Like me, the rabbi was shocked by how the Mavi Marmara was attacked in 2010 by Israeli commandos, with no warning. They murdered 10 of the peace activists, and Ken O’Keefe was sent to Israeli prison. I then saw hundreds of Jews in Tel Aviv honking their horns and CELEBRATING in the streets!!
I knew something was terribly wrong, and put that together with what I experienced during my two trips to Israel, decades earlier.

To loud jeering from the public in a packed room at the Loussac Library, Anchorage Assembly Chair Suzanne LaFrance decided that Assemblywoman Jamie Allard and Mayor Dave Bronson ask too many questions of testifiers against the proposed mask ordinance. âŚ
The effort to squelch questioning took a full hour of the Assemblyâs time that had been set aside for public testimony. A few minutes into testimony, Adam Trombley, who works for the Administration as the director of economic and community development, walked to the publicâs podium and removed the sneeze guard Plexiglas barrier [he wooden frame blocked tall testifiers’ eyes – ed.], sending the crowd into wild cheering.
He walked off with the podium as LaFrance became confused, without her âSergeant of Armsâ Chris Constant next to her to tell her what to do. So she called a recess and the official camera went dead.
After the break, LaFrance announced that the mayor had also dismissed the security guards from the room so they would not be able to remove people that she singled out. She said this is a separation of powers issue but that she would proceed with the meeting. (story)

Natalie Portman says Jewish community should focus less on the Holocaust
The actress believes other atrocities should also be emphasised in education
Natalie Portman is calling on the Jewish community to question how much emphasis they place on the Holocaust in comparison to other atrocities. âŚ
Portman was born in Jerusalem and lived there until she was three, when her family emigrated to the US. In America, she was educated at Jewish schools and learned about the Holocaust and the events leading up to the birth of Israel.
The 34-year-old told The Independent this experience led her to question how much the Holocaust, during which 11 million people were killed [not true], is placed at the forefront of education and whether it is right to prioritise it above other tragedies.
âI think a really big question the Jewish community needs to ask itself, is how much at the forefront we put Holocaust education,” she said. “Which is, of course, an important question to remember and to respect, but not over other things.”
Portman said she arrived at this conclusion after visiting a museum about the Rwandan Genocide and realising this was not something she had been taught about in school despite it taking place while she was a student.
“I was shocked that that [genocide] was going on while I was in school. We were learning only about the HolocaustâŚ.
