Fixing the Shadows – Part 1 of 4
Fixing the Shadows tells the story of the birth of photography itself and the profound question that it raised, and which has never been satisfactorily answered: what is photography for? Detailing the rival methods of the pioneers Henry Fox Talbot and Louis Daguerre for ‘fixing the shadows’, the programme examines how photography took its place alongside other new technologies like the railway and telegraph to transform our understanding of the modern world. It describes how pioneer photographers like the portraitist Nadar asserted the status of photography as an art only for this status to be transformed by the Kodak revolution, which put the camera into the hands of the masses who unlocked its potential for surreality, randomness and surprise. Finally it examines the case of Jacques-Henri Lartigue, the schoolboy photographer who demonstrated the true genius of photography in the hands of the amateur. Includes interviews with Chuck Close and David Byrne.

More than 45 million Americans, or 20 percent of U.S. adults, had some form of mental illness last year, and 11 million had a serious illness, U.S. government researchers reported on Thursday.
Young adults aged 18 to 25 had the highest level of mental illness at 30 percent, while those aged 50 and older had the lowest, with 13.7 percent, said the report by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration or SAMHSA.
The rate, slightly higher than last year’s 19.5 percent figure, reflected increasing depression, especially among the unemployed, SAMHSA, part of the National Institutes of Health, said.

This is Money (The Dark Side of the Moon, 1973), from Pink Floyd, live at P.U.L.S.E; recorded at Earls Court, London, in 1994. Roger Waters, the composer of Money, is not in this show.
Current members of Pink Floyd are: David Gilmour (guitars, lead vocals) • Richard Wright(keyboards, secondary vocals, backing vocals) • Nick Mason(drums, percussion);
Lyrics:
Money, get away
Get a good job with more pay and you’re o.k.
Money it’s a gas
Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash
New car, caviar, four star daydream
Think I’ll buy me a football team
Money get back
I’m all right jack keep your hands off of my stack
Money it’s a hit
But don’t give me that do goody good bullshit
I’m in the hi-fidelity first class travelling set
And I think I need a Lear jet
Money it’s a crime
Share it fairly but don’t take a slice of my pie
Money so they say
Is the root of all evil today
But if you ask for a rise it’s no surprise that they’re
giving none away

Higher quality version of Time, by Pink Floyd, in a live performance at Earls Court, London, from 1994. This version is taken from the 2005 P·U·L·S·E DVD and includes the reprise of Breath, at its end.
Time is part of Floyd’s legendary The Dark Side of the Moon (1973) and was composed by David Gilmour, Nick Mason, Richard Wright, and Roger Waters – though Waters was not present at this show. Aside from Gilmour (guitars, vocals), Mason (drums), and Wright (keyboard, vocals), Sam Brown (backing vocals), Jon Carin (keyboard), Claudia Fontaine (backing vocals), Durga McBroom (backing vocals), Dick Parry (saxophones), Guy Pratt (bass), Tim Renwick (guitars) and Gary Wallis (percussion) composed the show.
Lyrics go as follow:
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way
Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
And you run and you run to catch up with the sun,
but it’s sinking
And racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you’re older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time has gone, the song is over,
thought I’d something more to say
Home, home again
I like to be here when I can
When I come home cold and tired
It’s good to warm my bones beside the fire
Far away across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells.

TruTV will air the first TV program to put forward admissions from those involved, and probe deep into the proofs of a conspiracy
Aaron Dykes

November 19, 2010 Long-time prober of the JFK assassination, Jesse Ventura will have his first chance to prove on television that a conspiracy, not a lone gunman, killed Kennedy. The proof includes a shocking audio confession and much more; airs this Fri, Nov. 19 at 10 PM EST / 9 PM CST
In the next episode of the hard-hitting second season of Conspiracy Theory, former Governor Jesse Ventura will take on what he has long regarded as the most significant event of his generation and the 60s era– the assassination of John Fitzgerald Kennedy. The program will air this Friday, Nov. 19 at 10 PM EST / 9 PM CST, just days before the 47th anniversary of the iconic president’s death. But TruTV will air more than just memories and heated debate about the grassy knoll. For the first time ever on television, viewers will witness, at last, a confession in one of the most-controversial murders in all of history.
A “major figure” from recent U.S. history admits to involvement in the plot in an audio tape that will blow audiences away. The source names names, and Lee Harvey Oswald isn’t on the list. According to the show’s producers, Ventura’s team has even established new evidence that suggests the individuals allegedly involved in the assassination have powerful ties that even go as high as former President and former CIA director George H. W. Bush. Is this the key at last to why the media has been so reluctant to admit that someone else was shooting at Dealey Plaza on November 22, 1963? Ventura qualified as an expert shot while in naval special forces training, and qualified again as an expert during his term as Governor in Minnesota, yet he could not duplicate the time and accuracy of Oswald’s fateful shots.
In the course of the episode, Jesse Ventura, a former Navy SEAL and Underwater Demolitions expert, attempts to recreate Oswald’s alleged shooting that day. He tracked down the exact make and model, as well as ammunition stock that the Warren Commission claims Oswald used. But despite the fact that Ventura qualified as an expert shot while in naval special forces training, and qualified again as an expert during his term as Governor in Minnesota, he could not duplicate the time and accuracy of Oswald’s fateful shots. Yet Lee Harvey Oswald only qualified as a “marksman,” two grades lower than Ventura. (Witnesses who shot with Oswald have said for years that he had “Maggie’s drawers”—that he frequently missed the target and generally did not meet the high standards of a serviceman.)

With the intention of flooding 70% of the global cocoa supply with genetically modified (GMO) cocoa tree hybrids, a collaboration involving Mars, USDA and IBM is accelerating this process.
With primary funding from US chocolate producer Mars, the partnership includes scientists based at the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) of the US Department of Agriculture and Science as well as researchers working at IBM’s Thomas J Watson Research Center.
The scientists are determined to finalize gene sequencing of the cocoa genome which they say will “benefit” the chocolate industry and cocoa growers.

(NaturalNews) Imagine: you`re watching your daytime dramas and you see an advertisement showing a silver-haired couple walking along the beach holding hands, apparently linking their longevity to a once-daily multivitamin with mineral supplements. Or it`s Saturday morning and the kids take note of a cartoon figure advertising a gummi candy-like vitamin in tangy fruit flavors. Live longer and healthier? Nutrition the kids will like? Not so fast. What`s actually in those treats? What chemicals lurk inside that pill? Where does it all come from; how will your body react to it; and more importantly, do you actually need it? These are questions you should be asking before falling for the advertising gimmicks.
The ingredient list of one popular over-the-counter multivitamin/multimineral supplement reveals a dictionary of lengthy Latin phrases, many that should never be in anything you would willingly consume. Let`s examine some of these, shall we?
… The ingredient list goes on to include some very questionable additives such as polyethylene glycol — a caustic agent used to dissolve grease and found in some oven cleaners. It is also used as a sexual lubricant and whole colon laxative used prior to colonoscopy examinations. Its purpose here? To treat drug overdoses, believe it or not.
Another strange ingredient for a vitamin is stannous chloride, commonly used in silvering mirrors, in tin-plating steel and in the production of plastic polylactic acid for biodegradable polyester plastics. Its addition as a food additive is for color retention.
The cream of this crop of questionable chemicals is the inclusion of a known poison: boric acid.
Boric acid`s inclusion is as a medicinal preservative; however, prolonged exposure has been known to be toxic, producing kidney lesions, cardiovascular defects, skeletal variations, sterility and birth defects. It has been re-classified by the European Diagnostics Manufacturing Association (EDMA) meeting of 2007 in the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of Chemicals Regulations (REACH) as a highly toxic substance(3).

Unions lost their second big vote at Delta Air Lines on Thursday, with fleet service workers rejecting the union that had represented the same group at Northwest Airlines.
The voting by 13,104 baggage handlers and other fleet service workers ended with 52.5 percent of them voting for no union, according the National Mediation Board, the federal agency that runs airline union elections.
Delta is mostly non-union except its pilots. But labor got a foot in the door when Delta absorbed heavily unionized Northwest in 2008.
The election that ended Thursday was to see whether the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers would represent the combined workers, or none of them. Roughly 5,000 of those Delta workers had come from Northwest.

Rep. John J. Duncan Jr., former Chairman of the House Aviation Subcommittee and the current top Republican on the House Subcommittee on Highways and Transit, blasts TSA’s invasive “pat downs” during a speech on the floor of the House of Representatives on November 17, 2010. Duncan also questions the role of lucrative government contracts in TSA’s new naked body scanning machines. The text of the speech is copied below:
“Mr. Speaker:
A nationwide revolt is developing over the body scanners at the airports, and it should.
Hundreds of thousands of frequent fliers who fly each week are upset about getting these frequent doses of radiation.
Parents are upset about being forced to have their children radiated or being touched inappropriately by an unrelated adult.
There is already plenty of security at the airport, but now we are going to spend up to $300 million to install 1,000 scanners.
This is much more about money than it is about security.
The former secretary of Homeland Security, Michael Chertoff, represents Rapiscan, the company which is selling these scanners to his former department.
Far too many federal contracts are sweetheart, insider deals.
Companies hire former high ranking federal officials, and then magically, those companies get hugely profitable federal contracts.
The American people should not have to choose between having full-body radiation or a very embarrassing, intrusive pat-down every time they fly, as if they were criminals.
We need a little more balance and common sense on this.”

smiling skull on the White House.
George W. Bush still smiles a lot.
Barack Hussein Obama laughs a lot.
Note: both Bushes are Skull and Bonesmen,
as was John Kerry, who almost lived there.
President Obama works for the dark side too.
Had we elected Ron Paul
the White House would be white.
