Skousen: The Battle For The Republican Party — “Fortunately, there are some politicians who simply cannot be bought, and the Ron Paul family is one of them. Sarah Palin is not – co-opted by the money issue in her quest for political power.”

Fortunately, there are some politicians who simply cannot be bought, and the Ron Paul family is one of them. Sarah Palin is not. I want to comment on what I believe is the crucial way in which Sara Palin has been co-opted by the money issue in her quest for political power. An interesting piece came out in Vanity Fair this week entitled, “Palin in Private” by Michael Joseph Gross. It was clearly a hatchet job on Palin by a Leftist, but I have to admit, it was based mostly on truths that the Palin team does not want aired. Gross fails to balance his embarrassing revelations with any of Palin’s redeeming qualities.

During her vice presidential candidacy with John McCain, Palin underwent a painful transition from principled libertarian to controlled Republican show girl. She’s being used now and doesn’t see that all the attention the media is lavishing upon her is not intended to promote her, but to set her up for a fall. During the 2008 campaign she started out bucking the establishment advisors that were clearly attempting to control her. But despite initial resistance to the fame, fancy hotels and celebrity treatment, she eventually succumbed to the new lifestyle and learned to like it.

The Battle For The Republican Party

Actually, there is no doubt who controls the Republican Party, and it is not K-Street lobbyists, as Examiner columnist Timothy Carney claims. These big lobbying machines work, indirectly, for the Powers That Be (PTB) – the real forces that control both Republicans and Democrats. The powerful and wealthy lobbyists that have historically had big offices on K-street in Washington DC only provide a level of insurance to keep things running smoothly. The real battle for control of the GOP is over the conservative base that is increasingly joining the Tea Party rebellion in opposition to mainstream control of the Republican party and its role in growing big government. Establishment Republican leaders like Newt Gingrich and Michael Steele continue to promote false conservative candidates with big money backing, hoping to convince Tea Party supporters that only moderate Republicans can win in November. Sadly, uncompromising and hardline candidates have won only a few races in the primary season, while main-stream candidates have generally succeeded in snookering conservatives into supporting re-branded liberals as conservatives.

Big wins by the Tea Party hardliners were Rand Paul’s victory over Tim Greyson in Kentucky, Joe Miller’s slim defeat of Republican Senator Lisa Murkowsky in Alaska, and the ouster of Utah mainstream Senator Robert Bennett in the Utah primary. The nomination of anti-global warming scientist Art Robinson in Oregon to challenge Democrat Peter DeFazio was also a big win for constitutional conservatives.

Big wins by the establishment, on the other hand, were the renomination of Senator John McCain in Arizona, the Texas defeat of Debra Medina by Gov. Rick Perry and the wins of Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina over their respective conservative challengers for the Republican primary in California. In most of the smaller races, mainstream (but fairly conservative) Republican candidates won as well. There were a few outright conservative frauds that won–Ben Quayle in Phoenix, the lackluster son of former VP Dan Quayle, was the prime example. He was funded by former Pres. George H. W. Bush and his entire entourage of establishment hacks from Washington.

Despite the fact that most Tea Party candidates failed to win in Republican primaries, the movement is still a huge force to be reckoned with because of its size and uncompromising demeanor. Nothing was more exemplary of this than the huge rally organized by Fox News commentator Glenn Beck in Washington DC this past week, which drew an estimated 800,000 people. The media played its usually role as truth saboteur by grossly underestimating the crowds in attendance and by giving excessive play to the objections of black civil rights leaders who were incensed that Beck grabbed “their spot” on the Washington mall before they could.

The media was successful in taunting Beck so badly over the “politicization of the rally” issue that Beck was forced to downplay his rhetoric, discourage banners, and bill the event as a moral and religious rally honoring our troops(everyone’s favorite ploy) instead. It lost some of its fire in doing so, but it made up for it by appealing to an ecumenical spirit of cooperation among the various conservative religious factions–which is badly needed.

The establishment is in the middle of a powerful campaign to co-opt the Tea Party movement, so we must understand how they intend to do this. Primarily, they intend to use the power of money to make sure that real conservatives are denied funding and that controlled conservatives are so richly funded that they won’t dare to risk losing that funding.

First, I will comment on Tim Carney’s piece in the Examiner for its interesting analysis on the role of well healed lobbyists in the Republican party. [my comments in brackets]

“Bob Dole, once the standard-bearer of the Republican Party, parlayed his political clout into personal wealth [only happens to lawmakers who play along with the PTB during their tenure], and now he’s putting that wealth to work against a conservative Republican Senate candidate in a general election. Dole, now a lobbyist at Alston Bird, contributed $1,000 on Aug. 11 to the independent Senate campaign of Charlie Crist, who left the GOP in April. Dole’s may be an extreme case– because he’s actually backing a non-Republican [this is actually a reflection of the fact that Dole is on the globalist team and they’ll support fellow liberals like Crist even after they have been forced out of the party, when their masquerade fails]– but it epitomizes the fundamental split within the Republican Party.

“The current GOP fault line is not exactly conservatives vs. moderates or new guard vs. old guard. For 2010, the rivalry is the Tea Party wing against the K Street wing [what I call the mainstream wing, because it is not just a matter of catering to lobbyists and big money]. To tell which kind of Republican a candidate is, see how the Democrats attack him: If he’s branded a shill for Wall Street, he’s from the K Street wing. If he’s labeled an extremist outside the mainstream, he’s a Tea Partier.

“More tellingly, study their campaign contributions [yes]. K Street Republicans’ coffers are filled by the political action committees of defense contractors, drug companies, lobbying firms, and Wall Street banks. A Tea Party Republican is funded by the Club for Growth or the Senate Conservatives Fund, which is run by the Republican leadership’s least-favorite colleague, Jim DeMint [not so. True Tea Party candidates are supported almost exclusively from small contributions from individuals].

“In Colorado’s Senate primary last week, the Tea Party trumped K Street as Weld County District Attorney Ken Buck upset former Lt. Gov. Jane Norton. Norton, herself a former lobbyist who tried to run from that background, raised $293,000 from PACs. Buck got only $2,500 in PAC cash. Buck got zero support from Republican lawmakers’ PACs while 15 GOP incumbents funded Norton, including leaders Mitch McConnell, Lamar Alexander, John Thune and Kay Bailey Hutchison. Two senators who have cashed out to K Street — Mel Martinez and Trent Lott — also put their money behind Norton [all mainstream insiders].

“Kentucky shows an even starker contrast. Before the May 18 Senate primary, secretary of state and McConnell acolyte Trey Grayson had raised a half million dollars from PACs –20 times the PAC haul of upstart Rand Paul. Paul got a check from outgoing curmudgeon Sen. Jim Bunning, but 18 Republican senators bankrolled Grayson’s campaign, plus the Republican Mainstreet Partnership and three top House Republicans. Grayson pocketed political action committee cash from businesses that have sided more with Obama than with Republicans, such as $10,000 from drug maker Pfizer — a key champion of Obamacare. Other Grayson funders are a rogues’ gallery of subsidy sucklers and regulatory robber barons: bailout bandits like the American Bankers Association and the Managed Funds Association; Obamacare backers like the American Hospital Association and a dozen drug companies; ethanol baron Archer Daniels Midland; cap-and-trade profiteers like Duke Energy; and government contractors like the Chubb Corp. and Northrop Grumman. A K Street lobbyist who had represented AIG during the bailouts hosted a fundraiser for Grayson, and at least a dozen lobbying firms and industry groups backed him with cash.

“And of course, Trent Lott was a Grayson donor. Lott is the captain of the K Street team. He told a reporter last month his thoughts on the Tea Partiers: ‘We don’ t need [or want] a lot of Jim DeMint disciples. As soon as they get here, we need to co-opt them [very telling].’ Lott’s proposed co-opting is not primarily ideological — Norton and Grayson, and their inside-the-Beltway patrons are all fairly conservative [as only the mainstream would define it]. The main distinction between Team Lott and Team DeMint might have less to do with policy platforms and more to do with a politician’s attitude toward the Washington nexus of power and money.”

This last part is absolutely true. That is the key issue whether or not a candidate is owned by the establishment. If he is, Tea Party supporters don’t trust them, no matter how conservative they claim to be. One only need to view John McCain’s complete reversal of position on illegal immigration to see how essential it is not to believe what they say, but watch who’s behind them.

“Nevada’s Sharron Angle [battling Senate majority leader Read] is anti-bailout and anti-subsidy [and the establishment is pulling out all the stops to discredit her]. Paul could try to shrink defense spending and ethanol subsidies. In Florida, Republican Marco Rubio isn’t a game player like Dole’s buddy Crist is.

“You can see today, by their improved personal financial situations, what Lott and Dole were trying to accomplish in Washington. You can also guess which current Republicans will join them on K Street in a few years — andplay ball with them in the meantime. But Tea Partiers and DeMint disciples will come to Washington with an aversion to K Street. Now that Lott and Dole have sided so clearly against them, maybe K Street will have a harder time trying to co-opt them.”

In a more recent article Carney finds another gem about Republican manipulation–trying to help re-elect Democratic Senator Reid: “Why would the former chairman of the Republican National Committee — he ran the GOP for six years during Reagan’s presidency — endorse Democrat Harry Reid in a dead-heat election? Because that GOP bigwig is from the K Street Wing of the Republican Party [wrong–because he is part of the PTB working to control both parties]. Frank Fahrenkopf is now head of the American Gaming Association, the gambling industry’s lobby. This cycle, like last cycle, Fahrenkopf has funded Reid’s reelection [Why is a supposedly conservative Republican running the gambling lobby? It is just more evidence of their true colors – they are and were only playing roles to fool conservatives].”

When Palin returned to Alaska, vowing to rise again and break loose from the coercion of the establishment, the PTB sicced their media dogs on her to set her up for failure and to bring her back into their arena. Legal and media pressure were applied almost constantly while she was governor of Alaska and nearly drove her to bankruptcy with various ethics charges and the resulting legal challenges. As I indicated, I’m convinced it wasn’t their purpose to destroy her, but rather to drive her into the arms of the monied Republican king-makers who could offer to be her “saviors” (a book deal worth at least $10M was a good start) and then set traps to control her once she had become used to the lavish lifestyle of a political celebrity. Look at what she has become, according to interviews conducted by Michael Gross:

Warm and effusive in public, indifferent or angry in private: this is the ‘pattern of Palin’s behavior toward the people who make her life possible.’ A onetime gubernatorial aide to Palin says, ‘The people who have worked for her–they’re broken, used, stepped on, down in the dust.’ On the 2008 campaign trail, one close aide recalls, it was practically impossible to persuade Palin to take a moment to thank the kitchen workers at fund-raising dinners. During the campaign, Palin lashed out at the ‘slightest provocation, sometimes screaming at staff members and throwing objects. Witnessing such behavior, one aide asked Todd Palin if it was ‘typical of his wife.’ He answered, ‘You just got to let her go through it… Half the stuff that comes out of her mouth she doesn’t even mean.’ When a ‘campaign aide gingerly asked Todd whether Sarah should consider taking psychiatric medication’ to control her moods, Todd responded that she ‘just needed to run and work out more.’

Her anger kept boiling over, however, ‘and eventually the fits of rage came every day. Then, just as suddenly, ‘her temper would be gone. Palin would apologize and promise to be nicer.’ ‘Within hours, she would be screaming again.’ At the end of one long day, ‘when Palin was mid-tirade,’ a campaign aide remembers thinking, ‘You were an angel all night. Now you’re a devil. Where did this come from?’ The intensity of Palin’s temper was first described to me in such extreme terms that I couldn’t help but wonder if it might be exaggerated, until I heard corroborating tales of outbursts dating back to her days as mayor of Wasilla and before. One friend of the Palins’ remembers an argument between Sarah and Todd: ‘They took all the canned goods out of the pantry, then proceeded to throw them at each other. By the time they got done, the stainless-steel fridge looked like it had got shot up with a shotgun.’ This friend adds, ‘She has a horrible temper, but she has gotten away with it because she is a pretty woman.’

“When Palin was mayor, she made life for one low-level municipal employee so miserable that the woman quit her job, sought psychiatric counseling, and then left the state altogether to escape Palin’s sphere of influence–this according to one person with firsthand knowledge of the situation. Palin’s former personal assistants all refused to comment on the record for this story, some citing a fear of ‘reprisal.’ Others who have worked with Palin recall that, when she feels ‘threatened, she does not hesitate to wield some version of a signature threat: ‘I have the power to ruin you.’

William Kristol [a neocon globalist], editor of The Weekly Standard, and Fred Malek, aide to Presidents Richard Nixon and George H. W. Bush are advisors. Lawyer Robert Barnett, the most successful literary agent in Washington–his clients range from Hillary Clinton to Dick Cheney to Tony Blair–negotiated Palin’s reported $7 million advance for Going Rogue, and he helps oversee her ‘speaking schedule, which is arranged by the Washington Speakers Bureau.

The small inner circle that shapes Palin’s voice day to day includes lobbyist Randy Scheunemann, a director of the neoconservative think tank ‘Project for the New American Century,’ [which provided the theoretical “New Pearl Harbor” impetus for the government’s false flag attack on the WTC] who advises Palin on foreign affairs [which explains her neocon positions supporting more wars of intervention]. Palin’s speechwriter is Lindsay Hayes [from the McCain camp]. Doug McMarlin and Jason Recher, both of whom did advance work for George W. Bush, serve as ‘bodyguards and confidants. Both Hayes and Recher were on Palin’s 2008-campaign road team, and both were known for indulging her whims, according to their colleagues.”

In short, her life is very different now than before. When initially presented with a fancy and expensive new outfit during the McCain campaign, she expressed horror that the campaign would spend huge sums on designer clothes. Now she only buys expensive clothes, demands first class airfare when her private jet isn’t available, and drives a new Cadillac Escalade with tinted windows. FOX pays her over a million dollars a year for her pat, unoriginal commentary (broadcast from her own studio at her home), and she still commands huge 6 figure fees for speaking engagements which guarantees that the most principled Tea Partiers (who are poor) can rarely afford to attend. A new 6,000-square-foot stone-clad château style home is being built for her, complete with an airplane hangar for Todd Palin’s Piper Cub.

Hyperinflation – What It Takes To Get There

I’m not optimistic about where this country is heading, but to properly confront what’s coming it’s very important to understand the real risks facing us and not get misled by hype. I’m getting increasingly irritated by conservative pundits claiming that hyperinflation is imminent, and just around the corner. It is not, and here’s why: simply put we don’t have the automatic, direct injection structures in place for government to deliver those ever-increasing quantities of money directly into the hands of consumers, as they did in the Weimar Republic in Germany. That doesn’t mean it can’t still happen, but the process currently in place works more slowly. We need to understand the process in order to correctly foresee when this threat is really upon us. This week I will dig into this and other intricacies of hyperinflation.

First, let me set the stage by quoting one of the typical hyperinflation projections. Note that all the basic data is correct, only the leap to hyperinflation is unsupported. Here’s Charles Scaliger of the New American magazine [my comments in brackets]:

“Think you’re scared enough about the economy, the ballooning deficit, and the prospect of ruinous tax rates and runaway inflation to pay for astronomical government debts? If you haven’t read Boston University economist Laurence Kotlikoff’s August 10 article for Bloomberg, ‘U.S. Is Bankrupt and We Don’t Even Know It,’ you probably aren’t.

“Dismissing official federal debt figures out of hand as misleading ‘fiscal labeling,’ Kotlikoff estimates that our true fiscal gap is a staggering $202 trillion — about 15 times the ‘official’ debt level pronounced by government statisticians. The reason for this vast discrepancy is the scurrilous practice — used by the federal government to conceal real levels of indebtedness — of declaring certain liabilities, like Social Security and Medicare payouts, as ‘off budget.’ It’s as though these are not enormous sums of money that the federal government has committed to pay out over the next couple of decades as waves of Baby Boomers and Generation X-ers retire.

“The federal government has behaved like an imprudent householder who, having taken out a mortgage, a car loan, and a student loan, proceeds to run up an enormous credit card debt — then declares the last ‘off budget’ and ignores it. Just as laws, credit ratings, and debt collectors will eventually catch up with such behavior in the private sector, so too the pitiless laws of economics will eventually bring our federal government to heel.

“And the day of reckoning won’t be pleasant. Kotlikoff minces no words in describing an outcome comparable to what Weimar Germany endured in the great hyperinflation of the 1920s: ‘Herb Stein, chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers under U.S. President Richard Nixon, coined an oft-repeated phrase: ‘Something that can’t go on, will stop.’ True enough. Uncle Sam’s Ponzi scheme will stop. But it will stop too late.’

“And it will stop in a very nasty manner. The first possibility is massive benefit cuts visited on the baby boomers in retirement [won’t happen–politicians have to pander to the voters to get reelected]. The second is astronomical tax increases that leave the young with little incentive to work and save [that too is political suicide, unless you only “tax the rich”]. And the third is the government simply printing vast quantities of money to cover its bills [and they don’t actually have to print money to create more–electronic creation is the modern way]… And bond traders will kick us miles down our road once they wake up and realize the U.S. is in worse fiscal shape than Greece [actually bonds are probably the first to realize when the government starts to inflate it’s way out of debt–it destroys their market, which dwarfs stocks].

“Simply put, the lies our government continues to tell itself and us about the debts run up over the past few decades will soon be laid bare. What Kotlikoff has labeled ‘Enron accounting’ has enabled the federal government to perpetuate the deception whereby older generations are subsidized by younger generations. Few Americans are even aware that the so-called ‘Social Security trust fund’ consists only of IOUs [same with the FDIC guarantee of bank deposits]– the federal government spends Social Security ‘contributions’ before they are even paid, just as it spends every last cent of money extracted from the collective taxpayers’ hide. Government neither saves nor invests; it consumes.

“One unpleasant point that Kotlikoff avoids is that there is a difference between tax rates and tax revenues. Simply put, Americans will be neither able nor willing to pay significantly higher taxes [true]. Demands to pay higher income taxes will most likely be met with non-payment or outright revolt, which will leave the federal government only the option of printing its way out of debt. Once the rest of the world figures out that game, though, the feds will find no takers for their bonds, and the end of America as we know it will come about in a tsunami of hyperinflation.”

For that to be true, it requires a detailed analysis of how hyperinflation happened in Germany, 1923-24. Here are a few interesting historical highlights, an excerpt from “Paper Money” by George J.W. Goodman. “Why did the German government not act to halt the inflation? It was a shaky, fragile government, especially after the assassination [Walter Rathenau, the SPD foreign minister was killed in 1922], … In January 1923, Germany failed to make a payment, and France invaded the Ruhr. The vengeful French sent their army into the Ruhr to enforce their demands for reparations, and the Germans were powerless to resist. More than inflation, the Germans feared unemployment. In 1919 Communists had tried to take over, and severe unemployment might give the Communists another chance. The great German industrial combines — Krupp, Thyssen, Farben, Stinnes — condoned the inflation and survived it well. A cheaper Mark, they reasoned, would make German goods cheap and easy to export, and they needed the export earnings to buy raw materials abroad.

“Inflation kept everyone working as the pace of the economy [and velocity of monetary circulation] kept accelerating. The cost of living index was 41 in June 1922 and 685 in December, an increase of more than 16 times. The occupation of the industrial region of Germany in the Ruhr valley took place to ensure that the reparations were paid in goods, such as coal and steel. The Mark was viewed as practically worthless. [Now here is one key:] Inflation was exacerbated when workers in the Ruhr went on strike, and the German government printed more money in order to continue paying them for ‘passively resisting.'[That was the first structural step that allowed the German government to start injecting currency directly into the hands of citizens–which allows for a rapid expansion of the money supply, in ever-increasing quantities]

“So the printing presses ran, and once they began to run, they were hard to stop. The price increases began to be dizzying. Menus in cafes could not be revised quickly enough. A student at Freiburg University ordered a cup of coffee at a cafe. The price on the menu was 5,000 Marks. He had two cups. When the bill came, it was for 14,000 Marks. ‘If you want to save money,’ he was told, ‘and you want two cups of coffee, you should order them both at the same time.’ …By late 1923, the German government required 1,783 printing presses, running around the clock, to print money.”

The payment of “resistance money” to the workers in the Ruhr was not sufficient in itself to cause hyperinflation. Germany was also forced to pay for war victim pensions and compensation for their families. This broadened the flow to a majority of all Germans. So, with over half the citizens having access to an ever-increasing flow of income, the rest of the country began to respond in kind and demand increased wages. Businessmen started raising prices regularly to pay for their increasing labor and material costs, and the process started to gallop away.

A History of the Modern World pointed out that the only ones destroyed initially were those on fixed income: “Annuities, pensions, proceeds of insurance policies, savings accounts in the banks, income from bonds and mortgages – every form of revenue which had been arranged for at some time in the past, and which often represented the economy, foresight, and personal planning of many years – now turned to nothing. The middle class was pauperized and demoralized.” Eventually, almost everyone was hurt.

Tax revenue was quickly devalued by the government’s own rapid inflation, which further induced the government to rely almost solely on inflation to pay for government expenditures. Tax rates couldn’t be changed except once a year, so that source of revenue quickly became irrelevant. Notice that had the government not been able to directly pay so much money into the hands of a majority of citizens, the inflation spiral would have been limited. Price inflation can’t continue unless a large percentage of people have automatically increasing amounts of cash to pay for the rising prices. If the majority does not, buying (for them) slows down dramatically with rising prices and that forces prices to fall in order to attract more buyers.

This has a bearing today. Except for Congressionally mandated stimulus money, which takes time to debate and pass, there is no automatic way for the government to create money and hand it out to consumers. Ben Bernanke’s famous suggestion that he might hire helicopters to fly around and distribute cash from the air earned him the moniker of “helicopter Ben,” but otherwise was only a figure of speech. With exception of one stimulus check, all the bailout money went to the big bankers and insiders. Even if the government started boosting SS payments and pension and welfare payments, it would only cause a slow rise in inflation, but would also damage those on fixed incomes which would complain–forcing Congress to slow down or stop the increases.

There was another factor–the relative size of the monetary base before the inflation. Germany was a moderate sized nation, and had a large economy compared to most other European countries. Nevertheless, the German Mark was not used around the world as an international currency–the British Pound was the major world currency at that time. So, it was not particularly difficult to double the money supply in Germany in one year, and then quadruple it the next. In a 4 year period, the German Mark went from 14 Marks to the dollar to a Trillion to 1. You can’t do that with the dollar today. The dollar has spread out so much around the world as an international currency that there are at least $200 Trillion printed dollars outstanding, and probably $800 trillion in contracts that have never been monetized. That’s a staggering amount.

As I have pointed out before, a $3 trillion bailout of the banks was less than 1.5% inflation of the money supply. I don’t approve of bailouts like this (and there is a lot more money suspected of being created off the books) but one has to understand how this huge base of dollars allows the US to keep inflating without it showing up dramatically as inflation–let alone hyper-inflation. It was inflationary, but only within the speculative economy that the big banks control: the paper stock, bonds, mutual funds, FOREX, and derivative markets. Most of this money just stays in these speculative bets through roll-overs and only about 25% gets invested in the real economy (and most of that is in the industrial military complex. That’s the reason we haven’t had a lot of price inflation. But stocks and bonds are inflated–because they are on the receiving end of government money creation.

Now the last point I want to make about the claims of imminent hyperinflation has to do with misunderstanding the terminology. In short, some misinformed people are saying hyperinflation is synonymous with a loss of confidence in the currency or a flight from currency. This is a factor but it is distinct from hyperinflation. Here’s a typical example from a self-styled economic commentator, Gonzalo Lira, who is actually an expat American novelist living in Chile.

“Most people dismiss the very notion of hyperinflation occurring in the United States as something only tin-foil hatters, gold-bugs, and Right-wing survivalists drool about… [Other more] amiable souls diligently point out that in a deflationary environment–where commodity prices are more or less stable, there are downward pressures on wages, asset prices are falling, and credit markets are shrinking–inflation is impossible. Therefore, hyperinflation is even more impossible.

“This outlook seems sensible; if we fall for the trap of thinking that hyperinflation is an extension of inflation [It is but he’s going to try and disprove that reality]. If we think that hyperinflation is simply inflation on steroids–inflation-plus–then it would seem that, in our current deflationary economic environment, hyperinflation is not simply a long way off, but flat-out ridiculous. But hyperinflation is not an extension or amplification of inflation. Inflation and hyperinflation are two very distinct animals. They look the same–because in both cases, the currency loses its purchasing power–but they are not the same.

“Inflation is when the economy overheats: It’s when an economy’s consumables (labor and commodities) are so in-demand because of economic growth [always fueled by government pumping too much new money into the hands of consumers by inducing banks to loan at rates too low], coupled with an expansionist credit environment, that the consumables rise in price. This forces all goods and services to rise in price as well, so that producers can keep up with costs. It is essentially a demand-driven phenomenon. Hyperinflation is the loss of faith in the currency.”

His definition of hyperinflation is totally insufficient and improper. It is definitions like this that allow Lira and other to claim that hyperinflation is imminent. But, there are many degrees of loss of faith that precede true hyperinflation. We have it right now, to some degree, but are not experiencing hyperinflation. Even with moderate inflation there is a loss of faith in currency. But it is even more true of hyperinflation.

With moderate inflation of around 10% investors and people start trading dollars for other currencies or gold–anything which appears to hold its value better than the dollar. Nations with bigger hoards of dollars can’t unload them all at once on the FOREX lest the dollar’s declining value collapse halfway through the transaction. So they start buying companies in America or commodities for future stockpiles which they intend to use. China is currently on a dollar spending spree buying up industrial metals and oil.

For it to qualify as hyperinflation the rate of inflation needs to rise above the level where panic buying starting to happen –usually in the 20-50% inflation rate per year. Once it goes about 100% per year (doubling the inflation each year) it starts going exponentially upward until government stops the money creation process. Only at that level do we see the total collapse of confidence where people feel that if they wait any amount of time, the money will be worthless.

But this can’t and won’t happen in the US until government gets Congress to allow it to hand out regular stimulus checks to all Americans. Nothing less than that would allow for unrestrained spending. As I have long predicted, I think the financial PTB will continue to gradually increase inflation sufficient to keep people pacified, but not so much as to create panic buying.

Michael Pento explains where the current inflation is going and why it isn’t showing up as significant price inflation: “Wall Street analysts seem to believe that the Fed’s doubling of the monetary base after the credit crunch has not had an inflationary impact on our economy. Their logic can be summed up like so: ‘The money the Fed created and dropped from helicopters has all been caught in the trees.’ In other words, the Fed is creating money, but it is just being held as excess reserves by the banking system instead of being loaned to the public. Therefore, the money supply hasn’t truly increased, there is no money multiplier effect, and aggregate price levels are behaving themselves. But this is only a half-truth.

“Yes, most of the money created by the Fed has been kept by commercial banks as excess reserves. However, the Fed doesn’t conjure reserves by magic. It first creates an electronic credit by fiat, then purchases an asset held by a financial institution. Those primary dealers then deposit that Federal Reserve check into their reserves. The act of creating money from nothing and buying an asset — be it a Treasury bond or Mortgage Backed Security (MBS) — drives up the price of that asset in the open market. Those price distortions send erroneous signals to private buyers and sellers, eventually creating gross economic imbalances. Therefore, the inflation created by the Fed first gets concentrated in whatever asset it has chosen to purchase — before spreading throughout the economy.” In reality, it doesn’t get spread throughout the economy. Too many of the big boys are keeping their funds in the speculative markets and not spending normally.

IMPORTANT! Joel Skousen on Radio Liberty 8/12/10: Unnecessary war with Iran imminent; Russia and China preparing to preemptively nuke America; Senate drops House-approved plan to protect U.S. from an EMP attack; False conservatives taking over tea party

Transcribed by Jeff Fenske

“My personal belief is that we are going to war very, very soon with Iran. Israel will lead off with a preemptive strike on Iran, pretending as if there is a nuclear threat problem there, and the U.S. will join in.

But ultimately, the long term problem is that Russia and China are preparing for nuclear war with America. And we’re treating them as allies. We’re continuing to transfer weapons and technology to them. We’re basically setting our own nation up for a third world war. And I think that’s what the globalists want in order to force the United States into giving away their sovereignty and seeking protection from the international community.”

• • • •

The U.S. Senate has dropped the House-approved plan that would prepare the United States to defend itself from an attack from electromagnetic pulse, whether it be from a natural solar flare or from a space located nuclear weapon.

This is not surprising. Despite U.S. government knowledge that Russia and China are preparing to strike the west with nuclear, biological and chemical weapons, FEMA says nothing to the American people about preparing for nuclear war. And the federal government, itself, is building at least six new, deep, underground bunkers, specifically to protect government officials from a preemptive nuclear strike — but no warnings to the public.

So obviously, Stan, the feds know this strike is coming. They’re not building bunkers 1/4 mile underground for some local terrorist strike.

We are being set up in this country for false conservatives to take the lead of the tea party movement.”

Joel Skousen: Annual Big Picture Briefing On World Affairs

There always exists a small percentage of thinkers that see through to what is really happening. I’m often surprised when I go back and research the writings and speeches surrounding most major historical crises, that there were always a few significant voices that really saw what was happening. They are, however, always drowned out by establishment voices who outnumbered them and discounted their warnings. You would be surprised how many astute viewers actually saw conspiracies going on clear back in the early 1900s when the Federal Reserve and the income tax were being foisted on the people–not to mention those who saw through the manipulations that led to World Wars I and II. Sadly, modern day history texts omit the stories of these cogent dissenters.

The prime strategies employed by the PTB to control dissent are 1) Don’t let the public feel the pain and 2) Deny them crucial information. When the public never has to feel the direct financial pain of foreign wars, foreign aid, welfare, education or financial bailouts, they won’t complain–at least not enough to force government to stop. Only those few with educated, ideological views will protest, but they are always in the minority. As I constantly point out, this is why both parties indulge in massive deficit spending rather than taxation–to keep the public quiet. Obviously, deficit spending has its limits, but before those limits are reached, the PTB fully intend to deliver another world crisis sufficiently severe to justify defaulting on that debt. There is no other way out for them. …

It’s important to keep in mind that there are at least $200 trillion outstanding in monetized dollars internationally. The $3T the FED has created recently to bailout their friends has not been particularly inflationary for two reasons.

Annual Big Picture Briefing

On World Affairs

By Joel Skousen

Begin Excerpt –

At the end of each year, I dedicate an entire issue to stepping back and taking a broad look at what has happened during the year and to give my readers an analysis of crucial trends in the economy, moral stability, and security. As most of you already sense, things are going from bad to worse very quickly under this Democratic administration. However, virtually every evil trend except government controlled health care began under the Republican Bush administration. For nine years now, ever since the 9/11 attack government has played off of the threat of terror and economic collapse–which they themselves were responsible for or directly caused–to become the sole solution provider in the minds of all citizens.

That’s a big part of our current dilemma, the failure of most to see that government power is the problem, not the solution. Another part is the inability of people within the liberty community to understand the nature and power of the conspiring forces arrayed against us and how they operate. Either they can’t see the system is rigged or they are too anxious to believe that collapse is imminent. Collapse is not imminent. We are in an inexorable slide toward monetary weakness, world war and world government and they intend to milk every successive crisis to gain more power over individual and national sovereignty.

I’ll begin my analysis by providing you with some observations about how the Powers That Be (PTB) use the principles of conflict creation, conflict control and managed “solutions” (the Hegelian Dialectic) to thwart any critics of expanded power and jolt people into accepting change. We will see how they have applied those principles during the past year and how they intend to use them in the future.

The Current Financial Crisis: The credit crisis is not yet over and we can expect more job losses next year. The newspaper print media is being hit especially hard with both internet competition and the downturn in advertising revenue. Editor and Publisher, the flagship publication of the print media is, itself, going under. It bemoaned the fact that “More than 40,000 newspaper jobs were lost in 2009, according to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics. That is nearly twice the 21,000 cut in 2008 and more than any single year in the past 10 years.”

Bob Chapman of the International Forecaster predicts, “As we look back and this year comes to an end we find two years of failure. Even government admits to 1-1/2 years of negative growth – a sorry record after having poured trillions of dollars into the economy. The recent 3rd quarter results supposedly broke that record. If it did it was the result of government stimulus and Fed monetization. If you look back further you will find a stock market that rallied 54% just to reflect the highs of 1999. House prices have declined to 1990s levels as well. Both markets, which were bubbles, will fall again next year.

“The dollar will soon end its mini-rally and the USDX will test 71.18 in the first quarter as the euro tests $1.62. Interest rates will stay at zero for at least two years, and mega monetization will continue. As you have just seen the Treasury wants TARP funds for Treasury debt and the administration wants the TARP funds to further stimulate the economy.

We are told the credit crisis is over and that recovery is underway. We do not believe that. It is projected that as many as 300 more companies will default on debt in 2011. A default rate of 12 to 14 percent. That is up from 1% in 2007 and a long-term average of 4.5%. These are not just small firms, but companies with more than $100 million in assets as well. That doesn’t sound like recovery to us.”

Like the Great Depression of 1929 to 1941, the current financial crisis is a combination of market fundamentals working to eradicate mal-investments and unstable financial speculation and, in my opinion, the intentional pulling of the plug on a huge market bubble created by rampant insider option trading and speculation. Even though a few highly placed investment bankers profited by shorting the market’s fall, personal enrichment was not the sole driving force in crisis. The longer term goal of those in control of money, both then and now, is to facilitate a broad redistribution of capital assets from smaller, over-extended banks and companies to insider banks and corporations that had access to “new money” either on or off the books.

Interesting enough, the insiders can’t stop others from joining in and taking advantage of the flood of new money that starts spreading through the economy during inflationary growth, but they can periodically knock the competition out of the game by changing the rules and/or pulling the plug. That’s part of what the system is for–rewarding those who go along. I’m not just talking about getting rich either, but going along with unethical and illegal conduct that accompanies this kind of collusion between government and a selection of the private sector. What we are seeing is not green shoots benefiting all sectors of the economy, but a consolidation of financial power into the nine largest investment banks and many other corporations favored by or connected to the federal government, and the Federal Reserve–a private fiat banking system whose most sensitive dealings are completely secret.

Control of a nation’s money gives more power than simply providing a currency to facilitate commerce–it can also oil the wheels of corruption, immunity, and blackmail, without public traces. It is the essential element of conspiratorial control. Deficit spending (which avoids unpopular taxation) is used for paying off special interests, judges, Congressmen and people who facilitate corrupt government/business practices. It provides, in addition to the profits derived from government run drug pipelines, funding for the dark side of government (black ops, illegal cover-ups), and the silencing of opposition forces.

Conspiracies are careful that only a few key people have knowledge of the full scope of their goals and operations, although there are many others who are close enough to the inside to see there is a control system. Many think it is benevolent, and for the good of the country, but they see enough of its ruthless nature and consequences for those who get too nosey to know not to ask questions. Knowledge about the existence of and operations of a conspiracy is tightly controlled by liberal use of “need to know” rules and the veil of State Secrets that has been the hallmark of the last 4 administrations. They also prefer to hire predictable people who work in certain directions naturally without much convincing.

In order to make the system work monetarily, The PTB have to maintain an absolute monopoly on the creation of fiat money. They do this through the Federal Reserve system, even though only a minority of money created is actually turned into paper currency. Most money is created by journal entries–no bills required. And, even beyond journal entries, there is a more recent form of money creation whereby various insider-connected investment banks were allowed to develop totally new financial instruments (derivatives, etc) that created future financial obligations in the trillions of dollars and sold them as insurance policies and swaps, securities, and hedges against an almost infinite variety of risks. But the creation of these obligations required no actual money. They were traded solely based on the highly inflated paper asset base of the institutions issuing the obligations.

The PTB also need effective control of the SEC and other financial regulatory bodies in order to allow for these new forms of creative financing that have little or no reserve requirements. That is in large part how bubbles are created-little real money or capital assets are required to begin with, but the speculative fever sucks in billions in real money looking for a higher return. There are a variety of counter-balancing strategies used in trading derivative swaps and hedge options to keep most of these instruments rolling over rather than becoming monetized. Payoffs in actual dollars (monetization) is avoided at all costs, because the nominal dollar value of these derivatives actually exceeds the amount of dollars outstanding by at least twice.

When the bottom fell out of the securitized sub-prime mortgage market was there a sufficient threat to the originators of these instruments that they were forced to come up with actual money to pay them off. That’s when the financial crisis was sold to the public and Congress with sufficient panic to induce a bailout bill that literally gave carte blanch powers to the Treasury and the FED. These insiders who held all the key levers of power could buy up any debt no matter how worthless and pay any price to any institution they desired without Congressional control. I doubt that Congress would have done any controlling even if it had reserved the right.

So, that was the crisis-the first stage of the Hegelian dialectic. The crisis was wholly created by the FED and the US Treasury, but blamed on the free-market and “lack of controls.” However it was insider connected Congressmen who actually served as conduits for others who wrote these various pieces of legislation creating the legal exception and/or mandates necessary to expand the selling of sub-prime mortgages to unqualified buyers, and the subsequent securitization of debt packages worldwide. Racial preferences were also used to mandate loans to unqualified minorities.

The crisis then leads to an excuse to engage in more profligate government spending as part of the “solution.” But, the solution turned out to be false on several counts. First, it was sold as a bailout of Main Street, not Wall Street, even though the bailout funds went almost exclusively to certain insider controlled institutions. Pension funds and local government trust funds had been lured into buying these risky “securitized” mortgages as well as the insurance derivatives which were supposed to guarantee them. They were not bailed out. AIG was the largest recipient of bailouts, and it used that money almost exclusively to cover derivative obligations owed to fellow insider institutions–not the general public.

Naturally, false solutions only give rise to additional crises, but there are an almost unlimited number of variations on those false solutions that can be brought forward to satisfy the public–at least for another six months. There is a kind of unwritten rule in Washington: “give the public a new proposal–any proposal–and if not unduly criticized by commentators in the news, the public will automatically give you six months more time to see what happens.” They can keep this up almost indefinitely, knowing that the public never keeps track of past promises–like promises of future budget surpluses–that never materialize.

The only reason the derivatives bubble has not completely melted down is that the FED has privately intervened in the default of these derivatives (on behalf of AIG and others) and is paying off those defaults that are owned by the largest insider banks at par through secret agreements, not made public. Some other obligations are being paid out by revolving TARP funds that never seem to get used up. All of this is the main reason why the FED and the US Treasury are fighting so hard to stop Ron Paul’s bill to audit the FED.

Controlling dissent: There always exists a small percentage of thinkers that see through to what is really happening.

In the aftermath, they’ll propose a new system and start all over again.

It’s important to keep in mind that there are at least $200 trillion outstanding in monetized dollars internationally. The $3T the FED has created recently to bailout their friends has not been particularly inflationary for two reasons. 1) it’s only 1.5% of the dollars outstanding, and 2) almost all of it has gone to replenish the insiders speculative investment accounts which only circulate in the speculative economy–hardly any has gone into the real economy of direct investment in business. It is only when the government starts injecting billions into the hands of consumers that prices start to rise. So we are still a long ways from hyperinflation.

This coming year I do expect more direct bailouts putting more money into consumer’s pockets, which will be inflationary. There will be more housing and car incentives and a host of other special interests prosing that their businesses must be bailed out. The PTB have only a short time to keep trumpeting the “green shoots” of recovery before the lie becomes the subject of ridicule. In order to make good on public expectations, more cash will have to be injected directly to consumers. None of this leads to true economic improvement, but it will at least preserve the illusion of recovery, and buy them more time until a world-wide crisis can mature that will give them the excuse to start over.

In strategy number 2, the establishment news media is the prime tool of the government to propagate the official line and denying crucial information to the public. The deception is done primarily by omission rather than outright lying. Establishment news outlets simply refuse to air real opposing points of view but keep repeating the official views of government spokespersons. What private pundits they do allow to comment are carefully selected to ensure they almost never differ significantly with the official position–but enough to give the appearance of an opposition. In reaction to criticism, the mainstream media will sometimes actually tell the whole truth, even about a conspiracy–but they will never repeat it. They know that unless they make a drum beat of an issue, the public will never take notice or get upset sufficiently to demand action.

SODOM IN AFGHANISTAN

Patrick Cockburn, a British correspondent for the UK Independent has unearthed another ugly bombshell implicating the British government covering up for Afghan soldiers who sexually abuse and sodomize detainees in Afghanistan. “One reason Afghan villagers prefer to deal with the Taliban rather than the government security forces is that the latter have a habit of seizing their sons at checkpoints and sodomizing them… But the fact that male rape is common practice in the Afghan armed forces has, unfortunately, a great deal to do with the fate of British soldiers.

“There was a horrified reaction across Britain last week when a 25- year-old policeman called Gulbuddin working in a police station in the Nad Ali district of Helmand killed five British soldiers when he opened fire with a machine gun on them. But the reason he did so, according to Christina Lamb in The Sunday Times, citing two Afghans who knew Gulbuddin, was that he had been brutally beaten, sodomized and sexually molested by a senior Afghan officer.” In fact, British officers witnessed it and failed to stop it.

In other news of the war, it appears the US is using the same bribery tactics in Afghanistan that they used in Iraq, enhancing our able to claim victory when there is none. The Nation Magazine’s investigative correspondent Aram Roston, reports that US military contractors charged with assisting US forces in Afghanistan are actually funding the groups killing American soldiers. Roston describes a protection racket similar to that of the mafia, in which contractors pay the Taliban ‘protection money’ not to attack them.

“In this grotesque carnival, the US military’s contractors are forced to pay suspected insurgents to protect American supply routes… It is an accepted fact of the military logistics operation in Afghanistan that the US government funds the very forces American troops are fighting. And it is a deadly irony, because these funds add up to a huge amount of money for the Taliban… US officials estimate that as much as ten percent of taxpayer money doled out to private contractors ends up in insurgents’ hands. By a quick accounting, this amounts to tens of millions of dollars.” US officials do this through contractors to hide the spending from taxpayers.

Skousen: IS THE STIMULUS WORKING?

IS THE STIMULUS WORKING?

Yes and No. Yes, in a temporary artificial way; but not in the long run. Direct injections of cash to buyers as in the Cash for Clunkers program worked, but only until the money ran out. Total cost of the program to taxpayers was $24,000 per car! The $180B tax rebates “worked” (in an inflationary way) last year, but can’t be sustained. House price declines leveled off in tandem with the government’s $8000 incentive program, but new home sales have dropped again, proving that temporary stimulus only works as long as there exists potential first-time buyers who can afford a loan. Once that group was exhausted, housing prices started down again. Congress is now looking to broadening the program for everyone to keep the stimulus going. It would be a greater boon to the economy to simply let house prices fall further, making them more affordable in the long term for everyone.

One of the problems created by past incentives is that there were plenty of ineligible applications for rebates, so now the IRS is being forced to audit manually all tax returns claiming the $8,000 federal housing new home credit–causing long delays.

The stimulus money is actually concentrating its effect on the speculative markets, fired up by the “carry trade” in dollars. A carry trade is created when one government offers below market interest rates for borrowing currency, just as Japan did during their decades-long recession. The money is borrowed and invested elsewhere (carried) and the investor pockets the interest rate difference. Now it’s the dollar dominating the carry trade instead of the Yen. Insiders can borrow at the Fed for almost zero interest and invest those dollars in other nations and in any number of hedges with a profit potential. That’s how the biggest US banks, in a declining economy, showed such massive profits less than a year after government bailouts.

Countries like Brazil are trying to take advantage of this new speculative influx of dollars in the carry trade. The government just slapped a tax on foreign investors of 2% on all foreign purchases of Brazilian fixed-income securities and stocks, effective immediately.

NOBEL PEACE PRIZE TO OBAMA HAS PEOPLE ASKING WHY!

President Obama has only been in office a few months and has done nothing so far to achieve peace in any conflict–not in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, or even at home. In fact he’s heading for more war in Iran and Afghanistan. His increased intervention in Pakistan is leading to greater instability.

So, why the prize? Honest observers have always known the prize was rigged, as typified by awards to globalist warmongers like Henry Kissinger and terrorists like Yasser Arafat. It is also politically skewed to the Left.

As the Washington Post noted, “At least the Nobel committee came clean this time. In awarding the peace prize to President Obama its chairman acknowledged that it did so because it agrees with and wants to promote his politics. ‘We are hoping this may contribute a little bit for what he is trying to do,’ Thorbjorn Jagland, the chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee said.”

Hopefully, the rest of the world will now rightly discount this award for what it is–blatant political manipulation.

CANCELLED EUROPEAN MISSILE DEFENSE SIGNALS NEW DISARMAMENT RACE TO WAR

This week Obama scrapped the Bush era proposal to build an anti-ballistic-missile system in Poland along with its corresponding search and tracking radar in the Czech Republic, which was supposedly designed to protect against a rogue missile attack from Iran. Getting Obama to dump the ABM system was a top priority for Russia, which knew that the Iran threat was an excuse to justify placing a system close to Russia capable of intercepting Russian missiles in their upward boost phase. This is where US interceptors would be most effective, having no warhead–instead of trying to knock down incoming Russian warheads, traveling at hyper speeds, over the target area. That’s a recipe for failure, especially if Russian claims about maneuvering warheads are true. This sudden backing down from directly confronting Russia appears to be part of a new and massive disarmament campaign as heralded by Obama in his speech to the UN–something the West always reverts to prior to sinking into a new world war. This week I’ll analyze why all such disarmament measures, without actual and verifiable Russian and Chinese reductions, will make the US more susceptible to a nuclear first strike.

The UK Guardian reported that, “Barack Obama has demanded the Pentagon conduct a radical review of US nuclear weapons doctrine to prepare the way for deep cuts in the country’s arsenal, the Guardian can reveal.” This is exactly the same thing President Bill Clinton ordered in 1996 that led to the secret issuance of PDD-60 completely changing the Reagan era nuclear doctrine designed to win a nuclear war with Russia. PDD-60 is still secret, but a few public statements issued in late 1997 by Clinton disarmament advisor Robert Bell and Craig Cerniello of Arms Control Today (who was part of the drafting and review process) [<[http://www.armscontrol.org/act/1997_11-12/pdd> http://www.armscontrol.org/act/1997_11-12/pdd ] indicated that the Presidential Decision Directive instructed US missile commanders “not to depend on launch-on-warning” (a tactic of launching all fixed silo missiles at the enemy before opponents first strike missiles landed and destroyed ours), –in essence, this PDD directed our country to absorb a first strike and retaliate later.

A frustrated Marine General is said to have exclaimed, “Retaliate with WHAT?” He knew, as did other commanders of our Trident nuclear submarines that Clinton had unilaterally agreed to keep half of all our SLBM submarines in port at any one time “to assure our Russian friends that we are not a threat.” When you telegraph a subtle message to the Russians that we are going to absorb a first strike, you induce them to make sure they hit us with everything necessary to make sure we cannot respond after a first strike.

PDD-60 also removes all alternate submarine launch codes so that our subs cannot fire without direct communications with the President. Those vital communications links will assuredly not survive a massive first strike. Even if they did, it is probable given what we know that the President would simply not issue the orders to launch until a first strike had landed. This is not deterrence. This is suicide, or a very carefully planned agenda to make the US vulnerable. Why would US leaders do this? It is designed to drive Americans into a New World Order that has military power over member nations–something no amount of public manipulation in past decades has been able to do. When our leaders come out of their bunkers they will declare the “Russians and Chinese deceived us” and now (that our military forces are mostly destroyed) we have no choice but to enter into a military alliance with the UN to save us.

DOCUMENTED COVER-UP OF 1976 SWINE FLU VACCINE DAMAGE–A MUST SEE VIDEO

The following link to a CBS documentary details how the US government exacerbated the minor 1976 outbreak of the Swine Flu to scare the public into taking a vaccine that caused neurological damage to thousands of victims and several deaths. The government used untrue claims to propagandize the public on the necessity getting the vaccine, and denied knowledge of known neurologically damaging side effects. It falsely assured everyone of its proven safety, which was a lie. You’ll never believe another government vaccine claim after seeing this report, which was aired only once before being buried in the archives.

BACKING EVIL WITH SCRIPTURE

Many Christians think it is wonderful anytime government officials mention God or quote from the Bible. I take strong exception, and not because I believe it is improper for government officials to appeal to God. I simply object to dropping the name of God or quoting scripture to cover for evil, and otherwise convince naive troops and Christians in general that an evil cause is just. TPM.com correspondent Steven Waldman recites what we know now about the misuse of God to add a religious sense of righteousness to the Bush wars.

“Former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld put Bible verses on the top of the ‘Worldwide Intelligence Update’ presented to President George W. Bush, Robert Draper reports in GQ. Flip through this gallery of these extraordinary memos. Each cover page features inspiring color photographs — soldiers praying, a young man preparing for battle, Saddam’s statue falling. With them are biblical quotes, some related to providing strength to the soldiers but some about the godliness of the cause. Next to a picture of an American tank is the quote: ‘Open the gates that the righteous nations may enter, The nation that keeps faith. Isaiah 26.2’ A photo of two soldiers in prayer is accompanied by the quote, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for us. Here I am Lord, send me! Isaiah 6:8’ A photo of an American tank at sunset has superimposed on it, ‘Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Ephesians 6:13’

Mr. Draper writes that these were the brainchild of Major General Glen Shaffer, a director for intelligence serving the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the secretary of defense.” In almost all the scriptures highlighted by Shaffer, the true context is a spiritual war for the soul, not a physical battle.

Why This Economic Crisis is Different From the 1930’s Depression

WHY THIS ECONOMIC CRISIS IS DIFFERENT FROM THE 1930’S DEPRESSION

I have pointed out before several differences of today’s recession and that of the Great Depression, including the fact that fiat money creation has been going on so strongly since the 1990s that recent times a speculative economy grew so large that it literally dwarfed the real economy. Almost all the banks and investment firms involved in the buying of sub-prime mortgages and derivatives were part of this giant speculative economy that was not directly investing in real business. Why? They knew the real rate of inflation was over 10% and weren’t satisfied with the slow growth of real business investments. The high rates of return on speculation and derivatives gave them a place to grow their money much faster. Had the public understood and demanded that these speculators NOT be bailed out, this speculative economy could have collapsed without actually destroying the real economy. I estimate there was only a 20% crossover of funds. Michael Pollaro wrote an excellent article on the technical and economic difference between then and now.

“1. Quite simply, today’s monetary and political framework is built for inflation, as much inflation as the government, the Federal Reserve and their banking partners want. And inflation, and a whole lot of it, is exactly what we are about to get.

Political scientist and expert in relocation for personal security, Joel Skousen will share his analysis of why the financial bailouts of the major banks are corrupt, and how the U.S. financial turmoil will be resolved by WWIII with China and Russia.

……………….

Recap

… Skousen said the collapse of the Soviet Union was a deception, and the heads of the Communist party went underground and became oligarchs. Russia plans a preemptive nuclear strike against America, he declared, by targeting such cities as Long Beach, San Diego, Seattle, Colorado Springs, Kansas City, Amarillo, Norfolk, Jacksonville, Kings Bay, GA, and Omaha, which all have military presences, as well as Washington D.C. …

A nuclear attack by North Korea, or uprising in former Soviet states could act as a trigger event, drawing the U.S. in, and setting the stage for the world war, Skousen noted.

NEW CURRENCY? NOT SO FAST

China even called for a replacement this week of the dollar by some yet-to-be-defined international currency. This is another key New World Order goal that globalists at the CFR and Trilateral Commission would relish. However, they can’t solve the dollar’s current woes by introducing a new currency now since everyone would require a fair exchange value for their existing currencies. This merely changes the name–not the actual quantity of inflation that threatens everyone’s value.

Only during a war, can you get away with forcing an unfair exchange upon current holders of dollars.

RUSSIAN REARMAMENT BEGINS IN EARNEST

Russia finally went public this week with what I have been warning about for years–the rearmament of Russian forces “on a grand scale” to oppose the growing encirclement of NATO forces. The news hit the European wire services a day before the US press mentioned it. As usual, the American side of these same services delayed this story so as to spin the message as “gamesmanship” on the part of Putin and Medvedev for “Russian public consumption.” Nothing could be further from the truth. The Russians are serious, and this announcement means that they can no longer conceal all of their rearmament efforts in underground factories and bunkers (Yamantau Mountain etc) and will begin to do so more openly-just like Hitler did in the 1930s. The Russian Bear is beginning to make his move.

Skousen: Glenn Beck Fails to Deliver on FEMA Camps

GLENN BECK FAILS TO DELIVER ON FEMA CAMPS

There are much more important and verifiable conspiracies in the world without having good conservatives diverted to such tripe. One important issue is the growing number of secret prison camps and holding facilities being built by our government. FEMA is the prime agency now directing this hidden agenda. I have previously reported in the WAB the significant travel and efforts I have made to substantiate prisons and camps that are valid. They do exist, though the major camps number less than a dozen, and they include a large camp clearly visible from I-15 just north of Nellis AFB in Las Vegas. Others are on decommissioned military installations. Interestingly enough, two years ago these large camps were removed from the official list of government prison facilities, even though the government still maintains them. They now join the growing list of FEMA camps of which there is no official government listing. Why the secrecy?

That said, it is important to note that there are many bogus camps being paraded as a threat. The lists and pictures circulating the internet of some 300 camps, claiming that nearly any fenced enclosure with barbed wire on top is a future concentration camp, is simply not credible. I’m convinced that agents of influence feed publicity-seeking radicals disinformation like this to discredit real threats.

TV and radio talk host Glenn Beck’s recent foray into the subject of FEMA camps is a study in how the establishment exercises subtle and not-so-subtle pressure to keep legitimate conspiracy evidence off the air. This week Beck announced on “Fox and Friends” that he was going to air his research about FEMA camps the next day, giving the distinct impression that he had found a credible threat of future tyranny. Here’s the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f03zZA___Ho

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f03zZA___Ho]

Beck declares he attempted to “debunk these FEMAS camps” because he is “tired of hearing about them,” but was unable to do so. “We now for several days have done research on them… I can’t debunk them.” This was something new for Beck to admit. As a perennial conspiracy basher on the issue of 9/11, Beck is the last one (other than government shill Rush Limbaugh) that I would have expected to expose the FEMA camps. To Beck’s credit, he was one of the few on Fox who would attack President Bush and unconstitutional government actions whenever he could. I think he is sincere, but a bit of a loose cannon in his rapid fire speaking style–which doesn’t lend toward careful analysis when he gets carried away.

[video] Kissinger: Obama’s ‘Task’ is to Help Create a ‘New World Order’ — Chaos is an ‘Opportunity’

“Henry Kissinger, who former National Security Advisor James Jones said gives daily marching orders to the National Security Council, is still pushing the concept of crises being the vehicle to furthering the New World Order. Henry Kissinger responds to a question in this video by stating that the main task of Barack Obama will be to create a New World Order, suggesting that the chaos unfolding around the world is an opportunity rather than a crisis.”

From: Raw Story

President Nixon’s Secretary of State, the aging Henry Kissinger, recently told CNBC that he believes the current world economic crisis is a “great opportunity” for President-elect Obama to help create a “new world order.”

“What do you think the most important thing is for Barack Obama?” Kissinger was asked. “… If you had to say, this is going to be the country, or the conflict, or the place that will define the Obama administration, what would it be?”

Kissinger replied: “The President-elect is coming into office at a moment when there are upheavals in many part of the world simultaneously. You have India-Pakistan. You have, ah, a jihadist movement.”

“But,” continued Kissinger, “he can give new imputus to American foreign policy, partly because the ascension [reception – ed.] of him is so extraordinary and admirable.

“I think that his task will be to develop an overall strategy for America in this period, when really a “New World Order” can be created. It’s a great opportunity. It isn’t such a crisis.”

In response to a parting question, Kissinger added that Obama’s cabinet is an “extraordinarily able group of people.” (Link)

THE OBAMA DREAM TEAM A FUTURE NIGHTMARE

President-elect Obama has announced about half his new cabinet–all the important ones and enough to be worthy of comment. Here’s the list so far and why I think these were all chosen by the same globalists that run the Bush administration.

Secretary of State: Hillary Clinton

Secretary of Defense: Robert Gates

Secretary of Treasury: Timothy Gaithner

Secretary of Commerce: Gov. Bill Richardson

Secretary of Health and Human Services: Former Senator Tom Daschle

Attorney General: Eric Holder

National Security Advisor: Gen. James Jones

Chief of Staff: Rahm Emanuel

These picks are certainly indicative of Washington’s revolving door philosophy. But it’s even more complex in that virtually everyone who serves in high government positions must toe the line of the globalist controllers who call the shots. Most are members of the Council on Foreign Relations or Trilateral Commission. If they aren’t, they are usually avoiding the public exposure but agree with their globalist principles. Even those that are not knowing conspirators must at least show their willingness to be abject yesmen to those higher in power.

THE HANDLERS

Even the president must acquiesce to those who call the shots; though they never try and directly challenge the president unless he gets too far out of hand. Then subtle and not-so-subtle threats are applied, as in the assassination attempt on Ronald Reagan. In every presidency there is one primary advisor designated as the president’s “handler” whose job is to make sure the president complies with various “suggestions” given him in daily briefings and high level cabinet meetings. Most often it is the National Security Advisor. For the first time ever, during the George W. Bush years it was the Vice President, Dick Cheney. Here is my best estimate of past presidential handlers, starting with the Wilson administration. There are two exceptions who did not appear to be controlled.

Woodrow Wilson: Edwin Mandel House (globalist who pushed Wilson into WWI and support for the League of Nations)

MY ELECTION ADVICE

It is time for Americans to stop voting for the “lesser of two evils,” and make a firm commitment always to vote only for principled candidates who will defend our liberty without compromise. If you are a conservative and think that we will suffer more damage under Obama than McCain, think again. Both parties are going to foist a national health insurance plan on the nation. Both will continue intervening around the world. Neither will fight against the evils of fiat money and insider trading and speculation that has brought our nation to economic destruction. Both will favor more bailouts of all varieties that will create a complete dependency upon government controls. At least with a Democrat in office the conservatives will fight against them. With a Republican in office, unthinking conservatives accept what they are told and believe that it is somehow a virtue.

I, along with Ron Paul, am endorsing Chuck Baldwin of the Constitution Party for President. Baldwin is principled, articulate, and capable of rising to be the next great leader of the conservative movement in America. He’s a great religious leader but will not compromise with the PTB in order to gain political favors for Christianity as do the other mainline evangelical leaders. He is also very sensitive to the fact that there are others in this nation with different religious beliefs. Baldwin allows for religious diversity and does not believe in limiting our constitutional freedoms on one religion only. Voting for a third party is not a waste of your vote. It sends a strong message to the establishment that we are not going to be fooled or persuaded any longer into voting for evil in the illusory fear of “wasting our vote.”

It is hard to stop opportunists from running for office when courts allow them to legislate benefits for others. That’s why term limits don’t work for us. It’s far easier for socialists to replaced their kind of representative than for us to find principled constitutionalists to run in a system that doesn’t have limits on lawmaking power.

Ultimately, our only long-term solution is to rebuild a network of influential conservatives and libertarians who can recognize the difference between good and bad laws (new founding fathers, if you will) so that we can build a movement to once again bind Congress and state legislatures down with the chains of a tighter set of laws–with proper limits on lawmaking powers and the use of majority rule. My Law and Government section on my personal website http://www.joelskousen.com/Philosophy/philosophy.html is a first start in this area.

I’ve tried to take the principles of the constitution and restructure them in tight legal language so our fundamental rights cannot be legislated or interpreted away. Another effort focusing on eliminating bad law directly has been started by subscriber David Shields. I encourage you to go to his website www.fixbadlaws.com and click on the “Featured Article” link; read it and then sign on to help disseminate this to others. It’s a good beginning. If there are any other legal minds out there willing to help me begin the process of preparing a new legal structure for the Ideal State, let me know by return email.

MORE EVIDENCE CHENEY IS RUNNING THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION

I found some very interesting hints in Barton Gellman’s extensive research on Vice President Dick Cheney that confirms what I have been saying for years–Cheney controls the Bush administration with his huge staff that has fingers in every part of the administration (my conclusion, not Gellman’s). Gellman’s book is called “Angler” and here is an excerpt from a recent interview.

WASHINGTON POST: “There are a few lines in the book saying national security staff on the White House, and tell me if I’m correct here, were having their email bcc’d to the vice president’s staff.

GELLMAN: “That is correct. It was not just emails either. It was for certain sensitive documents. They travel by hand on paper and not electronically. If somebody on the national security council staff wrote a memo to say Condi Rice when she was the national security advisor, the procedure was, it would be sent to her, she had an executive secretary and an administrative assistant and it would also go to the deputy national security advisor. What you didn’t know was that it was going to be copied automatically to Cheney’s office. Same for emails, they were blind copied. …

WP: “You explained that much of the way Cheney exerted his influence– rather than, again this sort of caricature, that Bush was a marionette—-you suggest, per the title of your book, that Cheney would work the angles. …

GELLMAN: “Cheney acted, I think, probably always or nearly always in support of what he believed the president’s objectives were… [but] it is certainly not true that Bush authorized and approved in advance everything Cheney did.” It was Cheney who was setting the objectives, not Bush. Bush knew from the time he was selected to run for president that he would be controlled by the group who had selected him.

Skousen: The Real Reason for the Bailout

World Affairs Brief, September 26, 2008. Commentary and Insights on a Troubled World.

THE REAL REASON FOR THE BAILOUT

The real agenda is to use this and other future financial crises to demolish what constitutional restrictions remain against government intervention and control of financial markets. A tremendous power shift is inherent in this bailout, so the $700 billion is not nearly as dangerous as the precedent that is being set for future intervention in the markets and the transfer of public funds to financial insiders. This is a devious means to raid the public purse as the nation sinks into financial ruin.

One of the most interesting exchanges to emerge in this debate between Congress and Treasury Secretary Paulson and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke was the questioning of Congressman Ron Paul (R-tx), the sole member of the House banking committee willing to challenge the legality of this bailout and demand to know who is going to pay for it.

After complaining to Bernanke about setting a high fixed price for the toxic debt the Fed will buy back from banks and other insider financial institutions (way too generous, in his opinion) Paul demanded of Bernanke where he thinks he has the authority to bailout these institutions with taxpayer money. Bernanke responded that he gets all the authority he needs from the Federal Reserve Act of 1916. “When you authorized the Federal Reserve, you gave us the power.” Paul was not given the opportunity to rebut. If he had, he no doubt would have said something like, “I have read the act, Mr. Bernanke, and it gives you no such authority. And, even if it did, as you claim, then why are you and Mr. Paulson coming to Congress to authorize this bailout–if you already have the authority?”

I would also have demanded to know, “and why have you and others inserted the demand that “Decisions by the Secretary pursuant to the authority of this Act are non-reviewable and committed to agency discretion, and may not be reviewed by any court of law or any administrative agency.” If you are so sure of your authority, why are you afraid of a court review?

It’s because there is no constitutional authority for these bailouts and Paulson and Bernanke know it. The PTB used the same language restricting court review to make sure the courts did not have any say in the Telecom immunity and wiretapping bill, or the Military Commissions act. Of course, the courts don’t have to abide by this language. Any bill passed by Congress is invalid if it is in violation of the Constitution. What I fear, however, is that this language gives the courts an out to evade declaring it unconstitutional.

As for the cost, only Ron Paul demanded to know how this was going to be paid for. “We certainly aren’t going to tax the American people for this–no one is proposing that.” That only leaves deficit spending–and Paul had plenty to say about that and the whole issue of fiat money that got us into this debacle in the first place.

World Affairs Brief, September 12, 2008. Commentary and Insights on a Troubled World.

RON PAUL CONDEMNS THE TWO PARTY SYSTEM:

Ron Paul held his much anticipated news conference Wednesday at the National Press Club. He called the presidential elections a charade and said voters should reject the pressure to vote for the “lesser of two evils.” Realistically, however, it is the structure of our electoral system which requires a full majority in any primary or election that guarantees a two party system. Until that is changed (there are a variety of ways to do this, such as allowing minority of voters nationwide to pool their votes for an “at large” candidate for Congress) the system will always discriminate against third parties–unless dissatisfaction gets so strong that a third party can fully oust one of the majors.

Paul correctly says that 60 percent of Americans are unhappy with their choices in the race, and he urged listeners to vote for one of the third party candidates and vote against the “establishment candidates.” He appeared at his news conference with only three of the third-party candidates: independent Ralph Nader; former Georgia Democratic Rep. Cynthia McKinney, the Green Party candidate; and Chuck Baldwin, the Constitution Party candidate. Incredibly and stupidly, Bob Barr, the Libertarian candidate, decided to snub the event and hold his own press conference. I’ve never trusted Barr, being former CIA, and having been guilty of some major moral transgression.

While I applaud Ron for throwing his support behind the Third Party movement, I believe it would have been much more effective for him to endorse one Third Party candidates directly. Before Paul’s convention and statement supporting third parties, almost all Paul supporters would have split their votes mostly among the Libertarian and Constitution Party. Paul’s announcement failed to change any of that or give any one of the parties the attention getting boost necessary to grab the headlines.

The McCain campaign worries that Paul could have drawn votes away from him in November, but Paul’s chances of acting as a spoiler are now markedly diminished. It is telling that Ron Paul was pressured by former Senator Phil Gramm on behalf of the McCain campaign to endorse McCain. That takes real audacity given how the GOP treated Ron Paul delegates,. Paul correctly told Gramm he would never endorse John McCain, on principle. How rare it is to find a man of principle in politics like Ron Paul.

Skousen: The Real Sarah Palin Emerges — A Bit Too Ambitious To Be Principled

THE REAL SARAH PALIN EMERGES: A BIT TOO AMBITIOUS TO BE PRINCIPLED

Last week I compared Sarah Palin to a sincere but naive Christian in a den of Lions. This week I’ve revised my assessment to a more negative and realistic stance: Palin has the same kind of raw ambition that plagues Mitt Romney–wanting to get elected and advance so badly that they are willing to compromise on a wide range of principles–including some honesty. According to the Anchorage Daily News some of the things McCain’s VP candidate told the GOP convention were not quite true:

On Alaska Oil Pipeline: “Palin implies that construction has begun on a major natural gas pipeline from the top of Alaska into Canada. That is not correct. In fact, no building has begun and actual construction is years away, if it ever happens. This summer the Alaska Legislature, at Palin’s request, passed a bill under which the state will issue a “license” to a Canadian energy company, TransCanada Corp., and pay it up to $500 million as an incentive to someday build this enormous project, which Alaska politicians have long sought with little success. The license is not a construction contract, and federal energy regulators have not yet approved the project. Palin also puts the price tag for the project at $40 billion, an exaggeration. This is roughly $10 billion more than most cost estimates industry players and consultants have made to date.”

On wasteful legislative earmarks and her opposition to Sen. Steven’s Bridge to Nowhere: “As mayor of Wasilla, Palin hired a lobbyist and traveled to Washington annually to support earmarks for the town totaling $27 million. In her two years as governor, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in special federal spending, by far the largest per-capita request in the nation, although she has cut, by more than half, the amount the state sought from Washington this year. While Palin notes she rejected plans to build a $398 million bridge from Ketchikan to Gravina Island, that opposition came only after the plan was ridiculed nationally as a ‘bridge to nowhere.'”

It has also been brought to my attention that Gov. Palin is part of a coalition of governors supporting Canamex, the NAFTA
superhighway for the North Coast. She also supported the REAL ID act for Alaska-a very serious mistake for state rights and citizen privacy.

Perhaps the most candid and balanced criticism of Sarah Palin came from Wasilla resident Anne Kilkenny, as published by the Online Journal. Here are some excerpts I found enlightening. They seem to paint a picture of a women that is pretty aggressive, who shifts positions for political advantage, and borders upon being a ruthless player who holds no loyalty to anyone who has helped her but may differ with her in even small ways. She does not seem to be highly principled except on a view high profile issues like abortion and gun rights. This helps explain why she, as an avowed Christian evangelical, would join a den of globalists like the McCain campaign.

“She is enormously popular; It is astonishing and almost scary how well she can keep a secret. She kept her most recent pregnancy a secret from her children and parents for seven months. She is ‘pro-life.’ She recently gave birth to a Down’s syndrome baby. There is no cover-up involved, here; Trig is her baby.

“She is energetic and hardworking. She regularly worked out at the gym. She is savvy. She doesn’t take positions; she just ‘puts things out there’ and if they prove to be popular, then she takes credit. Her experience is as mayor of a city with a population of about 5,000 (at the time), and less than 2 years as governor of a state with about 670,000 residents. During her mayoral administration most of the actual work of running this small city was turned over to an administrator. She had been pushed to hire this administrator by party power-brokers after she had gotten herself into some trouble over precipitous firings which had given rise to a recall campaign.”

She is not a fiscal conservative. “Sarah campaigned in Wasilla as a ‘fiscal conservative.’ During her 6 years as Mayor, she increased general government expenditures by over 33%. During those same 6 years the amount of taxes collected by the City increased by 38%. This was during a period of low inflation (1996-2002). She reduced progressive property taxes and increased a regressive sales tax which taxed even food. The tax cuts that she promoted benefitted large corporate property owners way more than they benefitted residents. The huge increases in tax revenues during her mayoral administration weren’t enough to fund everything on her wish list though borrowed money was needed, too. She inherited a city with zero debt, but left it with indebtedness of over $22 million.

SARAH PALIN: NAIVE CHRISTIAN IN THE LION’S DEN

The selection of Alaska governor Sarah Palin by the McCain team was a stunning move that caught all the professional pundits by surprise. In one single move, the Republican operatives stole the media spotlight away from Barack Obama and toppled conservative resistance to McCain’s liberal/maverick record. Even James Dobson of Focus on the Family, who swore he would never support McCain, succumbed and decided he could now do so. None of this drama could have been accomplished without a correct analysis and understanding of Palin’s particular weaknesses. This week I’ll explain what unprincipled Republican king-makers saw in her that could simultaneously boost McCain phony conservative credentials and yet never threaten the hidden globalist agenda that drives the insiders who control the Republican Party at the national level.

THE NEW COLD WAR: RUSSIA TESTING THE LIMITS AND FINDING NO RESISTANCE

The US under the globalist Bush regime has been all too eager to threaten and invade nations that can’t hit back. Now, faced with a defiant Russia occupying Georgia, the US is all talk and no action. After years of dealing with the Soviets in the cold war, the West should have learned one core lesson: the Russians only respect force–not words, not treaties, not agreements, only power. It was the same with Hitler–the West aided and abetted his aggression by monetary investments in his armaments industry and purposely keeping their own military forces weak so they had every excuse not to confront Hitler militarily when they could. Only when Hitler was too strong to stop, did the West declare war, with all its disastrous results (for innocent parties on both sides). It is happening all over again, and for the same globalist purposes–to force the world into new and more restrictive globalist legal structures, antithetical to liberty and national sovereignty. This week, I’ll explain more in detail how the current crisis will eventually lead to a larger war.

PROVOCATION AND AGGRESSION IN GEORGIA–SORTING IT OUT

Every war has its superficial cause that is fed to the public but underlying this is usually a myriad of complex ulterior motives and agendas that are the real cause. This week I’ll help you sort out what has been going on historically in Georgia and what the major powers are up to in the current conflict. There are a variety of rash predictions flooding the internet about this conflict being a trigger for World War III. It is not, but it is part of a long term strategy by the West to slowly expose the public to Russian aggressive intentions–ironically, after spending decades covering for Russia and playing as if she is our ally. This will eventually lead to an all-out war between Russia/China and the West, but it is still a few years away since the enemy’s various forces are not ready yet. The West provoked this Russian attack and temporary occupation of Georgia, but Russia wasn’t innocent either. Putin had put in position large land, air, and naval forces surrounding Georgia just waiting for an excuse to invade. Now that they are in, they’re going to be slow getting out.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

Georgia has always been a thorn in the southern side of Russia ever since the Russian empire and especially during the years of Soviet oppression. Thanks to my Balkan correspondent, Ivan Simic, for providing me with some of this essential background material, and also to the historical perspective of A. Heneen on iReport.com.
