Why the Government Lies About Social Security

by Ron Paul

Perhaps the biggest media story of 2010 was the influence of Tea Party voters on the Congressional landscape. The new Congress comes to Capitol Hill with a mandate to end profligate spending and restore fiscal sanity in Washington, we are told. But when the House and Senate convene in January the newly elected members will face tremendous pressure to maintain spending levels for entitlement programs. Even the most modest proposals to trim Social Security or Medicare spending will be met with howls of indignation and threats of voter revolt. Legislators who propose any kind of means testing or increased retirement ages can expect angry visits from senior citizens and lobbyists ready to fund a candidate back home who supports the status quo.

But millions of Americans now realize that the status quo is an illusion that will not last even another 10 or 20 years. The federal government cannot continue to spend a trillion dollars more than it collects in revenue each year because we are running out of creditors. Fiscal reality is setting in and the consequences may be grim, even if Congress finds the courage to take decisive action now.

Courage begins with a commitment to see things as they are, rather than how we wish they were. When it comes to Social Security we must understand that the system does not represent an old age pension, an insurance program or even a forced savings program. It simply represents an enormous transfer of payment with younger workers paying taxes to benefit the other beneficiaries. There is no Social Security trust fund and you don’t have an account. Whether you win or lose the Social Security lottery is a function of when you happen to be born and how long you live to collect benefits. Of course young people today have every reason to believe they will never collect those benefits.

Notice that neither political party proposes letting people opt out of Social Security, which exposes the lie that your contributions are set aside and saved. After all, if your contributions are really set aside for your retirement, the money is there earning interest, right? If your money is in your account, what difference would it make if your neighbor chooses not to participate in the program?

The truth of course is that your contributions are not put aside. Social Security is a simple tax. Like all taxes, the money collected is spent immediately as general revenue to fund the federal government. But no administration will admit that Social Security is nothing more than an accounting ledger with no money. You will collect benefits only if future tax revenues remain high. The money you paid into the system is long gone.

My hope is that at least some members of the new Congress will cut through the distortions to see Social Security as it really is. The best way to fix the impending Social Security crisis is also the simplest: Allow younger individuals to opt out of the program and use their tax savings to invest privately as they see fit. This is the true private solution. Your money has never been safe in the government’s hands and it never will be.

Ron Paul, newly appointed head of the Congressional Banking Committee, says the Fed is bailing out states and cities by purchasing their bonds, even though they almost certainly will go into default. As usual, the money will be taken from all citizens in the form of higher prices and destruction of savings. [The banking cartel is in charge, and Congress is in its service.]

Wikileaks Reveals U.S. Government’s Delusional Foreign Policy

by Ron Paul

We may never know the whole story behind the recent publication of sensitive U.S. government documents by the Wikileaks organization, but we certainly can draw some important conclusions from the reaction of so many in government and media. At its core, the Wikileaks controversy serves as a diversion from the real issue of what our foreign policy should be. But the mainstream media, along with neoconservatives from both parties, insists on asking the wrong questions. When presented with embarrassing disclosures about U.S. spying and meddling, the policy that requires so much spying and meddling is not questioned. Instead the media focuses on how authorities might prosecute the publishers of such information.

Unfortunately no one questions the status quo or suggests a wholesale rethinking of our foreign policy. No one suggests that the White House or the State Department should be embarrassed that the U.S. engages in spying and meddling. The only embarrassment is that it was made public! This allows ordinary people to actually know and talk about what the government does.

State secrecy is anathema to a free society. Why exactly should Americans be prevented from knowing what their government is doing in their name? In a free society we are supposed to know the truth. In a society where truth becomes treason, however, we are in big trouble. The truth is that our foreign spying, meddling and outright military intervention in the post-World War 2 era has made us less secure, not more, and we have lost countless lives and spent trillions of dollars for our trouble. Too often it’s the official government lies that have given us endless and illegal wars resulting in hundreds of thousands of deaths and casualties.

Take the recent hostilities in Korea as only one example. More than 50 years after the end of the Korean war American taxpayers continue to spend billions of U.S. military dollars to defend a modern and wealthy South Korea. The continued presence of the U.S. military places American lives between these two factions. The U.S. presence only serves to prolong the conflict, further draining our empty treasury and placing our military at risk.

The neoconservative ethos, steeped in the teachings of Leo Strauss, cannot abide an America where individuals simply pursue their happy, peaceful, prosperous lives. It cannot abide an America where society centers around family, religion or civic and social institutions rather than an all-powerful central state. There is always an enemy to slay, whether communist or terrorist. In the neoconservative vision, a constant state of alarm must be fostered among the people to keep them focused on something greater than themselves, namely their great protector – the state.

This is why the neoconservative reaction to Wikileaks revelations is so predictable. They say, “See, we told you, the world is a dangerous place”, so goes their claim. “We must prosecute or even assassinate those responsible for publishing the leaks. Then we must redouble our efforts to police the world by spying and meddling better with no more leaks”, so they say.

We should view the Wikileaks controversy in the larger context of American foreign policy. Rather than worry about the disclosure of embarrassing secrets we should focus on our delusional foreign policy. We are kidding ourselves when we believe spying, intrigue and outright military intervention can maintain our international status as a superpower while our domestic economy crumbles in an orgy of debt and monetary debasement.

It is yet another example of how the corporate media will lie and break agreements in order to accomplish its overarching mission — to denigrate and tear down any political candidate who will endeavor to break the stranglehold of mega-corporations and banks over the political life of the nation.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYFTfiU11KE]

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Og99vvtvRlA]

Earlier in the week Texas Republican Ron Paul ventured into enemy territory when he agreed to appear on the Lawrence O’Donnell show on MSNBC, the same network that ambushed his son and attempted to portray him as a member of the Ku Klux Klan opposed to the Civil Rights Act. The corporate media immediately took its cue from the Maddow “interview” — actually a drive-by attempt at character assassination — and ran back-to-back segments designed to make Paul out to be a racist. The wife of former Federal Reserve mob boss Alan Greenspan, Andrea Mitchell, declared the attempt to destroy Ran Paul was “a game changing interview.” It was nothing of the sort. Rand Paul leads the race in Kentucky.

David Gregory of “Meet the Press” called Rand’s comments “pretty far out view even for those on the right” and professional character assassin Chris Matthews went on “Leno” to bash Paul as “a philosopher and philosophers shouldn’t run for office.”

Instead of philosophers, we get a lickspittles for the establishment.

Matthews’ job is to steer people away from the fact that Obama and the Democrats are no different than Bush and the Republicans. Both work for the banksters. Both support forever war and the ongoing effort to erect pyres of dead bodies in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and soon enough Iran.

Is it any wonder Delaware’s Christine O’Donnell has refused to be interviewed by the establishment media after it dredged up and ancient video clip and attempted to make her out as a witch?

If you doubt MSNBC is a cheerleader for mass murder in far away lands, consider the fact the network dropped Jesse Ventura like a rock back in 2003 when he dared oppose the illegal and immoral invasion of Iraq. They canceled “Jesse Ventura’s America” in response to his principled opposition. Obviously, Jesse is too much of a philosopher for MSNBC, a network owned by General Electric. GE is one of the world’s top three producers of jet engines, supplying Boeing, Lockheed Martin and other military aircraft makers for the powering of airplanes and helicopters that kill brown people in “rogue states.”

Lawrence O’Donnell’s lecturing Ron Paul on “freedom” — as mandated by government at gunpoint — is hypocrisy at its worst.

The CIA infiltrated corporate media is not a purveyor of freedom and liberty. It is a slick, multi-billion dollar propaganda apparatus designed to trick people into support the establishment and its foreign wars. The false right-left paradigm exercised 24/7 on the corporate media networks is a distraction. It is a slight of hand devised to distract people as the ruling elite roll out their global slave and surveillance grid.

Ron Paul: Complete implosion of the U.S. currency system “95% likely… [especially] if the bombs started to fall on Iran”

From: Hotline On Call

Paul Says ’12 Run Depends On Fall Of U.S. Dollar

Texas Rep. Ron Paul (R) told reporters Saturday that the bulk of the economic crisis is yet to come, and that a White House ’12 bid largely hinges on his anticipated fall of the U.S. dollar.

Prior to appearing before the Virginia Tea Party Patriots Convention in Richmond, Paul called a complete implosion of the U.S. currency system “95% likely… [because] right now the whole world is racing to beat their currencies because they think it’s going to help trade…But let me tell you, if the bombs started to fall on Iran, hold your hat, because that would be, I believe, the end of our dollar system. And we would have a real skirmish to find out what we’re going to replace this government with.”

Paul’s “End of Dollar Hegemony” is nothing we haven’t heard before from the Congressman, but at this point it’s largely indicative of his decision to run for president in ’12. He is slated to speak at the University of Iowa later this month, an appearance many pundits have pegged as his first WH stump in the critical caucus state. He denied that rumor today, saying, “I don’t any precise plans for 2012. I don’t have an organization [in Iowa], and there are some who are very well organized. It’s a long way off, and events can change quickly, and I believe sincerely we’re moving toward a much more major economic crisis. Depending on where we are on that might help me make that decision.”

I asked Senatorial candidate Joe Miller what he thought about preemptive war

Last night, I met senatorial candidate Joe Miller at Wellspring church.

I mainly wanted to see his stand on preemptive war. I decided not to ask the question publicly during the Q & A, because I thought if he did agree with me [he said in his talk that he was a member of the Friends church] many of the ‘Christians’ there would decide not to vote for him, because they want to bomb-bomb-bomb Iran whether Iran is really developing nukes or not, and many haven’t yet repented from supporting the immoral Bush Wars I & II.

Didn’t Jesus say: “Do unto others…” and “Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God?” How did we get so far off? Didn’t we learn anything from Iraq? Why do we think we can trust our government’s Iran-with-WMDs analysis when now we find they actually fabricated the Iraq version: Newly declassified: Bush team wanted Iraq war from start and White House claims of Iraq pursuing a nuclear weapons program based on confiscated aluminum tubes were fabricated

I thought I’d post a photo of Joe looking good,
because the corporatocracy owned Anchorage Daily News
probably will intentionally do the opposite.

Joe Miller

[20% crop of photo shot from across the room with the tiny LX5]

I was the last person to talk with Joe with I think only his campaign manager listening. I asked him what he thought of preemptive war, mentioning that I heard him say that he was a Friends church [Quakers] member.

He said he should have explained that [which a reader finally explained to me in a comment which I verified]. He then gave a response that I imagine is pretty close to Rand Paul, who is more willing to bomb Iran than his father, Ron. Ron Paul believes in self-defense when it really is, but preemptive war is most often reverse-Christian:

Ron Paul’s Biggest Eye-Opener: ‘Christian’ Evangelicals Pushing Preemptive War in the Name of Spreading Christian ‘Love’

Ron Paul: “I’m supporting Chuck Baldwin” & “the most difficult group to recruit has been the evangelicals who supported McCain and his pro-war positions”

Ron Paul’s Christlike Attitude: Love, Peace & Hope – No *Initiation* of Aggression!

Ron Paul: Jesus is the Prince of PEACE, Not Preemptive War

Joe said something like we shouldn’t be nation building with wars, but on the other hand, if just one nuke hits us, that’s the end of our republic. So he’s for bombing Iran, but not to take them over for regime change.

I responded, “But we can’t trust the CIA’s intel.” Right then, the man whom I think is Joe’s campaign manager scurried him off to go to another meeting — so Joe couldn’t answer.

Overall, I was impressed with Joe Miller’s willingness to answer everyone’s questions, and then to answer them directly. He seems like a real, no-nonsense kind of guy, totally unlike Lisa Murkowski, whom I’ve always not voted for.

So I didn’t get a Joe Miller bumper sticker. I can’t 100%-support a candidate who isn’t more careful about preemptive war, but I do think he’s quite amazing, and I hope he wins. He is light years ahead of Lisa, who is so liberal people wonder how she can still be a Republican. She has actually said something like: “I don’t think people care how much we spend.”

Lisa is in many ways the opposite of the Christlike leader, Congressman Ron Paul, whom the evangelicals in Alaska (and elsewhere) mostly dissed in 2008. And it really does seem that Joe Miller is very much like Ron’s son, who could soon join Joe Miller in the U.S. Senate, which would be a great improvement.

I didn’t think that Lisa had a chance, having lost in the primary to Joe, but in this ‘me’ generation, it seems that a large percentage of Alaskans are more concerned with getting federal money than in doing the right thing for the future of this nation, which includes no longer aborting babies.

God bless!

Ron Paul: Let’s Put Patients and Doctors Back in Control of Healthcare!

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkSGmjvRZoM]Let’s Put Patients and Doctors Back in Control of Healthcare!

RonPaul2008dotcom | September 26, 2010

09/27/2010 – http://www.RonPaul.com

This week marks six months since Congress passed the healthcare reform bill in what has become all-too-typical legislative chicanery. Those in power crafted a mammoth piece of legislation and rammed it through Congress under a dire sense of emergency. Insisting on time enough to read the bill was dismissed as dangerous and crazy in a time of crisis. We were told that if we really wanted to see what was in the bill we would have to pass it first. I cannot imagine the Founding Fathers intended that Congress legislate in this manner. I would think if a member is not absolutely certain the entire legislation meets constitutional muster, the default vote should be “no” in accordance with our oath of office. But now that Congress has had six months to read the new law, there is a significant amount of buyer’s remorse on Capitol Hill.

The more constituents learn about the law, the more angry they become. 60% of Americans are now to be said in favor of repealing the entire thing. Unfortunately, it is much more difficult to repeal a law than it is to pass a bill. I wrote a while back about the egregious provision to require businesses to issue 1099s for all transactions over $600 as a way to partially pay for it. I have co-sponsored legislation to fix this issue, yet this is just the tip of the iceberg.

First of all, in spite of the administration repeating over and over that this legislation would not increase costs for Americans, they are now saying they knew all along that it would. The Congressional Budget office estimates that American families will see their premiums rise by an average of $2,100 by 2016. The Wall Street Journal has reported that the cost of compliance is forcing some insurers to increase premiums by up to 20% as soon as next year. Also, in spite of repeated claims from the administration that we could all keep our plans and doctors if we liked them, the administration’s own officials are now predicting that won’t be true for up to
117 million Americans who will lose their current plans.

Major insurers are also dropping child-only plans because of mandates and price fixing on such policies leaving parents with fewer choices for their children, not more. In addition, in spite of claiming this law would contain government costs, not increase them, administration actuaries now predict it will increase healthcare spending by over $300 billion. This additional spending comes along with doctor shortages, fewer choices and more taxes, perhaps, worst of all, increases in labor cost because of health insurance mandates are discouraging employers from hiring new workers and even triggering more layoffs.

Anyone with a basic understanding of Austrian economics could have predicted the unintended consequences of these new healthcare policies. Central planning never increases choices and quality or cuts costs as promised. Price controls and government mandates always create artificial scarcity. Healthcare is not a right or privilege. It is a product, like food or clothing. As with any good or service, the free market regulation of supply and demand provides the optimal quality to the maximum number of people.

Once we realize the problems we are trying to solve today were created by government intervention beginning in the 1960s, we can begin to put patients back in control of healthcare, rather than third party oligopolies and government bureaucrats. The sooner the better.

Ron Paul is America’s leading voice for limited, constitutional government, low taxes, free markets, a return to sound monetary policies, and a sensible foreign policy that puts America first.

Barney Frank Gives Respect to Ron Paul on Jay Leno

Barney Frank Gives Props to Ron Paul on Jay Leno + an idea!

Tonight, Aug. 31 I got a smile on my face watching Jay Leno. Barney Frank was a guest and while being somewhat critical of Obama’s earlier address to the nation he mentioned Ron Paul, stating something to the effect that it was the two of them who were REALLY trying to bring the troops home.

Pure awesomeness! I find it extra special anytime Ron Paul is mentioned in a positive light to a large audience during an entertainment program. The Ron Paul mention comes at around 2:22:

P.S. I just had a thought – I think we should all pull a Betty White and campaign hard to get Ron Paul on SNL. As mentioned above I think it would really help Ron Paul’s image (and drum up support for a potential presidential run) if he had more exposure in pure entertainment settings, thus making him appear more personable and likable to the wider average TV audience.

What do you all think, should we try and get Ron Paul on SNL?

Scott Horton Interviews Rep. Ron Paul

Scott Horton, August 29, 2010

Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) discusses his article “Mosque Demagoguery Is Bipartisan” and the linkage between property rights and First Amendment rights, why the abandonment of the dollar will lead to an inflationary depression and why Dennis Kucinich’s anti-assassination bill is a redundancy (but deserving of support nonetheless).

Ron Paul’s Shocking Message To The Tea Party

From: digitalmeetingcenter.com

Here was Ron Paul’s message to the Tea Party via The New York Times just the other day:

“As many frustrated Americans who have joined the Tea Party realize, we cannot stand against big government at home while supporting it abroad. We cannot talk about fiscal responsibility while spending trillions on occupying and bullying the rest of the world. We cannot talk about the budget deficit and spiraling domestic spending without looking at the costs of maintaining an American empire of more than 700 military bases in more than 120 foreign countries. We cannot pat ourselves on the back for cutting a few thousand dollars from a nature preserve or an inner-city swimming pool at home while turning a blind eye to a Pentagon budget that nearly equals those of the rest of the world combined.”

While the Tea Party will be out supporting Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin this weekend, you wonder how many of them will be in full support of more wars and paying more interest to a group of untouchable and unauditable private bankers otherwise known as the FED? This is precisely what Ron Paul is asking the American public to consider when looking at the Tea Party leaders and see if they really stand for what they believe in.

Ron Paul believes the Tea Party is not about “left” or “right” like a lot of political pundits make it out to be. It’s about the constitution, and limited government.
