theme of Gibson’s new film.

“I just wanna draw the parallels,” Gibson said. “I just looked at it, and thought, we display that stuff here. I don’t wanna be a doomsayer, but the Mayan calendar ends in 2012,” he chuckled. “So have fun!”

Nazis Fear an Armed People: Schwarzenegger’s Ammo Law

Kurt Nimmo
Infowars
October 13, 2009

Second Amendment advocates and other defenders of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights are outraged by California Gov. Schwarzenegger’s scheme to force all law-abiding gun owners in the state to submit data to be inserted in a database when they purchase ammunition.

featured stories Nazis Fear an Armed People: Schwarzeneggers Ammo Law
jefferson
Schwarzenegger’s SS Totenkopf death’s head belt buckle displayed on the cover of Time Magazine.

It makes sense California would enact such a law. The state is lorded over by an avowed Nazi.

”I admired Hitler, for instance, because he came from being a little man with almost no formal education up to power. And I admire him for being such a good public speaker,” Arnie said in the documentary Pumping Iron. The producer of the film, George Butler, considers Schwarzenegger a ”flagrant, outspoken admirer of Hitler.”

In a book proposal, according to the New York Times, Butler also said he had seen Mr. Schwarzenegger playing ”Nazi marching songs from long-playing records in his collection at home” and said that the actor ”frequently clicked his heels and pretended to be an S.S. officer.”

In response to Butler’s accusation, Schwarzenegger told the newspaper in 2003 that he despises Hitler.

He does? If so, why does Schwarzenegger wear a belt buckle bearing the SS Totenkopf, a Nazi SS insignia? Schwarzenegger appeared on the cover of Time Magazine on June 25, 2007, with Michael Bloomberg — who also has contempt for the Second Amendment — wearing the death’s head belt buckle. He wore it again nine months later in the March 2008 issue of Esquire Magazine.

Schwarzenegger proudly displayed the death’s head buckle a few months ago at the CeBIT 2009 IT conference in Hanover, Germany.

Schwarzenegger’s late father, Gustav, voluntarily applied to join the Nazi Party in 1938 when it was still illegal in Austria. He also voluntarily applied to become a member of the Sturmabteilung, the Nazi paramilitary wing, on May 1, 1939. He was a Hitler-worshiping brownshirt.

Arnie invited Austrian president Kurt Waldheim to his wedding in 1986 after it emerged that the former UN secretary general had long concealed that he fought in a German army commando accused of atrocities.

All of this may be incidental to Arnie’s signing of AB962, the California ammo bill. But then, considering Arnie’s flagrant display of an SS insignia, it does not seem likely.

Nazis feared an armed public. Soon after grabbing power in 1933, the Nazis conducted massive searches and seizures of firearms from political opponents. “After five years of repression and eradication of dissidents, Hitler signed a new gun control law in 1938, which benefited Nazi party members and entities, but denied firearm ownership to enemies of the state,” writes Stephen P. Halbrook.

“History shows that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by so doing,” Hitler said.

“The Nazi Weapons Law of 1938 replaced a Law on Firearms and Ammunition of April 13, 1928,” writes Jews For The Preservation of Firearms Ownership. “The 1928 law was enacted by a center-right, freely elected German government that wanted to curb ‘gang activity,’ violent street fights between Nazi party and Communist party thugs. All firearm owners and their firearms had to be registered. Sound familiar? ‘Gun control’ did not save democracy in Germany. It helped to make sure that the toughest criminals, the Nazis, prevailed.

In California it is much the same — the state, the toughest criminal on the block, will now have a monopoly on gun possession while the law-abiding citizens will be forced to jump through hoops in order to realize the constitutional right to own a firearm.

It is ironic that Schwarzenegger signed this bill. He is an avowed Nazi that takes pride in wearing the same insignia as the Schutzstaffel or the SS. It is a symbol representing not only the secret police and naked totalitarian power, but the Nazi death cult responsible for killing tens of millions of innocent humans.

Millions of them would have lived a lot longer if they had firearms and fought back against the people Arnold Schwarzenegger worships.

“No Hate,” Himself (John Wooden) Recognized as the Greatest Coach! Why?

aboutpic

Better late than never….

A little over a year ago, I finally (not being a basketball fan) discovered John Wooden. I happened to see Bill Walton on Charlie Jones Live to Tape* — and the way Bill talked about Coach Wooden — WoW!! This started me on my search.

Here is leadership the way it is supposed to be, hate-free, which sadly, I haven’t seen demonstrated very much in most of the leaders whom I have known personally. Why is Godly leadership so rare in America? I recently wrote this article at ONEcanhappen, thinking hate is a huge reason why. Hate destroys leaders’ ability and right to lead: The Boot-Camp Factor: The Hate & Anger Factory Where Men are Programmed to Kill and Then Become Our Dads?!! Our Pastors?!!! Let’s Get Free to Bring in the True Kingdom!!!!!!!

Finally, I found the gold standard — a man who not only did it, but skillfully explains how to do it (he started out as an English teacher).

I watched everything I could find (on TV, DVD and online), and then I sat down and carefully read his book, Wooden on Leadership, cover to cover, small pieces at a time, actually underlining and marking about 1/3 of it. I highly recommend this book!

I’m amazed at this man: his heart; his genuine love for others, wishing them all (black or white) to succeed in life (not just in the game); being firm when he knows he’s right, but always open to hearing about or seeing a better way to do it; his thorough research, being willing to try new things; etc..

What a man. No wonder why his players still love him so! He was way more power-under than power-over. And he was so careful, thinking out every aspect which he painstakingly implemented.

But John Wooden wasn’t born “no hate.” He gives a few examples in chapter 7 in Wooden on Leadership. Early in his career, he said he made a decision about a player that still bothers him to this day, because he reacted out of emotion instead of doing the right thing. And on one occasion, he actually punched out the opposing coach in response to the false accusations and string of expletives that coach was spewing at him. But coach Wooden learned from his mistakes. He not only learned to control himself externally, but also internally — not even thinking hateful thoughts.

Coach John Wooden is an example to us all! He deserves this award. What a heart of gold!

Success is peace of mind, a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing that you did your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming, and not just in a physical way: seek ye first the kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be yours as well.”

John Wooden is clearly a Christian.

From: AP, UCLA’s Wooden honored as sports’ greatest coach

John Wooden’s friends, family and former players all say they didn’t need an award from a national magazine to confirm the identity of the greatest coach in American sports history.

Yet the Sporting News made it official Wednesday, recognizing the 98-year-old Wooden as the pinnacle of a profession that was redefined by the UCLA coach over his unmatched career in Westwood.

During a luncheon in the John Wooden Room at one of his favorite restaurants in Sherman Oaks, the coach saw the real reward for a life spent teaching, mentoring and improving lives: A room packed to overflowing with the recipients of those lessons, from his daughter, Nan, to current UCLA coach Ben Howland, to former Bruins center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. …

“He was the greatest teacher ever. His integrity, the way he lives his life, is a model for all of us.”

“The most important thing in the world is family and love,” Wooden said. “Love is the most important thing in the world. Hate, we should remove from the dictionary. … They say you never use love in your Pyramid (of Success). I just say I never thought of it.”

Walter Cronkite: News Anchor, or Global Propagandist? “I’m Glad To Sit On The Right Hand Of Satan”

From: Moral Law

A recent Rasmussen Poll found that the late news anchor Walter Cronkite still commands a much higher approval rating than do today’s news anchors. 78% of those polled said they had a favorable impression of Cronkite, while only 12% rated him unfavorably. Interestingly, only 20% considered Cronkite liberal, while 37% considered him moderate and 17% conservative.

Perhaps these viewers were unaware of Cronkite’s words on 19 October 1999, when he received the Norman Cousins Global Governance Award from the World Federalist Association. Accepting the award, Cronkite told the audience that “We Americans are going to have to yield up some of our sovereignty … to the better, greater union.”

He went on to say that Pat Robertson had written, “‘We should have a world government, but only when the Messiah arrives. [laughter from World Federalist audience] Any attempt to achieve a world order before that time must be the work of the Devil.’ Well, join me. I’m glad to sit here at the right hand of Satan [applause].

Tattoos Matter: Cyclist Mimicks His Devil Tattoo Besides Teammate Lance Armstrong

Tour de France 2009 Stage 18 Time Trial, 7/23/09

Today, Verses showed Andreas Kloden acting out his red Devil tattoo on his upper, right arm today, while warming up next to his teammate Lance Armstrong.

He stuck his tongue out, laughing; looked at the Devil image; mimicked its expression, placing his head next to it & clenching his teeth; and then made a remark about Lance, whom didn’t seem to mind.

Apparently another cyclist (Zabel) has the same tattoo, but in black and white.

In contrast, a cross was dangling from the man to his left, Lance Armstrong as he road the TT.

Hmmm. Whom shall we serve? Dylan: Gotta Serve Somebody — It may be the Devil, or it may be the Lord, but you gotta serve somebody.

Life is not a game.
