Lack of Forgiveness Can Affect Our Health

Everyone knows that being angry feels terrible. When we feel angry at someone, we get a tight feeling in our chest and body, and our minds aren’t free. Feeling angry at someone who cuts you off when you are driving is bad enough. Long term, chronic anger can ruin peoples’ lives. Feeling angry for something that happened in childhood can literally make people prisoners of their own emotions.

Dr. Luskin of Stanford University is studying how forgiveness can help people become healthy. The 150 volunteers who have taken part in the Stanford Forgiveness Project say that letting go of the hurt caused by other people or by forces they see as being outside themselves, is not just one of the greatest emotional releases; they feel better physically, as well.

“Getting angry and needing to forgive are universal phenomena, but the skills to forgive are inadequately taught.” …

Physically the body is in a state of stress. Muscles tighten, causing imbalances or pain in the neck, back and limbs. Blood flow to the joints is restricted, making it more difficult for the blood to remove wastes from the tissues and reducing the supply of oxygen and nutrients to the cells. Normal processes of repair and recovery from injury or arthritis are impaired. Clenching of the jaws contributes to problems with teeth and jaw joints. Headaches can become a problem. Chronic pain may get worse.

Blood flow to the heart is constricted. Digestion is impaired. Breathing may become more difficult. Anger can seriously impair the immune system….

Additionally, Dr. Luskin says, when the body releases certain enzymes during anger and stress, cholesterol and blood pressure levels go up, not a good long-term position to put the body in. Forgiveness has been shown to lower blood pressure naturally.

Science Has Conceded That Mobile Phones Can Break Up Cell DNA

November 27… Science has conceded the error: More than one lab has in fact shown that cell phone radiation can cause DNA breaks. Back in August, reporter Gretchen Vogel claimed that Hugo Rüdiger at the University of Vienna medical school was the only one (see September 3, below). Now, Vogel allows that a team from Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, China, had previously observed DNA breaks in cells exposed to GSM radiation.

In a letter published in the magazine’s November 28 issue, Vini Khurana, a neurosurgeon in Canberra, Australia, advises that, “[T]here are many other peer-reviewed papers from laboratories in at least seven countries, including the United States, showing that cell phone or similar low-intensity EMFs can break DNA or modulate it structurally.” (Others have submitted similar complaints to the magazine’s editors.) In her response, Vogel writes, “My intention was not to imply that there were only two papers showing any effects of EMFs. There are many publications that show effects of EMFs on DNA, but the citations listed [by Khurana] do not directly contradict the quoted sentence.” That sentence which leads her August 29 article begins: “The only two peer-reviewed scientific papers showing that [EMFs] from cell phones can cause DNA breakage…” In an exchange with Microwave News, Vogel drew a sharp distinction between DNA “damage” and “breakage,” which, she said, allowed her to exclude many other papers, particularly one by John Aitken.

EPA: Diesel Exhaust Probably Causes Lung Cancer

WASHINGTON — Diesel exhaust from large trucks and other sources probably causes lung cancer, the Environmental Protection Agency concluded Tuesday in a report that buttresses a push to reduce truck emissions through stricter requirements for cleaner diesel fuel.

The EPA report concludes that uncertainties remain about long-term health effects of exposure to diesel exhausts. It said, however, that studies involving both tests on animals and occupational exposure suggest strong evidence of a cancer risk to humans.

The US Department of Agriculture is accepting public comments between now and November 3, 2008 on a petition that would allow commercial growing and marketing of the first genetically engineered (GE) papaya trees on mainland US soil. If approved, this would remove all regulatory oversight of this GE variety by USDA of a virus-resistant papaya tree known as the Ring Spot Virus Resistant Papaya.

The USDA admits that this GE papaya will contaminate both organic and conventional non-genetically engineered papaya groves if it is approved. GE papaya pollen carried by wind, bees and other insects will contaminate the papaya groves of organic and conventional growers.

In Hawaii, a previously approved virus resistant [Hawaiian] papaya has caused extensive contamination of organic, conventional and wild papaya groves on most of the Hawaiian Islands in just a few years. This contamination has spread far more quickly than the USDA predicted in its initial assessment. Once native and cultivated papaya varieties are contaminated with transgenic pollen and the resulting seeds are planted, there is no calling it back.

LACK of vitamin D is significantly associated with Parkinson’s disease, a study has shown.

Scientists found that lower blood levels of the vitamin were more common in people with Parkinson’s than healthy individuals. But whether vitamin D deficiency was a cause of Parkinson’s or resulted from it still had to be determined.

The part of the brain most affected by the disease is highly sensitive to vitamin D, suggesting that the vitamin may be important to this region.

The four-year study adds to the literature on tea’s long-touted virtues. Moreover, any type of tea will do just fine.

Study: Eating Soy Feminizes Men

A new Harvard study suggests men who eat higher amounts of soy-based foods become “feminized” – confirming a series of reports documented by longtime WND columnist Jim Rutz and drawing outraged protests from the soy food industry.

According to a report from Reuters, the study was done by Jorge Chavarro of the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston, whose work appeared in the journal Human Reproduction.

“What we found was men that consume the highest amounts of soy foods in this study had a lower sperm concentration compared to those who did not consume soy foods,” Chavarro told Reuters.

In actual fact, the colon surgery severely restricted his normal eliminative functions, thereby overburdening the liver and tissue fluids with toxic waste. The previous series of chemo-treatments inflamed and irreversibly damaged a large number of cells in his body, and also impaired his immune system — a perfect recipe for growing new cancers. Now unable to heal the causes of the original cancer (in addition to the newly created ones), Snow’s body developed new cancers in the liver and other parts of the body.

Manuka Honey Kills Resistant Superbug Bacteria that Antibiotics Can’t

Officials are at a loss to explain why,” the article says. And they don’t even mention vitamin D. Why? What’s up? Is it because it’s not in Big Pharma’s interest because they can’t patent vitamin D?

A Google search for “birth defects” and “vitamin D” results in 300,000 hits!

And it should be common knowledge that most Alaskans have pitiful low vitamin D levels in winter. My hygienist says Alaskans’ teeth are horrendous, compared to Texans’, where she moved from. And all it takes are simple blood tests to find out. The sun doesn’t get high enough in the sky during much of the winter, so the atmosphere shields out the vitamin-D-producing rays.

And wasn’t the traditional diet of Alaska natives high in vitamin D, but now many eat a more Americanized diet, even with fast-foods?

All races of Alaskans exceed national rates for “major congenital anomalies,” according to the review of seven years of data (from 1996 through 2002) drawn from the Alaska Birth Defect Registry.

A surge in the use of CT scans in the last 25 years has led to millions of patients per year being unnecessarily exposed to dangerous radiation that increases their risk of cancer, according to a paper published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

“It has been estimated that about 0.4 percent of all cancers in the United States may be attributable to the radiation from CT studies,” the authors wrote. Because cancer can take a decade to appear, “this estimate might now be in the range of 1.5 to 2.0 percent” when adjusted for the current level of CT use.

A CT or CAT scan, which stands for computerized axial tomography, is a three-dimensional body scan acquired by means of an exceptionally high X-ray dose. CT scans have become popular because they provide more detail than normal X-ray scans. But according to co-author David Brenner, “The radiation dose from a CT scan is far larger than from a conventional X-ray. It’s 50 times to 100 times larger.”

A recent consensus panel estimated that about 50 percent to 60 percent of older individuals in North America and the rest of the world do not have satisfactory vitamin D status, and the situation is similar for younger individuals, according to background information in the article. Blood levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D, a measure of blood vitamin D levels, lower than 20 to 30 nanograms per milliliter have been associated with falls, fractures, cancer, immune dysfunction, cardiovascular disease and hypertension. These effects are thought to be mediated by the compound 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D, which is produced by the body and also converted from 25-hydroxyvitamin D.

Inquiry into ‘poisonous’ cabin air launched by UK government

The inquiry, announced by Jim Fitzpatrick, the aviation minister, follows complaints from pilots and passengers of nausea, dizziness and other health problems both during and after flights.

Estimates of how many people are affected vary.

The Government’s Committee on Toxicity believes passengers on one in 2,000 flights could be exposed to toxins in cabin air.

Others put the figure higher, including Dr Sarah Mackenzie Ross, a clinical neuropsychologist at University College London, who believed as many as 200,000 passengers a year could be affected.

Pilots had reported bad smells or what they believed was contaminated air on a number of aircraft including the Boeing 757, Airbus 319 and BAe 146.
